Ash was so gentle picking me up off the bed, sliding his hands under my shoulders and knees and lifting me effortlessly to his chest. The way he was forced to lean, his jaw brushed mine and his breath fluttered in my hair.
I swallowed uncomfortably as he carried me out of the room, turning sideways through the door to fit, then relying on the other guards to check the halls and make sure they were empty.
It was late. Hours after dinner. The only people in the halls at this time were the servants, but they were the worst gossips, David had said. So Ash waited, his jaw tight and eyes flat, until the others told him there was no one in sight.
Then he hurried out of the healer's rooms and into the corridor, stalking towards David's suite.
