Chapter Thirteen

"And then what happened?" Alexia asks, smiling at me for the millionth time.

It's finally the weekend until school again on Monday and I had a fun time with Tego that I absolutely cannot forget because other than the fact that it was absolutely amazing- Alexia will not stop asking me things about it just to find another detail to squeal over.

"And then we went again." I smile at her.

She laughs again before going on her phone then I see her face twist into confusion.

"You haven't seen this?" She holds up her phone for me to see.

A popular Instagram page known for this type of content posted videos of a major accident involving a coaster bus, a Suzuki Vitara and my heart stopped for a second when I saw the next vehicle.

I don't even know his license plate number but that wouldn't even be very helpful considering the entire car is crushed from both the front and the back.

"When last have you spoken to him?" Alexia's voice brings me back to reality.

Alexia pushes her eyebrows together then kisses her teeth. "I'm gonna call Chino."

She holds the phone to her ear the breathes a sigh of relief signaling that the phone got picked up.

"Are you okay?" She breathes then listens intently.

"No, I saw an accident online-" She pushes her eyebrows together again and her face twists into confusion then she angrily hangs up the phone.

"What the fuck?" She sounds like she's speaking to herself.

"What did he say?" I'm beginning to be worried.

"He said he can't talk right now. He'll call me back."

Tego's P.O.V.

"Yuh call your b?" Chino asks me after hanging up his phone.

"We can't focus on how they feel right now. We have things to deal with." I mumble and adjust my strap in my waist before turning back up my music.

Jade's P.O.V.

I've been trying non stop to get him but it keeps going straight to voicemail.

I decide to just call him to catch up. I can't believe we haven't spoken in such a long time but to be fair the last few times we spoke weren't on the best of terms.

"What have you been up to?"

He kisses his teeth. "Good question, Jade. How about I ask you that same question. What have you been up to?"

"What are you referring to?" I push my eyebrows together in an attempt to remember if something happened.

Before I could even think about a response I hear the call end.

I decide to tidy up my house, then take a shower and listen to some music to clear my head but Tego is always in the back of my mind no matter how hard I try to shake any negative thoughts away.

After showering I put on some comfy clothes and get in my vehicle.

I need to clear my head.

I stop at Starbucks on Bottom Road for a drink, a sandwich and two slices of lemon pound cake.

I'm driving without an aim but I think ultimately, I have a destination in mind.

After driving for the next thirty minutes, I pull over on my destination after realizing that the beach house is completely empty, as expected.

I love coming to this beach house. It reminds me of good times and good days. It reminds me of when I was a child and my entire family would be here- even the ones from abroad.

The best thing about this place though is that there are no tainted memories. I can't speak for anyone else but for me, it was like a perfect little bubble- an escape from the real world. Every memory is a happy one. Aunties and uncles having you take a sip from their bottle, playing with my cousins and often needing multiple trips to the igloos for a refresher, hearing the dominoes or ludo pieces slam against the tables so loud we could go deaf or even just hearing my great grandparents and all the other elders tell us crazy stories about what they experienced growing up.

I love the beach house.

The kitchen is in full swing as always; the memories dancing with me causing me to smile at myself so I grab a bottle of champagne and help myself along with some fruits.

That's when my phone rings.

Without thinking, I quickly answer, almost spilling the bottle.

"Tego." I breathe into the phone.

"Why aren't you home?"

Huh?

"How do you know I'm not at home?"
