A New Beginning

John woke up with his head still slightly aching. But John couldn't give it his slightest attention, because he was most concerned with a new set of memories in his head.

According to the memories, he was John Baker, the useless son of Phil Baker, a successful businessman and a respected man. He was 22 years old and a college graduate in Business Administration only thanks to his father. He was a conoisseur of alcoholic beverages, to put it mildly.

There was not much in the memories about his mother who died when he was 3 years old. He had a sister, Amanda Baker, 6 years older than him and a benchmark of success. She was a successful entrepreneur with a flourishing business of her own and a reason for many insults he suffered, atleast according to his memories.

The last memory he had was of his father trying to convince him to learn how to run the company. He had reluctantly agreed but on the way to the Baker organization's building, their car had suffered an accident in which his father had apparently died after two days.

John couldn't make sense of what was happening. He was John, alright, but John Sharpe, not John Baker. And his father was a regular dude instead of a business magnate. But even after thinking all this he still felt they were his memories rather than someone else's.

So to confirm it he went to the bathroom to check how he looked. These memories felt too real for it to be a bad dream.

"WHAT THE HELL?" screamed John as he saw his reflection in the mirror. He had short blonde hair. He had a good looking face with sharp features and grey eyes that were too dull. But beside his face, it wasn't so good. He was too thin and his limbs too skinny to even...

Before he could think of what was happening, he heard the door of the ward open.

He went outside the bathroom to see who it was.

It was his sister alongside Sean, his father, no, Phil Baker's lawyer.

'What is happening to me? Why am I thinking of that woman as my sister and Phil Baker as my father?' He was thinking that when he suddenly remembered something.

"Hey Sean, what is the date?" He asked.

"It's 6 Nov. Why are you asking?" Sean replied with a surprise.

John was too excited by what was happening to register Sean's question, instead, he asked another question, "What year?"

"It's 2006, are you alright, John?", came a sweet voice filled with anxiety. His sister asked with apparent concern in her voice. John finally met her black eyes which suited on her beautiful face. She had blonde hair similar to his own and in a sharp suit, she looked the successful businesswoman she was.

"Just... give me a minute." John said to his sister as he sat down on the bed. The minutes excruciatingly passed as he tried to make sense of the situation.

'As if I could make sense of whatever this is', thought John, exasperated.

A hand on his shoulder brought him out of his musing, it was his sister, " Are you okay?"

"Yeah" he said, 'Whatever it is, I can do worse than being a millionaire.'
