It’s late at night when I finally hear a knock on my door. I open it to see Jeffery, brows knitted tight and forehead wrinkled severely. He walks in, and I shut the door, ensuring on one is outside to overhear us. I then sit down on the side of the bed.
“What happened?” Jeffery asks. “I got some pals to break into the mansion, but they said you were already taken somewhere else.”
“They took us to the barracks,” I say. “They’re planning to start a war with Galimum. They want to use the others as weapons.”
Jeffery curses and rubs his chin thoughtfully. I allow him time to absorb the information. He paces the room, grumbling, before finally turning back to me.
“Are the others okay?” he asks.
“Last time I saw them, yes,” I say. I bite my lip before continuing, “But I’m not sure how well they’ll be after what happened.”
“What do you mean?”
