The Book of Arcana: Black blade

Even in the modern world, there are monsters that lurk in the dark, monsters that walk among us, and monsters that even control us. Only the knights and paladins protect us against such monsters. This is the story of Theo and his journey of becoming one of such protectors.

Chapter 5

Locking positions with Jakob, Bo was calculating the scenario in his head. Honestly, he wasn't sure anymore.

Jakob pushed him away, creating a bit of distance, he was not going to loose to a rookie. Calming his breathing, he went in for another attack. Bo was having none of it.

Leaping back, he started spinning his chain. Both spinning at speeds that were hard to keep up, he controlled them with such precision and control it was somewhat... beautiful.

Launching the blades simultaneously at Jakob, he was not holding back anymore.

Seeing the blades coming at full force, Jakob punched the first one and grabbed the other. Attempting to pull, Bo didn't budge.

With the shock on his face, Bo pulled the chain, also no budge.

Jakob simply let go.

Bo blinked, and whipped the chain, retrieving the blade to himself.

'That was awkward.'

Readying himself again, begun spinning the chain again, this time dashing forward, he swung the cleaver at Jakob's head, and the other one at his side.

Blocking the first blade with the brass knuckles, Jakob side stepped the second one. He stepped forward to deliver a blow. Bo quickly retracted his cleaver, and blocked the blow.

Shifting his wrist a little the blow connected with Bo's abdomen. Knocking Bo off footing, he landed another one on his ribs.

He stumbled backwards, not allowing himself to fall.

Bo got very serious.

Throwing out his chain again, he wrapped it around Jakob's hand. Instinctively Jakob pulled.

Eureka.

Bo moved so fast Jakob couldn't track him. He aimed for Jakob's head, attempting a heavy blow. Jakob seeing this avoided the blow.

He fell for the trap. Bo's free blade went straight for Jakob's skull. Jakob couldn't dodge. He could block it, but his brass knuckles were too thin.

With no other choice, he put his hands in front of his face.

*Clank*

Bo's blade hit metal. Pushing himself away, Bo was cautious, especially now that Jakob's hand seemed to be covered with a gauntlet.

It was white, with golden rims and edges. It also had a faint glow. The higher knights gasped.

It was his Holy armour. Well, part of it.

"I actually can't believe you made me pull this out". crouching down a bit he said, "might as well finish this.

"It's over for that boy." a paladin said. She had blonde hair, and kinda looked like blondie.

"Jakob has one of the strongest armour among all of us. Especially his gauntlet. It'll snap the kid like a twig."

Blasting off at lightening quick speed, Jakob delivered the first blow. Bo attempted to Bock it with his blade, but it was shattered like glass.

Another blow broke his ribs. But bo didn't back down either, he squared up for anote_ aand he was going horizontal.

Bo collapsed on the floor and was loosing consciousness. He was far spent, and his muscle ached. "How, you only hit me like two or three times", Bo squealed.

Squatting next to Bo, Jakob replied, "I hit your vital organs and a few pressure points. You'll be out in about three seconds". And he was.

But closing his eyes, Bo saw something.

He was in a cave, and there was a dragon approaching him. "My successor awakes." the dragon said. At that moment, the dragon engulfed him with it's flames.

Jakob was walking away, when a column of fire rose up from Bo's body. It was so bright and hot, the paladins felt it all the way from their booth.

The column faded as quickly as it came. In its wake was Bo. His hair grew again, and it looked like it was glowing.

Bo got up, calm as a breeze, he tore the chains that wrapped around his hands. His body was moving autonomously, and his aura was hot but at the same time, really calm.

One moment Bo was a few metres in front of him, the next second Jakob was in the air. Before he could land, Bo grabbed him by the ankle and slammed him on the ground.

Coughing out blood, Jakob was bewildered. He definitely didn't expect to be treated like a ragdoll, and by a rookie no less.

The other rookies were dumbstruck, no one would expect such power from a rookie. The paladins seemed unfazed though, like they expected something like this to happen. Theo was left wondering what the heck happened to Bo. His best friend went from master to monster in seconds.

Bo went in for a little ground n' pound. Jakob had no choice but to cover his vitals from Bo's vicious attacks. His power was almost at the level of the paladins. ALMOST.

