Chapter 26: The Castle

Over the next few days, we work together on Dominik’s recovery. In the beginning, he’s unable to get out of bed. We work slowly to get him sitting up, and then standing for a short period of time. Once he’s able to stand for a minute, we try walking.

“This is impossible,” Dominik grunts, having fallen to his knees again after two steps. He slams his fist against the floor, creating a deafening bang. “I should just be finished off.”

“Don’t speak like that,” I say, placing my hand on his arm. “We’re going to get through this. You’re going to get better.”

“And if I never do?” he asks, looking up at me. His brows are furrowed in anger, but there’s an immense sadness behind his eyes.

“I’ll still be here for you,” I tell him.

The sound of someone gagging alerts us to Zephyr standing at the door. He leans against the doorway, staring down at us. “Eurus has prepared dinner, if you would like to join us.”
