Chapter 30: Can't Be Mischievous Anymore

[VOTE STONES PLZ ]

Tom was eager to be the first to cast the Flame-Licking Charm because the first person to do so would likely earn points and trigger achievements.

He looked at Professor Flitwick, who probably thought Tom was nervous and gave him an encouraging smile.

With Professor Flitwick's permission, Tom drew his wand and exclaimed, "Incendio!"

A flame thinner than a matchstick's fire emerged from Tom's wand tip and landed on the desk.

"Very well done!" Professor Flitwick clapped his hands and praised, "Everyone, take a look! Mr. Riddle has succeeded! Ravenclaw earns one point!"

[For the Glory of Ravenclaw! Successfully earned points for Ravenclaw House×1 Magic Stones +10]

[Wizarding Wunderkind becomes the first in the class to cast the Flame-Licking Charm×10 Magic Stones]

[Recognition by Flitwick is appreciated by Professor Flitwick×10 Magic Stones]

Tom had just earned 30 Magic Stones and opened up a new way to earn them. To his surprise, Charms class wasn't all theory. Now he had a label for Charms in his knowledge category, and he had gained three experience points.

However, it seemed that Quirrell was really struggling. The system didn't even recognize his teaching, as there was no label for Dark Arts Defense in his knowledge category.

Tom realized that the system didn't recognize teaching of poor quality, and therefore, no experience could be earned. It made sense; otherwise, anyone could earn experience just by reading a book for an hour in the library or daydreaming for an hour.

Next up was Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall.

Professor McGonagall was different from the other professors. Professor Quirrell was cowardly, Professor Flitwick was like a character from a fairy tale, and Professor Snape had a villainous demeanor. McGonagall, on the other hand, was strict and smart. It was said that when she was sorted into a House, the Sorting Hat took almost ten minutes deciding between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw before finally choosing her preference and placing her in Gryffindor.

In her first class, she demonstrated her power. As she entered the classroom, most students saw a tabby cat before the students were gathered. Once they were all in, the tabby cat transformed into Professor McGonagall herself. This transformation startled most students, especially those who hadn't been guided by McGonagall personally.

She knocked on the table, regaining the students' attention. "Hogwarts offers one of the most challenging courses in Transfiguration. Therefore, anyone attempting to disrupt my class will be asked to leave. Once you're asked to leave, don't bother coming back, and don't say I didn't warn you."

Tom and the others, even though they weren't troublemakers, felt the sternness in her tone. They knew better than to mess around in Professor McGonagall's class, even Slytherin students. After all, Professor Snape would never intercede on their behalf when facing Professor McGonagall. It was even more uncomfortable than asking Professor Snape to become Harry's guardian.

Professor McGonagall then demonstrated her magical abilities by transfiguring a desk into a chubby pig, which snorted and moved toward the students. With another wave of her wand, the pig turned back into a desk.

This display of transfiguration caught the students' attention, and they couldn't wait to start learning transfiguration. However, they soon realized how difficult it was. Tom was well-versed in the theory but struggled when it came to practical application. His magical output was either too high or too low, preventing him from achieving the desired transformation. He even accidentally snapped a matchstick in two. However, Professor McGonagall didn't scold him. Instead, she observed the broken matchstick closely and encouraged him, "Very good! The head of your matchstick has already become sharp, and the cross-section has turned metallic. You just need to control your magical output."

Hermione, seated next to Tom, progressed rapidly. She waved her wand once, and her matchstick twisted and became thinner, with one end turning sharper and displaying a metallic sheen. Hermione was satisfied with her achievement, her bushy hair concealing her brighter eyes. By the end of the lesson, only Hermione had successfully transformed her matchstick into a perfect needle, while Tom could only manage to make one end of the matchstick sharper, with about half of it turned metallic.

After the class, Tom found that he had earned four experience points in the Transfiguration category in his knowledge.

He couldn't help but be impressed by Professor McGonagall's mastery of Transfiguration. She had demonstrated the mysterious aspects of the magical world, showcasing their incredible power.

Yes, on the battlefield, guns were certainly more effective than wands, but if wizards concealed themselves in the shadows, they could be a terrifying force. After all, if Professor McGonagall could turn a desk into a pig, she could just as easily transform a simple kitchen knife into a sizzling steak.

Tom contemplated this as he eagerly looked forward to mastering Transfiguration in the future.
