Professor Clement was not surprised when Aiden came to see him in his office after the next lecture on the Origin of Vampires ended.
"Are you surprised when I sent out the proposal?" the professor asked him in a friendly manner.
Aiden shook his head.
"Maybe I am just overthinking it, but I feel that you did it to help me out."
The elder vampire cackled. He walked around his desk and patted Aiden on the shoulder.
"Bravo. Aiden, you are a perceptive young man who is trapped in an unhappy marriage. I merely wanted to give you a chance to walk out."
"What is going to happen to me if I do not want to choose anyone?"
"Do you wish to stay alone?"
Aiden's eyelashes fluttered slightly in response.
"Yes. Right now, I have a lot of issues to handle. I have a coven to lead, a ranch to build, and a life to ponder."
"Ah, the curse of eternal life," the professor nodded in agreement. "Young vampires like you must be quite confused about how to spend the hundreds of years ahead."
