Divination Coin

David was planning to put away the daggers and antidote pills in a safe place, then sleep right after. It was already quite late into the night, and he would have to wake up early in the morning tomorrow and go train with Natasha.

But just as he was about to shut the shop window, his gaze fell upon an unassuming item. His eyebrows furrowed as he read its description.

[Divination Coin - A coin nourished by the aura of the Oneiros Castle. It has gained the ability to provide simple divination results for its wielder. Can be upgraded]

[Cost: 10 DP]

[Purchase?]

"Oneiros Castle…" David muttered under his breath. He'd seen that term appear when the system was launched but the system had never told him what it was. So, he asked again, "System, where is Onerios Castle?" Unsurprisingly enough, the system didn't reply and he could only curse, "Bastard!"

Following that, he purchased the divination coin; it only cost 10 DP, anyway. And he was about to dream walk when he went to sleep, so he'd be earning more DP.

Just like before, the void tore open and a simple silver coin flew out of it and landed in David's hand. He looked at the ordinary-looking coin and saw that one side of it had a four-leaf clover carved on it, while the other side had a skull.

"Huh." David rubbed his chin. "Let's see how you work."

The next moment, knowledge magically appeared in his mind, courtesy of the system, and taught him exactly how to utilize the coin. David then thought in his mind, 'Is Natasha spying on me?' With that, he flipped the coin.

The coin spun a few times in the air and then landed on his palm, with the skull side facing up.

"I see," David nodded in understanding. "So I can divine the answers to simple questions. The four-leaf clover means a positive answer and the skull means a negative one."

He thought that was quite a handy trick. And there was another way to divine things that were more than just a simple yes or no question.

David then mumbled, "Will my journey to the dreamworld tonight be dangerous?"

The next moment, the coin mysteriously stood on David's palm and began rotating in a clockwise direction at a slow speed. Seeing that, his eyebrows furrowed.

A counterclockwise spin meant a negative answer and a clockwise spin meant a positive one. The results of the divination were: the journey to the dreamworld would be dangerous, albeit not that much.

David decided to confirm the results of the divination and went to bed. He kept the coin in his pocket and began meditating to fall asleep. Within a few minutes, he had drifted off to the dreamworld.

...

He opened his eyes and once again he was back in the mysterious world of dreams. David looked around and found that he was still on his bed inside his bedroom, and his body had once again become incorporeal.

Looking around his room and seeing every little thing forming kaleidoscopic patterns, he couldn't help but joke, "This is probably what people see when they do psychedelic drugs."

Suddenly, his expression turned solemn. After all, the results of the divination said that it would be dangerous here. Thus, he decided to take full precautions and only explore the nearby surroundings. He wasn't planning to go far from his building.

This time he left his apartment through the door and surveyed the corridor. He then phased through the wall right across from him and entered his neighbor's apartment. Inside, he saw a small white orb floating atop the bed.

David breathed a sigh of relief, as that meant he wouldn't have to look for dreams anymore. Just this one should provide him with a few DP for the night. The next moment, he closed his eyes and touched the white orb, then disappeared.

When he opened his eyes again, he found himself standing on a vast green field. A few meters in front of him, under the shade of an old tree, he saw a man and woman sitting close to each other, holding hands and talking.

For some reason, he was reminded of Elena when he saw the couple in front of him. He shook his head and went behind the couple, planning to eavesdrop. The man in question was the person whose dream he was in.

As David listened to the couple speak, his eyes suddenly fell on the gray barrier in the distance.

"It's that thing again!" he exclaimed as he walked toward the barrier. He had thought that the barrier was only specific to the dream of the tramp he had visited last time, but it looked like it was present in everyone's dreams.

His curiosity was piqued as he walked toward the barrier. He wondered if he would see another island past the barrier, just like in the last one.

When he reached the barrier and pressed his hand against it, much to his surprise, he realized that the resistance was far less than he had felt the last time and he could indeed see another island past the barrier. So he exerted more force and slowly but steadily entered the smoky barrier.

It felt like his entire body was moving through quicksand. After an unknown amount of time, David reached the edge of the gray smoke. As he took his next step, he realized that there was no footing anymore!

"FUCK!" he screamed as he fell down. And before he knew it, he landed on the ground. He got to his feet and looked around and his eyes widened in shock when he realized he was standing on the island that he had seen through the barrier!

And when he looked up, he saw a gray cloud hovering right above the island. He incredulously muttered, "Don't tell me! Is that where I just came from? Is that the dream!?"

He was completely speechless, to say the least. Suddenly, he heard the sounds of waves crashing against the edge of the island and turned his head to look toward the sound. When his gaze fell on the sea, he was instinctively drawn to it.

He felt like it was calling out to him. Unbeknownst to him, he had already started walking toward the edge of the island. Right when he was a few meters away from the sea, all sorts of malevolent thoughts and voices assaulted his mind.

"KILL! PILLAGE! LOOT! MURDER! SIN!" The ramblings repeated in his mind, causing him to grab his head in agony and drop to his knees.

"AAAAGGGHHH!!" he screamed at the top of his lungs as the pain was unbearable. It felt like someone was scratching his brain with sharp nails. Just when he thought he wouldn't be able to take it anymore, he disappeared from the island.

GASP!!

David's eyes snapped open as he looked around in terror. His back was drenched in cold sweat and he was sweating profusely. After ensuring he had returned to the real world, he muttered in absolute fear, "That island… what the hell was that!?"

DING!

[+100 DP]

He completely ignored the system's notification and put his hand in his pocket and took out the silver coin. Looking at it, he couldn't help but mutter in astonishment, "The divination was accurate!"
