A peculiar Family

In a humble residence outside the central city lives a peculiar family. The neighbors were constantly listening to fantastic stories that even the great Tolkien would be blown away by: stories about elfs, dragons, demons, warriors, and mages.

The family was not a bad one; it was actually the opposite; all the neighbors were at peace with one another.

The members of the family were as follows: the mother Isabel Paxton, the father Lucas Paxton, the older brother Robert Paxton, the middle sister Regina Paxton, and the youngest child named Alan Paxton.

Today, like every afternoon, Isabel was telling one of the many stories to her youngest son.

Fire and blood were the tactics used by the Demon King Lakarn to conquer the whole continent. His early strike against the different races across the continent was swift and deadly; many kindoms, empires, and clans that proclaimed themselves as the most powerful ones fell in one whole swoop.

"He is a villain, right?" (Alan) asked, trying to understand his mother's tale.

"That's right, honey.(Isabel) She calmly answered.

"Then what happened?" (Alan) Exited by the tale, he pressures his mother to continue.

Only a few people survived the initial attack, and without anyone to stop him, he started his conquest. Many kingdoms, empires, and famous clans were destroyed easily. In their desperation, something iconic happend something that, if someone suggests it before, they will call you crazy.

All the races decided to ally themselves under one banner: their mission: to defeat the Demon King Lakarn and bring peace to the continent.

"Oh, like The Lord of the..." (Alan) He quickly commented.

"Right!" (Isabel) She quickly interrupted him.

The war against the demons lasted years; for the long-lived races, it was nothing, but for the rest of them, it was a living hell.

The middle daughter, Regina, came down from the second floor, going directly into the kitchen, but when she heard her mother's tale and saw her little brother listening carefully in the living room, she couldn't hold back...

"Dad! Mom is telling her stories to Alan again!" (Regina) She accused her mother to her father.

"Regina, remember, we are going to eat at 3 o'clock!" (Lucas) Like nothing happened, he called his daughter.

"Agh, why don't I live in a normal family!"(Regina)

Exasperated by the answer her father gave her, she opened the fridge, took a bottle of water, and then...

She went back to the second floor, and after a couple of seconds,.

*Bam*

...the door of her room closed.

Her mother Isabel, like nothing happen, continued with her tale.

For many years, they fought each other. Many people lost their lives, but their sacrifice wasn't in vain. The demons also lost ground and soldiers each year.

After 5 years, they made the demons retreat into their land of origin, but the alliance didn't stop there. They made a hard decision: eliminate all the demons in order to prevent another war of this scale.

"Hi Dad, Hi Mom, I'm home!" (Robert)

The oldest son, Robert, coming from another day of work, screamed loudly as soon as he entered the house.

"Oh, hi son, your mother is in the living room with Alan(Lucas) from the kitchen; his father Lucas was the first to answer.

"Ugh, mom's tales, huh?" (Robert) Knowing what his mother was doing, he couldn't resist commenting.

"That's right!" (Lucas) The relaxed voice of his father came from the kitchen.

As the alliance had the demons in their corner, they mysteriously disappeared. Not even the best [Elf's Mages] could find them; because of that, the war was declared over.

Over time, the races that survived began to rebuild and thrive, and along with them was ours, the [Human Race].

Taking advantage of the prosperity and peace, we used our charisma to make deals with other races, something that was impossible before the war due to the races considering the [human race] as an inferior race.

"Why? They didn't like us?" (Alan) He commented a little sad about it.

"Well, honey, you need to understand that with those races, power was the only thing that they took seriously." (Isabel) She quickly explained to her son why there was discrimination.

"Ehhh.." (Alan) He expresses his amazement, if he understood what his mother was talking about, it wasn't clearly seen.

The [human race] began to settle in many parts of the continent, and out of all the races, it was the one with the most constant growth and prosperity.

The amazing technology development and social structure were scrutinized by the other races; for some of them, they found them convenient, but for others, these changes made them distance themselves from us.

"Why's that?" (Alan)

Seeing the opportunity to put some real knowledge in her mother's tale, Robert was the one to answer his little brother's question.

"Well, little brother, you see, there's some capitalist people that will see the potential and gains of that technology, but that will interfere with their own gains on the market, so..." (Robert)

As he was trying to answer the question, he saw a look of confusion on his little brother's face.

"Eh?"(Alan)

*Sigh*

Seeing that face, Robert stopped, and then he just said.

"You will know when you grow up and get a job." (Robert) He turned around and went to the second floor, a couple of seconds later...

*Bam*

...the door of his room closed.

Seeing that the [human race] was spreading everywhere really fast, instead of coming into conflict with us, the mythical races chose, for some unknown reason, to abandon this plane of existence and instead live somewhere else.

The first races that took that decision were the [Fae Race], followed by the [Elf Race], after some time the [Humanoids Race] did the same, and lastly, due to their high sense of pride, the [Beastren Race] was the last to leave.

Because of this decision, the flow of energy that those habitats provided to the whole plane started to decline little by little.

"Energy? What energy!?" (Alan) He asked, confused.

"Remember, honey, we talked about it last week.."(Isabel) calmly answered.

After thinking for a couple of minutes, Alan answered.

"Ah!...is [Mana] isn't?" (Alan)

Isabel, with a satisfied smile on her face, answered.

"Correct, honey"(Isabel)

Over the years, the quantity of mana in the environment began to dry quickly. Watching this crisis, many powerful human [Mage's Families] didn't have other option but to move to those places and use their resources to preserve them for the sake of future generations, but as Mana was drying out from the plane, the [Mages] that could [Awake] naturally were declining with each year really fast, and to make matters worse, the dependency towards the [Mages Families] became too overbearing.

The families, stressed by the situation and without a possible solution, made a difficult decision: distance themselves from the [Non-Mages], and like the mythical races, hide themselves in other planes of existence.

They didn't stop there; in order to secure their peace, all the families decided to erase all the memories of the [Non-Awaken] about the existence of the mythical races, the horrible war, the [Mages], and the knowledge of [Magic].

Instead, they replaced those memories with tales about gods, humans, heroes, legends, and mythos.

"Eh?, but mom, if they erase those memories, how do you know that?" (Alan) He questions his mom with a face full of confusion.

"Good question, honey. Well,  you see, that's because your great-grandmother is a witch." (Isabel) She whispered into her son's little ears as if she were telling him a precious secret.

"Ohhh..."(Alan) This information made little Alan very excited.

Centuries passed, and the human race, without mana or knowledge of magic, became focused on technology to survive, leaving us to the present day.

Finally, Isabel finished her tale on time to...

"Everyone, food is ready. Come to eat!" (Lucas)

"Coming!"( Isabel, Alan, Robert, and Regina) The whole family responded to the call for food.
