Chapter 45: Slumber
The following morning, I sit up with the hopes that Dominik has awoken. But when I look over, he is still lying in the same position as before. I place my hand on his chest, feeling the short rises and falls of his breathing. At the very least, he is still alive.
I walk downstairs, finding the rest of the group waiting in the dining area. Zephyr and Kam still look exhausted, but they sit in front of empty plates, and smile when I sit down. Jeffery, still here after the night’s work, sets down food in front of me, telling me to eat up.
“How are you two feeling?” I ask, picking up a chunk of bread.
“Terrible, but alive,” Zephyr answers. He gives me a sad smile. “How’s Dominik?”
I stare down at the table. “Still not awake.”
“Still alive, right?” Kam asks. I nod and she breathes a sigh. “Then we just have to wait. In the meantime…”
