/"I know./" Daddy gave a serious nod. /"But that's why he's got you, silly bean. I know you're going to be Daddy's super big boy and keep Freddy from crying while I wash this plate super quick. Do you want to count again and see if I beat my time from earlier?/"

I bit my lip. I didn't see how his time could be any worse than it was earlier. Not wanting to hurt his feelings, I nodded.

I gathered all my stuffies in my arms and waited on the sofa with my fluffy red blanket like Daddy said, hugging them so, so close and squeezing my eyes shut as I counted, but only cuz they were scared.