A blow came from nowhere connecting to Bo's temple. That pushed him away. Jakob attacked again, this time far surpassing Bo's eyes. That didn't mean Bo didn't know what he was aiming for. Meeting Jakob's punch with his own, a crack rang out, but he was still firm with his punch.

That show left the paladins and higher knights in an epic state of shock.

Biting down hard, Bo dished out his own blow. The exchange of blows were so fast, a lot of people couldn't track.

"That boy is a monster." a high knight commented.

"He definitely is." another paladin replied. 'He's definitely different'.

********

Bo was running out of time, and fast. His new found strength was not gonna last forever. And he could already feel the sluggishness creeping in.

His body was on fire, his mind, awfully blank. His heart was racing, and his muscles ached. He was losing it, but he felt great either way.

Gathering the new found flame at the base of his throat, he released it in a fiery breath.

Jumping out of the way, Jakob dashed behind him and grabbed his hair. Pulling Bo down, Jakob smashed him into the floor.

Bo didn't get up. The glow that radiated from his hair, faded. He was unconscious.

Some hooded figures came and carried him out on a stretcher. That was it.

"I guess I should probably go that way too." Jakob said, limping away.

Walking into the centre of the arena was Blondie. "The next fight would be Matthew Dane, and whoever he wishes to fight."

Matt strutted to the centre of the arena, his expression tight and unmoving. He pointed at the only lady in the booth.

'He thinks she's an easy target. What an asshole.'

'Sexist fuck.'

'Great, another coward.'

Those were the thoughts that flooded those that didn't know who the woman was. Walking down through the stairs with such elegance, you wouldn't believe she was a paladin.

She was battle ready though. She wore tight leather pants that showed off her curves. She wore a plain black top and leather boots. She was beautiful, and blond... she looked a lot like blondie. Too alike in fact.

Matt removed his daggers from the sheath, and stepped forward. He bowed respectfully, and assumed a stance.

Assuming a stance of her own, she said "I'm Luna. I thought it would be appropriate to introduce ourselves". Matt didn't utter a word, he just shrugged.

"You may begin!", at the sound of that, Matt dashed forward. He attempted a stab to her abdomen, but she parried it with a blade she conjured from thin air. The next attack was swift and efficient. Pushing Luna away with his left forearm, he twisted his wrist made a cut to her thigh.

That was all he kept doing, creating space and making small cuts. This annoyed Luna immensely. She made an attack of her own, stabbing his chest. Matt sidestepped it, and caught her arm.

Her hand moved so fast, it was like it fazed out of his hand. A punch landed in his jaw, rebooting his brain.

"I'm bored." she said.

She morphed the daggers in her hands into spears, and threw them at Matt. Seeing the spears, he struck at them mid air to stop them from reaching him.

With a frown, she conjured more spears, but these ones were strange. They hung in the air. They were a lot of them.

Stretching her hands towards Matt, the spears obeyed. They tore through the air with lightening quick speed. It didn't faze Matt though. He slashed every single one of them before they got to him.

Matt's movement was quick and very fluid for his size. He sustained a few scratches here and there, but he was alright. It was almost like he knew were the spears were going.

Luna conjured up even more spears and chucked 'em at Matt. He was fast, but he couldn't keep up with all of them. Some impaled his thigh, one hit his shoulder, and another one through his pecs.

He was bleeding, but he didn't go down. He pulled them out, and continued to march forward.

She kept sending more, and he kept getting impaled. The last one went went straight through his chest.

Lights out.

'I see it now' he thought.

"I'm bored" Luna said.

As Luna morphed the daggers in her hands into spears, Matt rushed in before she could finish. He grabbed her hands, and struck her abdomen with his knee.

Gasping, Luna tried to create space, surprise motherfucker, Matt was behind her. He karate chopped the back of her neck. She switched up to a heel kick, 'I'm in the air!'. A hand wrapped around her ankle, as she was slammed into the ground.

"It's like he knows what she's gonna do". A paladin said.

"That's cause he does" a high knight added. "He's a Dane. Their family comes from a line of seers".

"Then that means he... can see the future"

Matt's eyes glowed a bright green as he grinned.
