Not Any Closer to the Killer

Jen rose to leave her interview with Mrs. Prince. Despite copious notes, she didn’t feel any closer to the killer. The grieving mother had given her names and numbers of people that had known Jill, including her most recent ex-boyfriend. “Thank you. I’ll be in touch with this person.” Another thought occurred to Jen. “Where did Jill work?”

“She was unemployed at the moment, though she had a few prospects.” A shudder went through Mrs. Prince and Jen made a note to come back to it. “Who on this list were her closest friends?”

“She had a black book in which she kept her important addresses,” Mrs. Prince said, looking out the window.

“We didn’t find anything like that in her apartment.”

The grieving mother bit her lip. “She left it here on her last visit. It’s actually on the table. I’ll give it to you on your way out.”

“Thanks.”

Jen finished up her questions and confirmed the funeral date.

“Why do you need that?” Mrs. Prince asked.
