Chapter 10: Who's Next?

" Godown?, why?," asked Raghav.

" I think we could get some clue from there," said Shiva.

" From there?,"

" Yes,"

" Okay, let's go, "

The boys were standing in front of the godown now. It was a huge one, although it was burnt but the fire could not affect the concrete much. The area surrounding it was having very less trees and its shutter was closed but had no locks.

Shiva observed the place carefully and slowly walked to the shutter and looked at it.

" Can we go inside?," Shiva spoke.

" Yeah, but why?," asked Raghav.

" Let's check the godown,"

The boys then opened up the shutter, went inside and closed it back.

" Be careful not to touch anything," said Shiva.

" Why are you talking like those policemen?," Mohan said.

" Really?, am I?,"

" He got into the character," Raghav chuckled.

" Nothing like that,"

" But what are we doing here and what are you searching in here?," asked Raghav.

" Searching for clues," said Shiva.

" Clues?,"

" Yes, if there's a killer then probably he could use this place as a hiding place or to hide the kidnapped ones,"

" Oh!, now I get it,"

" Yes, so guys, look around, don't touch anything and if you find something strange then call me,

The three boys scattered all over the godown in the search of clue.

The godown was dusty as it was not used for years and there was only one entrance which was the shutter. There were many boxes kept on each other and drums kept side by side. Although the main entrance was closed but the place was not out of light as there was a small, open window located on the top of the front wall and the rear wall and two exhausts on both the left and right walls.

CHHEEEK.....

It was Mohan, the place was dusty and dust had entered into his nostrils.

" You okay?," asked Raghav.

" Yeah, alright,"

" For what purpose was this godown used?," asked Shiva.

" Mr. Thackeray was importing and exporting the farm products and grains, so this godown must've been used to store those things," Raghav spoke.

" Farm products and grains....," Shiva thought.

Just at the center there were many wooden boxes kept on each other that occupied a large area, Shiva just stared them.

He then looked at the floor, it was concrete and then once again he swept his gaze across the godown.

" Did you guys find something?," Shiva said.

" No, there are just drums and wooden boxes," said Mohan.

" Hmm..., let's go out,"

" No clues here," Raghav spoke.

" Let's go home, we shall continue our search tomorrow," said Shiva.

Shiva and Mohan left to their house while Raghav left for his. And once again on the way Shiva and Raghav met with Sarpanch, it seemed like he was in a hurry to reach somewhere.

" Good afternoon Gokhale Kaka," Mohan greeted.

" Good Afternoon," replied the old man.

" You seem to be in hurry,"

" Hurry?, no, not at all, I'm just thirsty, and I want to reach home before I die of dehydration," said the old man and laughed.

" Take care," said Mohan.

" Yes, yes," saying this he left.

" People in this village are so good," Mohan said.

" Yes, but no good things are happening with them," said Shiva.

Once again, the bright blue sky had turned into a yellowish one and the sun had gone behind the mountains and the night was about to begin and it was time when no one wanted to stay out of their houses.

Every door of the village was closed now and the village was filled by a ghostly silence. Only the police were roaming around the village to patrol.

Shiva and the two families sat for the dinner.

" Abhishek will be arriving tomorrow, right," Girish spoke.

" No, after two days ," Geeta said

" I see,"

" I'm worried about the engagement program," Ramkrushna said.

" Why?,"

" You know the situation of the village, we'll have to get everything done before the sun sets,"

" I know, and in this summer it's hard to stay out in afternoon,"

" Yes,"

" But why are you arranging this program here in the village, you can do it in the city where Abhishek lives," Girish said.

Shiva was listening to their conversation with attention but he didn't showed it.

" What about the villagers, they need to be invited too, and its hard for them to come in such a big city," said Ramkrushna.

" That's right, I didn't thought about that,"

" We'll have to manage somehow,"

" I heard that Mr. Deshmukh had gone out of the village," said Anjali.

" Out of the village?, why?," asked Ramkrushna.

" Don't know,"

" It must be some important work as he would never take leave during the school exams,"

" Exams?," asked Shiva.

" Yes, it's March, there are exams going on in the schools,"

" Ah it's March, yes," Shiva gave a nod as he realized.

The family done their dinner, sat together watching the television and went to sleep.

It seemed as if the light was taken away from the world, there was only darkness and cold made him shiver. Although he could not see himself but he was able to feel his body, he felt like he was trapped in a void.

Then he heard some voice, it was Amish, his father. He was talking to someone on telephone with a tensed voice, Shiva could not understand their conversation but he could feel the tension in his father's voice. He felt something warm and suddenly he was in the center of the village, the whole village was burning and then he could see his father going away from him. He cried and yelled but his father could not listen his voice.

Suddenly Shiva got out from his sleep. He realized that it was a nightmare, again.

He called Raghav near the Mango tree and both Shiva and Mohan headed toward the tree.

" Where are we going today?," Raghav asked.

" Nowhere," Shiva said.

" Nowhere?,"

" Yes, because if I'm right then the game is going to change now,"

" What do you mean?," asked Mohan.

" You heard what Anjali aunty said yesterday?,"

" Uhh... she said many things, which one are you talking about?," said Mohan lamely.

" About Mr. Deshmukh,"

" Yes, that he's out of the village?,"

" Right,"

" But why would he go out of the village at this time of the final exams and as far as I know there are not much of his close relatives out of this village," said Raghav.

" There you are," said Shiva. " So, why would he go?,"

" Maybe due to some other work," said Mohan.

" That could be but the chances are very less as he works in the school as a teacher not in the management staff, so what work could have occurred?,"

" So?,"

" And Mohan, you remember we went to Mr. Pandey's house,"

" Yes, what about that?,"

" Remember I asked him to check the records of Mr. Gajanan's duty, it turned out that he tookleave when Mr. Deshmukh was out of the village,"

" Yeah,"

" So why did he took leave only on that day?,"

" Ahh, why?,"

" To protect the second piece which Mr. Deshmukh had,"

" What?!,"

" So why would Mr. Gajanan take leave on the same day on which Mr. Deshmukh went out?,"

" That makes sense," said Raghav.

" And why would he go out of the village at this time?,"

" To protect the second piece!," said Mohan.

" Yes!, that's right," Shiva said.

" That means even if the killer kills the remaining two persons and gets the parts of the key he'll be unable to open the secret compartment because the key would not be completed," Raghav spoke.

" Yes, the remaining three persons must have decided this,"

" So now the killer will not be able to do anything, right?," asked Mohan.

" As long as Mr. Deshmukh is out of the village, but for how long?,"

" The killer must be finding the other two persons now," Raghav said.

" Couldn't it be easier if Mr. Deshmukh gives that part to any of his relatives or friend?," Mohan said.

" No, it can't be because the secrecy cannot be broken as it's a question of thousands of lives," said Shiva.

" He'll have to come back," said Raghav thinking.

" Well....," said Shiva." If they made this plan, those three persons, then they must've met somewhere,"

" They can talk on call too," Raghav suggested.

" Yes, that could be," said Shiva looking down and thinking.

" The killer knows that Mr. Deshmukh has to come back, he'll not stop, either those persons will have to come up with a solution or us,"
