Chapter Sixteen: The Big White Wolf

Jackia's Point Of View

After dinner I went straight to my room to have a good night's rest. I couldn't bring myself to think about what Ralph said. My wolf was angry with me, she refused to talk to me. When I asked her if we should accept his proposal? She never responded.

I had to get some sleep, only to be woken up the next morning by my maid.

" Miss Jackia, you have to wake up early for today's game before the ritual " she said as she tried to wake me up but I reluctantly opened my eyes to listen to her ..

"Miss Jackia come on let's go", she said almost crying " what game are you talking about àgian? I don't want to do anything "

"It is a game to test your strength as the future Luna. If you are strong and skillful enough to help maintain your status ".

I tried to comprehend what she had said, but the more I tried, the more confusing it became. So I had to get up from my bed only to see that she had picked a pair of jeans and a t-shirt with a cowboy hat and a pair of brown shoes. She must have been in my room for quite some time.

"Thank you so much, what will I have done without you?" And she blushed. She helped me to freshen up as I made my way out of the wash room and got ready as soon as I was done, she began to hasten me again.

"Come on Miss Jackia, we are already late".

I rushed right out to join the others who were already ready to start the game and the Alpha and his Beta were addressing them. He introduced the first game, arrow and bow.

The rest of the maidens tried, but none of them could get to the red target except me.

It was a simple act of fun exercise for me, I was a warrior so most of the field games should look like a joke to me .

Then later on I went to the stable to pick one of the palace finest horses, as we were told the next game was going to be racing with the alpha, I was on my way looking at the horse. One could tell which horse would win the game by their stamina and liveliness.

But I was stopped on my track when I saw a big brown horse. It looked like the perfect one that would race tirelessly.

I took a little time to check him out.

" Hello there, how're you?" I patted the horse as it neighed at me.

"Come on old boy, let 's check you out ".

But it refused at first to stand right up, until I patted him. Just then Sarai spoke after being quiet for the whole night.

"He won't go far into the race. Though he is strong. Not him, Jackia, look for another horse' Sarai said.

" But I never said anything about winning the race, so definitely this old boy here is good for us " I said as I smirked.

"You can't possibly be thinking that way, I am not in support of you making us look so weak every single time ". Sarai said as she growled

But she was right. I still didn't want to win, the whole game was baseless to me.

The old boy was taken away from me as Layla came forward and claimed her right over him. She insisted it was the horse she wanted for her race,I couldn't bring myself to comprehend her. I made my way to look for the next horse to ride.

Only to find a weaker horse, I guess this will do. Sarai was more than angry that I picked such a horse that would definitely make us lose the race. I rode on the horse to the starting line. The alpha was already in his wolf form, he was as big as me but a very fine white wolf.

But I was a silver fluffy wolf which really made me look more like a big dog rather than a werewolf but I loved my wolf nevertheless.

I went out without hesitation and I rode the horse down to the starting line .

Then his Beta called our attention as we got ready to start the game in no time. We started the race when we heard the sound of the drum. What else can be done if not to run? I was used to this kind of game. I kicked the horse as he ran through the field .

It was like we were all running for our lives, some of the maidens could not run a mile, talkless of running through the woods jumping through hurdles and getting to the finish line before a wolf and not just any wolf the alpha himself.

It would be a hard one as we made our way through the field, Tasha was the first one to fall off her horse, as her horse could sense the fear in her. The first failure, never let your horse sense your fear as they feed on it.

They want to know the person riding them was in charge of them. Then there were some factors that could enhance the performance of the horse. Your ability to control the horse's direction and guide it over distractions and objects kept on the track to intentionally keep it slow.

It was like it had been programmed for every huddle, we had to jump over some poles, as we ran straight for the woods, we were to touch the edge of the river as some guards had been placed at the river side .

The river was rumoured to lead into the underworld, it was an old folklore that had lived thousands of years even though this is the third generation no one has been able to see the end of the river. I looked around and noticed it was just me and Layla that were left in the race.

She wasn't just strong for a lady coming from one of the nobel families, but she was definitely skillful and one could say she would be one to keep the challenge going. A high wood was placed before we got to the river, I didn't know when I jumped right over it.

I turned back to see an angry looking layla, she was not only pissed off but also cursing at me. I had no control over the horse at that moment, it went on its own accord till I could see the tail of the alpha's wolf who ran through the woods with a lot of grace .

I guess he must have heard the sound of my horse as he stopped on its track to look back, only to see me and the white horse making our way down towards him. He sped up, making the horse also increase its pace.

The horse made its way down beside the alpha. It ran as fast as he could. As we appeared before thousands of people were already gathered back on the field, one could see the shock in their eyes as they screamed my name .

I couldn't believe I could run right beside the alpha who looked frustrated. At the end of the race, we made our way back into the palace and got prepared for the ritual of swearing in for tonight.
