"To be honest, I really don't want to pretend that I'm an expert in teaching," Aberforth said, taking four bottles of butterbeer from under the bar and placing them on the worn-out counter.
After Albert paid 8 Sickles, he retrieved the four bottles of butterbeer and distributed them to everyone.
Aberforth placed the Sickles into the wooden money box and continued the previous topic, "The magic we use isn't just a single way; wizards further refine magic to make it change according to the caster's intent. It's a more advanced form of magical application."
"Wizards often refer to it as advanced something." Aberforth took a drag of his cigarette, blowing a smoke ring lazily. "Of course, the reason it's called advanced magic is because these changes represent a further level of magical use. Many wizards don't know about them and can't achieve this. Their existence stems from wizards' further exploration and research into magic."
"I know this. Like this, right?" Albert raised his wand and cast a Lumos spell. A glowing ball floated up from the tip of his wand and hovered above everyone's heads, instantly brightening up the previously dim Hog's Head Inn.
Aberforth couldn't help widening his eyes and opened his mouth to say something, but he forgot he had been smoking. Smoke billowed out of his mouth, causing Aberforth to cough repeatedly.
"Well, I guess so!" Aberforth was astonished by Albert's magical talent. Even Aberforth himself couldn't achieve this level at this age.
"Of course, the Patronus Charm is far more difficult. Being an advanced magical form, it's naturally even harder." Aberforth ignored the smoke, walked out from behind the counter, and sat on the creaky wooden chair opposite Albert, continuing, "Many people think that only those with pure hearts can summon a Patronus, but that's actually a misconception. Many individuals with negative personality traits can also summon a Patronus."
Fred, George, and Lee Jordan exchanged looks, but Albert wasn't surprised. He remembered that Professor Umbridge from the fifth year was able to cast a Patronus too.
"It seems you know about these things," Aberforth was a bit suspicious whether the young man before him might become the next Aberforth in a few years.
"Yeah, I know," Albert replied with a nod, encouraging Aberforth to continue.
"During the casting of the Patronus Charm, the caster needs to maintain confidence, focus all their thoughts on a particularly happy memory, and have powerful magical strength to support the incantation's effect," Aberforth explained. "The advanced form of the Patronus Charm, you should have read the notes I gave you."
"I did read them, but I still find some parts unclear. Maybe you can explain it in person!"
Naturally, Albert had read what Aberforth had written for him, but he found the text less helpful; it was too abstract.
"Your determination must be strong. Negative emotions can affect the release of the Patronus Charm. Many wizards can't cast a Patronus when facing Dementors," Aberforth held up a finger. "You need to learn how to keep yourself happy."
"Most advanced magic requires strong magical power as support, and the Patronus Charm is no exception. That's why they can't succeed at the moment," Aberforth raised a second finger, then pointed at Fred and the others who were attempting the Patronus Charm.
"Confidence is half the battle," Aberforth raised a third finger, "but I think you're not lacking in that department."
Even Aberforth could see that this young man before him was very confident, never doubting his own success.
Listening, Albert was left somewhat speechless. He really wanted to cut to the chase and ask Aberforth to get to the point, but he held back and didn't interrupt Aberforth's flow.
"To master the advanced Patronus Charm, you need to be able to easily use the basic Patronus Charm first," Aberforth seemed to sense Albert's impatience and continued, "When casting the Patronus Charm, there's a circular wand motion. This is the process of accumulating magical power for the spell. After that, you need to say the incantation 'Expecto Patronum'."
"During the accumulation process, you need to repeat the message you want to convey in your mind," Aberforth explained, "so usually the message isn't too long."
Wesley Brothers and Lee Jordan could understand every word, yet they couldn't comprehend what was being said.
"Got it!"
Albert understood what Aberforth meant.
"Understood?" Aberforth marveled inwardly, impressed by this young man.
"Give it a try!" he suggested.
"You haven't finished, have you!" Albert suddenly interjected.
"I was originally planning to explain the final steps when you're capable of reaching that level," Aberforth didn't intend to hide anything and continued.
"Next, you need the Patronus to locate the person you want to communicate with. Through a fixed location, the principle is similar to a Patronus being summoned, you need to know the exact location. Another method is to directly locate the individual, somewhat resembling the Trace charm. Can you cast the Trace charm? I think this part might be a bit too advanced for you at the moment."
Albert furrowed his brow slightly; he indeed didn't know how to cast the Trace charm.
"Learn the Trace charm when you get back."
"Expecto Patronum!" Albert recalled a happy memory, pondered the message he wanted to convey, and finally uttered the incantation. A silver mist emitted from the tip of his wand.
Without a doubt, it was a failure.
"Failure is quite normal. You need more practice. No one can immediately master the advanced use of the Patronus after learning the theory," Aberforth consoled offhandedly.
"Thank you, Mr. Aberforth!" Albert pulled out a pen and, under Aberforth's surprised gaze, jotted down the advanced Patronus usage.
Then, he motioned for his three companions to leave the Hog's Head Inn together.
"I hate the Hog's Head Inn," George muttered.
"Well, that's a surprise!" Lee Jordan finished the remaining butterbeer in one gulp and left with Albert.
"I think the Patronus Charm is really hard to learn!"
A feeble gas emerged from Fred's wand.
"Your magical power is still insufficient. I learned it after spending quite a bit of time. Of course, using it against Dementors is a different matter," Albert prepared to return to Hogwarts before other students arrived in Hogsmeade.
"We want to visit Zonko's Joke Shop," Fred and George chimed in unison, "Our Dungbombs are almost gone."
"I heard there are new products at Zonko's," Lee Jordan chimed in.
"Alright, but I think we better hurry!" Albert pulled out his pocket watch and waved it in front of the three, saying, "I don't want to get caught wandering around Hogsmeade by someone and have them report us to the professors."
As it turned out, Albert's words were in vain.
As soon as the trio entered Zonko's Joke Shop, their attention was captivated by the myriad of products inside. When they were ready to return to Hogwarts, the streets of Hogsmeade were already crowded with students. The four had to use the Disillusionment Charm to make a wide detour and avoid the passing students.
