“In a way, yes. Sometimes I have a suspect that may not be guilty of the crime he’s being charged with, but he got off in the past. You can’t try him for something he didn’t do, but he wasn’t convicted of something he did do.”
“Huh?”
“Sorry. I have a feeling, Bill’s guilty of something, maybe not this.”
“But what then? Cheating on his taxes. Lots of people do that without remorse,” she argued.
“I don’t know, but I’m going to double check everything on this case.”
“Will he make bail?”
“Not if we can help it. I doubt it, though. He’s accused of killing all those women. It’ll take two weeks for the DNA test to come back and we know for sure whom they belong to. I don’t have too many doubts. He’s got a lot of money so the DA will argue he’s a flight risk.”
“Then what’s the problem?”
“It just doesn’t sit right with me.”
“It’ll look better in the morning,” she murmured. “How’s Cam?”
“He’s resting, but it’ll be a long recovery.” Silence. “
