Chapter 25
“Well, we had a little wine,” Howard said. “You know how I am on Fridays.”
“Dead ass sober,” Janey said.
“Yeah, you used to tell us you would always be that way in case we needed you to pick us from a party. You said you would always be our designated driver,” James said.
“You really told them that?” Jason asked.
“Yes, I know how high school can be,” Howard answered.
“It’s a little cheesy,” Jason said. “But God, is that beautiful. You really do deserve palimony.”
“Told you,” Howard said.
“Back to the subject at hand,” Janey said. “So, we know Da might have had too many, but we’re supposed to believe you drank too much to drive Da home?”
“Well, neither of you are in town now. You’ve been in Europe, and James has been at Cornell,” Howard said. “It’s been hard for me. I’ve actually been struggling with what I am worried might be turning into alcoholism.”
Janey and James both burst out laughing.
“You are way too much of a control freak to ever be an alcoholic,” James said.
