The Era of Technological Warfare

After applying for the Mecha Trainee Try-Outs, the A.I. built into the training Mecha rejected Fan Xun as a host, which is common. He's always wanted to be in the United Federation States to serve as either a Worker Mecha or as a Battle Mecha. But those dreams were crushed the day the A.I. rejected him. When Fan's graduation day comes, he gets shot and is injected with a syringe. This new presence in his body then asks him what he would like as a Base Power. He wants to be able to control A.I. 's so that they can't ever reject him.

Graduating Day

He awoke with his eyes looking at the ceiling. His ceiling fan continually spinning when he activated it with his mobile home pad last night. He almost wanted to stare at the fan all day, to be perpetually in a trance. But he knew today had other plans in mind. He turns only his head to the right to look at his 26-hour clock. It reads, '8:45 a.m.'. "No way…" he says not in shock but in a bit of a frustrated tone.

It's not his first time being late to highschool but it'll be his last. Today's graduation day. He's graduating as a junior. But, despite his feat, it's still not enough for his future dream. He's always dreamt to be a Mecha pilot. He wanted to move up the ranks quickly. Tier 1 all the way to Tier Godlike. But if he couldn't keep rising through the ranks and tiers, he would still be okay with being a Tier 1 Mecha. Because despite being the heavy lifters of the United Federation States, he would still feel like he was helping.

He finally got up out of bed with nothing on but some shorts. He walked over to his mirror that was leaning against a wall. He took a look at his body. Brown hair, brown eyes, slim with a bit of muscle and was a little agile. When he entered Tory Maya High School, he tried super hard in physical activities to train his body when he would eventually sign up for the Mecha Trainee Try-Outs test that would occur every year. He didn't take it his first year because his physical training had only begun. Although, his second year in, he took it. The line to take the test is long every year with all the recruits thinking they'll ace the test and immediately get signed up as a Mecha Recruit.

That, however, was wrong for most of the recruits. There are ways to fail the try-out. Friendly fire, weak mentality, failure to follow orders (respectively), and the most common of all, Mecha system rejection. He, himself, believed like the rest of them, that he would also be a Mecha Recruit. Unfortunately, that year, he was added to the list of participants who fell under Mecha system rejection. He doesn't know the exact definition, but his guess is that all Mecha suits and workers have system A.I. 's that seek out suitable hosts to control and fight with the Mecha suit.

He flexed his arms and legs to inspect his remaining muscle strength. He definitely doesn't appear to be the buff and tough guy but you could tell he's worked out before. He moves into his closet and picks out a black tuxedo and black threaded pants with black polished formal shoes. He had to look presentable on his graduation day, didn't he? After he puts on his socks and polished shoes, he goes over to his night stand where the clock then says, '9:00 a.m.'. He grabs his plastic school I.D. that has his name synthetically printed on it. Fan Xun IV.

In ancient Chinese, Fan stands for lethal and Xun stands for fast.
Fan places the I.D. into his pocket. He grabs a bottled water from his cooled food storage. He takes a few swigs and closes the cap. He brings the bottled water with him as he opens his studio front door and closes it behind him. As he walks away, the door automatically locks as its owner leaves for the day.

After Fan Xun had gotten rejected as a trainee, he suddenly rewired himself to study and complete all his Sophomore assignments he could still make up for. And now, into his Junior year of highschool, he's graduating with a small number of people who are juniors and a large number of people who are Seniors.

Sadly, unlike most of the graduating students this year, Fan doesn't have any family members congratulating him for his hard work. He has faraway parents who would wish him luck in the grownup world while they fight the Eastern World Dictators.

Fan arrives at the closed gates of Tory Maya High School. It's silent as ever outside. He swings open the gate only enough to get his own body through. "Wait!" says a feminine call from behind. Fan swings his head back and sees a young woman running toward him at full speed. He wants to say it's more of a jog but for her she's running as fast as she can while wearing her school issued shoes. He takes the gate and fully swings it open for her to make it through without her stopping. She passes him by and continues running up the steps that lead her to the school entrance.

While he still has a chance, he gets a look at her. Green hair, soft face, blue eyes. He hasn't seen her here before. Transfer maybe? Maybe not, transfers are more likely to come to school on time then not. She's not a teacher, she's too young and pitiful. Who is she? Well, whatever her case is, Fan thinks he'll be seeing her again. She'll have to thank him for his act of kindness. He closes the gate behind him and starts to walk up the stairs when he suddenly hears bangs inside the school!

Fan runs to a pillar that stands in front of the mostly glass school entrance. He peers around the pillar to see figures of men and women in different positions. He can see at least 10 gunmen and 40 hostages. The hostages are arranged from 4 lines of 10 with 5 men in the front and 5 women in the back. The gunmen vary in weapon choice from the PM-3, a pistol master, Trojan Ram Mk. 1, a scattershot, Black Force 10mm, an SMG, and Deaths Conquest, a Light Assault Rifle. 3 of the 10 gunmen are carrying PM-3's which that would mean they are the leaders of this hostage takeover. If the police aren't already on their way, calling them now would be bad. If the police get here, then the gunmen would just use the hostages as part of the negotiations. And chances are there are more gunmen inside.

Fan pulls out his phone to call emergency services. He puts in "911" and presses enter. The call rings for 3 times before the call itself disconnects. "I knew it." he mutters. Fan was calling the police as a test to see if the call would go through, nothing more. Since it didn't, that means they have jammers at the phone towers and nothing is coming in or going out of this district. Phone calls, texts, social media posts. Nothing. Fan will need to handle this himself to the best of his knowledge and ability.

He takes another look inside to update himself on the gunman's positions. He now only sees 3 of them. 1 PM-3 user, 2 Black Force users guarding the hostages and the leader. He plans to run in there and knock out the 2 Black Force users and take control of the radio frequency using the leader as a disguise. But while he's planning his unwelcome party, he can't help but steal one more look at the leader. He darts his eyes at the leader one last time before performing his plan.

Fan immediately notices the leader's long green hair. "No way." he says in a low voice before immediately grinning. He then looks at the body of the green haired woman. She does appear to have the same height and physique of the woman earlier. To think Fan Xun let in a terrorist. Anyone would think he was aiding in their hostage takeover. To say he would be locked up for treason was an understatement. He would be executed along with them for his mistake. Whether he knew or not of their intentions, it was still his fault for letting in a terrorist into the school. Now the details of this sudden and unforeseen event are still unknown to Fan Xun. The only way he can dig himself out of his future execution is to immobilize the terrorists and save as many hostages as possible.

I would like the opinions of the dear readers of my novel about the length of each chapter. Based on this chapter alone, should I make forward chapters longer or keep the same length as this one.
