Immediately after he ended the call, he turned to Cora, who was watching him anxiously wanting to know the way forward.
"They didn't find anyone by that name at the address you gave," he said, trying to keep his tone neutral. "I guess he lied to you about his name."
Cora's face fell, and she bit her lip, her worry evident. "So… what does that mean?" she asked worriedly, her heart beating rhythmically against the wall of her chest.
"I think he targeted you though. It isn't just blackmail because he just happens to remember that he has your picture and can use it for money," Derek said, more to himself as if trying to solve the puzzle.
Cora shook her head. "Not that. I want to know what this means for me. Are we never going to find him? Does this mean I have to live my life in fear knowing if I pay him now, he's just going to keep coming for more and might even decide to release the pictures when he gets tired?" Cora asked on the verge of tears.
