Chapter Two

(Matthew's Pov)

"I heard that Nikki found her mate last week," Michael says and I sigh and rub a palm down my face. I hate it when my friends bring up a topic about mates.

They think that talking about other people finding their mates would make me feel bad about not having one and go look for her.

But they seem to always forget or more like ignore one thing. I do not want a mate, I don't need one.

Mates are for lonely suckers who think they need another person to feel complete. I mean come on, we're werewolves for goddess's sake, we could punch a hole straight through a concrete wall, run for a hundred miles, and not get tired and as the Alpha of my pack, I got the stronger genes so what the heck do I need a mate for.

"They're really happy you know, I expect a few pups from them soon, don't you think?" He continues and I smile at him from my side of the desk.

"Yeah, I'm happy for them. They complete each other," I say and opened the top drawer of my desk and brought out an orange file.

"So, has the Di Vera construction company set a date for the construction of the new packhouse? and why is the Winston corporation's file on their stupid winepress still here? I thought I told you to burn this shit," I say and throw the file on my desk.

Michael is my right-hand man and partner in the food production company I owned and he was also my Beta and best friend.

"No no no, you are not changing the topic, Matt, we're talking about mates and pups and as far as I can see, you ain't got any," he says with a raised brow that I felt like shaving off. "And as for that shitty file, that has nothing to do with me, go roast your PA about it," he retorts in a sassy tone that has me growling at the disrespect.

"Whoa there Alpha, I didn't mean to put a twist in your panties," the stupid antelope taunts with his neck turned to the left as a sign of submission and a smirk.

"You know, you're one of the only people who can talk to me like that and still breathe and as I have said since we turned eighteen eight years ago, I don't want a fucking mate," I say and twirl my office chair around to calm down a little.

"What's that about not wanting a mate?."

Oh no, mother's here.

"Welcome mother, how are you today?" I asked as I stood up and went around my desk to hug her.

"Hello Luna, Matt is still being a dunderhead about finding his mate," Michael says and I lunge at him but he lets out a laugh and hides behind mother.

"Auntie, save me," he cries in a girly tone, and they both laugh.

"Stop troubling my son you naughty boy," mom scolds with a light tap on Michael's head, I'd rather punch him.

"I'm just fine Matty, I went to attend your aunt's tea party a few cabins from here, and let's just say boredom is real," she says with an eye roll and I laugh at how cheeky she sounds.

"Now I heard you say something as I was about to enter your study. I thought it was just some childish ramblings but are you serious about not wanting one, don't you want to feel blissfully complete, I want my grandchildren too you know and besides you're the Alpha, which means that you need a mate more than the rest of them," she said sagely and I had to grit my teeth together to stop myself from saying what I wanted to.

"But Mickey doesn't have one mother, why don't you scold him," I say in exasperation.

"At least he's looking for her," she replies with her hands on her hips and narrowed eyes.

"I'm outta here, I need to go for a run," I said as I walked around her and out of my home office.

Why can't they just let me be, especially mother, she should know better. After Dad died in a battle with some hunters, she had been utterly devastated and heartbroken and she wanted that to happen to me?! Not happening.

Mates make you vulnerable and that's the last thing I want.

I stride out of the packhouse and immediately change into my wolf form, calming me down a bit. I acknowledged the greetings of my pack members before heading into the woods by the side of the house and I started running, my bright red coat seeming brighter as the sun slowly went back to sleep. I loved sunsets, they are...., Wait, what is that smell?.

It smells like vanilla and red wine with a touch of nature if that makes sense. It's the best thing I've ever smelled in my life, I can even taste it on my tongue.

It is coming from the edge of the woods. I ran towards the direction it was coming from and stopped in my tracks as my eyes fell on the most beautiful creature in the universe.

"Mate".

…………..

I can't believe I found my mate, what have I ever done to deserve this. I had run back to the house like my fur was on fire and transformed back into my human form and bounded up the stairs to my room on the highest floor of this five-story building.

Right now I'm in my bathroom, under the shower with my hands on the glass wall of the shower stall as the warm water cascaded down my body.

I picked up the loofah and slathered it with soap. I try and fail not to imagine that it's her hands that are touching me, washing my hair, and massaging my scalp down to my neck and my shoulders and my chest and my stomach and my hips and my...

Damn it

I am already as hard as a rock, but damn she is the most gorgeous woman I have ever seen in my entire life. None of the other women I've dated over the years can compare.

She wasn't even trying to look beautiful as I deduced from the oversized hoodie and joggers she was wearing.

Those lips, that face, even her hair is beautiful, it's too bad I couldn't see her eyes. Now I wonder what would have happened if she was wearing a tight sexy gown.

I'm pretty sure my dick would have fallen off by now; I feel like such a pervert.

I turn off the shower and walk out of the bathroom butt naked as usual. I put on a black T-shirt and sweatpants before walking to my game room where I'm sure the duckling would be.

"Idiot," I say and smacked the back of his head, causing him to jump and lose concentration which led to his character getting killed in his moment of distraction.

"Into the dead? Seriously, you couldn't find anything better? I'm disappointed," I taunted, causing him to huff and remove his headset, throwing the pad to the side.

"You're a dickhead," he mumbles which I heard but decided to let it slide. I run a hand through my wet hair with a sigh.

"I found her Mike," I say and plop down on the couch beside him. He froze and slowly turned towards me with a sprite in one hand and the other hand on the door of my mini-fridge just beside him.

"You found your mate?," He asks in belief.

"Yes Sherlock," I reply with a groan.

"Congratulations man!" he yells out, accidentally flinging the sprite at the wall where it shatters.

He jumps on me with a wide grin, "So how was it? Did you already have outdoor sex? you naughty boy," he taunts and I push him off me.

"No, I left," I say and he gasps dramatically.

"You left your mate!," Mike yells again, "Did you reject her already?" he asks with eyes wide in horror.

"Of course not, that would kill both of us, remember and besides, she's human so she won't even know," I say as I walk to the mini-fridge and take out a can of soda.

"You're cleaning that up," I say, pointing at the broken bottle but of course he ignores me.

"But do you know who she is right?" he asks.

"Nope. But I do know that she's a student because she was with a bag, books, and a bicycle and she had the student look," I answered and took a sip of my soda.

"Well, there are two colleges in this area but since she was with a bicycle then it means it's close by," he says in excitement.

"Slow down genius, what are you so excited about, she is my mate, not yours," I say with a possessiveness that shocks the both of us.

"I know," he says with a smirk and I look away and scoff.

"Whatever."

"So since you're too busy being a prick, I'm going to become a teacher there and protect my Luna," he says and stands up and heads for the door.

"Wait, what about work and your pack duties?" I ask.

"Well Roman is here, he's your gamma, after all, have him take my place for a while at work and as for pack duties, protecting my Luna is my duty," he concludes and walks out.

Well, honestly it kinda makes me feel better that she would be protected by my Beta since I'd be dead if she's killed. Yeah, that's why.

Michael can be a decent friend sometimes.

I finished my drink and threw the can in the bin by my seat before standing up and heading for my bedroom.

As I reach the door, I stop and palm my forehead. "That idiot didn't clean his mess up."
