The Demon Twins

"I've heard the rumors but you two truly look nothing alike." "Does it matter?" "I suppose not, kill me off then." "It's my turn, Louis." "Get on with it then." With a loud laugh, the giant man brought down his hammer. With a squelching sound, a head was ground to a paste. This story centers around twins, starting off from their youth they go through a gradual progress in getting stronger. The stronger they become, however, they realize more and more that they will never get peace. *** Disclaimer: Firstly, this is my first long novel. This story will be slow, hopefully, I can do proper world-building. Power progression also won't be all too fast. I have no editor, so grammar might be off at some places. Hopefully, you'll enjoy reading it.

Chapter 16

A year passed while the twins learned of many things. With the occasional spurts of free time the two had, Louis visited the Baron's library while Arthur had spent more time swinging his hammer. The two achieved basic mastery over their chosen weapons and managed to get their attributes to cover their upper body and for their legs, above the knees. The two were head and shoulders above the rest of the noble children and were frequently shunned due to their outstanding performance, not that the two cared anyways.

Today was a special day to the two, however, as they would finally become older brothers. Mallory was long due, but the pregnancy lasted longer than expected. She often coughed blood and was pale all the time. The doctors that served under Darion believed poison to be the cause but believed that the child could still be birthed safely.

The twins were outside watching as Darion paced back and forth while Mallory's screams grew louder. Eventually, after a small slap the cry of an infant sounded out. Darion's large figure radiated with joy as he ran into the room, soon followed by the twins.

Mallory held the child close to her chest while the midwife and doctor talked with Darion, "My Lord, the baby came out a healthy boy. If you would allow me to use the Detector on the boy-" "No, well done on getting the child out safely but I will be the one to use the Detector."

Darion moved forward with hurried steps as he gently touched the young newborn child. The newborn was born with the same brown hair the same as the twins and Mallory had, he clutched onto Mallory tightly wailing and hiccuping. While Darion was moving the Detector towards the child he became more and more nervous.

Darion hoped for the child to have a bloodline, his Bellthorne bloodline. Although the bloodline ability of the Bellthornes was not the best, the extra trait from it was more than enough to place the Bellthornes above other lightning-based element users. The Bellthornes had the ability to make their lightning into thorns, latching onto themselves it would trade blood for more power latching onto their enemies it remain in them and allow for various methods of attack.

Pressing the Detector against the child slowly Darion held his breath. The Detector soon went through a mixture of different colors before turning grey, Darion turned even more hopeful as he simulated his lightning attribute against the Detector. Receiving the electricity, the Detector changed colors to be the same as Darion's lightning.

"We have another Bellthorne today!" Darion yelled out laughing. Darion checked up on Mallory once more and left the room in order to prepare for the child's future. Soon after Darion left, the twins moved closer and sat beside Mallory's bed. Noticing Mallory's pale face Arthur asked worriedly, "Are you okay?"

Mallory chuckled slightly before asking the doctors and midwives to leave her chambers. Once everyone other than herself, the twins, and the sleeping newborn were left she opened her mouth. "I'm dying, so I suppose now is the time to tell you."

"This may come as a shock to you both, but we, all of us here, aren't human."
