Chapter Twenty-One: Only Beginning

Chapter Twenty-One: Only Beginning

Dusken has to admit that his Innate ability had broken his expectations. The dark flame could fuse with his blade and enhance its qualities.

The speed of slashing, the sharpness of the blade and the attacks made by the sword. They were all increased in power, and the longsword was more powerful than what was supposed to be of a level one.

These thoughts scratched the back of Dusken's mind as he ran towards the remaining beastman.

He felt that his speed and strength had increased, after slaying the first beastman, more abysmal points had been received, and they had enhanced his physical capabilities.

The remaining alien wasn't idle, and it shot arrows at Dusken; with each and every slash Dusken made, his sword broke any arrows shot at him.

He charged towards the beast-man, and when the distance between them shortened, a short pause was made, and a kick was sent out by him.

At such a close distance, the beast-man couldn't shoot out arrows; it used his arms to defend itself from the kick.

A fist tore outward by the alien heading for Dusken's skull. Due to the close proximity between them, his longsword was too long to deliver an overwhelming slash.

Dusken twirled his sword around and placed its tilt outward to defend himself against the punch.

With a low sound of collision, the punch landed on the tilt of his blade making him slide backwards on the soft soil of the forest.

'The distance is just right'

Without lingering more, Dusken once again spun his sword and gave an upward slash; the sword was lifted from the ground, slicing the air apart and trailing the beast-man's body.

From its lower privates, cutting through flesh and rising to its stomach before its chest.

With an intense scream, the beastman backed away as crimson blood steadily dropped from the wound it received.

The breeze was calm and the stench of blood permeated the atmosphere, and without hesitation, the alien started running backwards to escape from Dusken, but he followed closely behind.

The beastman only stopped after reaching a tree and rested its back on it, staring at Dusken with intense hate.

"I will kill you, and eat you whole, piece by piece." The rage of the beastman was evident in its voice as it shouted.

Dusken immediately stopped where he was as soon as he heard what the beast-man had said. Caution flashed in his eyes as his gaze scanned the area for any threat.

The beastman looked too calm; blood was dripping from its wound, and a pained expression was planted on its face. But still, there was something suspicious as to why it had stopped there.

A desperate enemy was one to never underestimate, Dusken wasn't sure of this alien's ability yet, so being cautious was the only way.

As if to answer his thought, he sensed the shadow of the tree changing as the beastman stretched its hand forward, and then roots blasted out of the tree in multitudes, flying at him with break-neck speed.

'So this is the ability of the beastman?' this thought brushed Dusken's mind, and he instantly reacted.

The blade of his sword, which remained black like a polished existence and was clear of the blood of the beast-man, swept forward at overwhelming speed.

The roots were like ropes and were coalesced shooting together like a thick and unbreakable bind.

Through the shadows, Dusken sensed it all. His sword slashed at a root, cutting it apart, ducking his head down and avoiding another attack, his blade divided another root apart.

Dusken noticed something, ever since his blade had been enhanced by his Innate ability - dark flame, it had become extremely formidable for a level one sword.

Its sharpness was not something that a level one could have, so it was at least halfway to level two or, at most, the peak of level one.

This was amazing; the dark flame had enhanced his sword's ability to such an extent that what if he tried it on himself?

Kicking the earth and backing from a root that entangled his previous location, Dusken couldn't help but ponder on this thought.

His sword strokes with overwhelming, precise accuracy, holding deep meaning and insight.

Instantly, more than seven roots were cut apart, but more replaced them. Dusken clicked his tongue internally as this was getting out of hand.

The thought of making the dark flame enhance his capabilities surfaced once again, but he kicked such a thought away.

Simply because all these vines were level one, but yet his sword could cut them apart with relative ease, and this was due to the dark flame, so what would happen if he were to remove the dark flame?

He would simply be wrapped by all these roots since they would be on the same level as his sword.

Dusken's eyes blazed as his gaze calculated all the roots, they were many, very many, but that meant that they sucked up more magical energy, and if they sucked up more energy, then that meant that the beast-man would be reaching his limits soon.

A cold smile appeared on Dusken's face; all he had to do was persevere; if he persevered, then this battle would be his to win.

But no, Dusken sought the excitement and thrill of battle; he would murder his enemies in a cold, ruthless manner.

He was the protagonist, after all; he had been reborn, and a second chance had been granted to him; ever since his arrival to this world, he knew that the MC of it all was him.

So how could he stay still? A laugh rang out from his mouth, spreading across the area, making the beast-man who heard it tremble as a cold, ominous feeling rose in its heart.

Dusken charged forward, and a root from his right coiled and shot at him; he moved his left leg behind his right, spun and slashed the damned thing apart.

Another one from his left attacked, flawlessly twirling his sword, he grabbed the tilt with both hands and bisected the dried root.

It then that another one hidden below the ground shot up to grab his leg, but then, dark particles swirled around him, and a card appeared in Dusken's hand.

Spell card activation: Nightfall Whisper.

A song, imperceptible and not understandable, sounded in the area, mournful and sorrowful, lonesome and incomprehensible.

All the shadows of the roots and even Dusken's two shadows rose, solidified and formed a dark, obsidian shield that protected him from all the attacks of the roots from ahead.

He held the shield and charged forward, it was time to kill the beastman. But Dusken was not done... he was only beginning.
