Chapter 46- A special reward

"Now, mind telling me what the hell happened out there?"

Abraham's tone was deep and threatening as his gaze bore a hole into Lucious.

His wild aura pressed down on Lucious causing him to struggle and remain standing.

Yet despite this, Liara remained unaffected.

"Lucious?!"

"Answer me, boy!"

Bam

Abraham stood up and slammed his hand against his desk and leaned towards Lucious who was currently kneeling.

"I... I freed a v-vampire...t-then" Lucious gasped for breath as he felt the enormous pressure bear down on him.

"Lucious..."

Liara watched in shock and horror before standing in front of him with her arms spread out in an attempt to protect him.

She knew she couldn't do anything to stop Abraham, but she wasn't going to sit idly by.

Beads of sweat dripped down his face as a fearful look spread across his face. He didn't even realise his own teeth chattering together or his loud, heavy and uneven breathing.

Lucious couldn't even bring himself to look up anymore and simply hung his head whilst on his knees, as though he were a criminal waiting to be executed.

But just when he thought he was going to die, the pressure dropped.

"Pfft. Hahahaha!" A loud, boisterous laugh resounded throughout the room, leaving Lucious and Liara befuddled.

Abraham sat back down while letting out a deep laugh as he held his stomach.

Huh? What the hell is going on? Both Liara and Lucious had the same question while watching him, and after a minute of laughing, Abraham finally stopped.

Wiping the tears away, he looked at Lucious with a large grin and smiled.

"Im sorry, I just couldn't resist." He let out small giggles as the look of confusion then realisation turned to anger on both their faces.

He used his aura to nearly crush me to death then laughs and calls it a joke?! This man is insane, a damn lunatic.

Lucious glared at him before sighing then stood back up with Liara's help, while wiping away the sweat that had formed.

Liara led Lucious to a chair and helped him sit down in one of the chairs, but didn't leave his side until he told her to sit down.

Once everyone had calmed down, Abraham sighed with a satisfied grin before turning back to his guests.

"I already got a full report from Adrianna and the others so I'll skip the small stuff. Here." Abraham withdrew a storage ring and placed it on the table.

Three novice ice spellbooks, one hundred gold and thirty aura strengthening potions. That doesn't seem like a lot... then again, I barely did anything.

After reviewing the contents of the ring, Lucious gratefully accepted and thanked him.

[Ding]

[Host has completed a hidden quest]

[Make a significant change to the future]

[Rewards: 3 fate tokens, +30 stat points, +5 skill points]

[Skill Points: 60 > 65]

[Stat Points: 10 > 40]

[Fate tokens: 2 > 5]

Eh? Make a significant change to the future? I know capturing the entire fortress and dealing with the twilight general changes the initial story from the novel, but surely its not that big of a change.

The protagonist has some run-ins with him and he then becomes primary antagonist for the second volume. But the war will still occur with or without him. What exactly did I change.

As Lucious became lost in thought, Liara lightly shook him as Abraham stared.

He hadn't even given Lucious the reward yet, the storage ring was merely a little bonus to show his appreciation for taking the quest.

"As I was saying, the reward for completing this special quest is access to the guild's teleportation system." This made Lucious's eyes pop out in shock.

The guild's teleportation system is an intricate set of runes designed to teleport A rank adventurers and above to other cities within Hozia, Nihlat and Zenak.

So long as there was a guild within the city, adventurers could teleport between cities, countries and even continents.

However, the drawback was that each teleportation costs a large amount of resources and that cost would increase the further you go.

Trying to get from his current location to the capital of the Nihlat Dynasty with Liara would cost enough to empty the entire treasury of every city along the way.

For this reason, the guild normally only permit A ranked adventurers and above as they can afford to travel between cities with just one or two quests.

"I'm guessing you know what the teleportation system is, so I won't explain it and instead give you this."

Abraham passed two golden medallions no bigger than a coaster.

"Now that the rewards have been given, let's discuss what to do with the fortress.

Obviously we can't keep it standing if it's to remain unoccupied and the guild has no official claim to it."

Lucious expected this to happen. As this was a special quest, the cities government clearly had no idea the fortress's existence nor did Abraham tell them.

Since the guild couldn't lay a claim to it without alerting the government, the best course of action would be for Lucious to purchase the land its on before the government find out.

At least that way, Lucious could claim he arranged its construction.

With that, he could allow the guild to set up in an unused building somewhere.

"The guild is an independent organisation from the various countries and thus no country would allow a potential threat to own a fortress in their back yard."

Abraham explained, the teleportation system was only permitted due to past events.

But an entire fortress with the capacity to overrun the city would never be permitted.

"Actually, I was thinking on gifting it to my sister Cassandra. It would further improve her influence within the Empires military and score some favour. Plus, I can put in a good word for you."

Lucious explained. Though it would mean the guild wouldn't profit from it directly as Abraham had hoped, earning favour with an influential figure from the ducal household was enough to comp the loss.

Abraham agreed, though he was a little disappointed, it was more than he would have gotten even if the fortress hadn't been captured.

"I guess that concludes everything here. Both of you can clear off."

Abraham shooed them away like flies before turning his attention to a stack of papers on his desk.
