Mourning Their Losses*
Beside him his Beta Austin tore through into one of the rogues, his white teeth were stained with blood.
Wolf after wolf dropped dead to the ground in Austin's wake, they were bleeding out from the amount of bites Austin imposed on them.
Noah beamed in pride as he saw his pack tearing into the enemies, they were winning the fight until he felt a pain like no other lacing through his heart, he fell to his knees and cried out in pain.
Something had happened to his family, he thought frantically.
As the Luna, Evelyn was meant to show strength and gentleness to her pack, Everytime Every member of the pack was in trouble, especially the women, they ran to her for answers and she always found a solution to the problem.
But not today.
The safe house was a bit far from the main house, they had to go through a secret pathway before reaching the house.
She held Sheila's hand as they ran together, she didn't bother much about Richmond, he could run easily without assistance.
They entered the secret pathway, and almost reaching the middle of the way, they were ambushed by four werewolves, from the smell they were part of the rogue wolves and she knew they were in trouble.
She wanted to run back with her children but they were surrounded by the four rogues.
"Well well well! What a treat we have here," one of the rogues said as he drew closer to them, he was short but heavily built with muscles, and he wore a smile on his weasel-like face that made the woman wary of him.
Sweats and strands of hair were on her face as she stood defiantly facing the rogues, she refused to allow her fear to show and bravely stood her ground.
The man pushed the strands of hair from her face and she bit him on his finger, making sure she drew blood before he slapped her face and her face became red from the force he used in hitting her.
She cleaned the blood that came out from the cut on her lips, Sheila was whimpering in fear beside her mother.
Richmond saw the cut on his mother's face and became angry, he pounced on the man who slapped his mother and started rendering blows upon blows on him, although he wasn't a full-grown wolf he was able to stand his ground against the rogue with his long and sharp nails.
Until the man grew tired and morphed into a full wolf, he smirked when he saw the little show of fear on the young boy's face before the young boy gauged his emotion and struck to his fighting stance, the young boy wasn't really afraid of him and wasn't impressed.
The woman was already fighting the three other wolves by herself, she had already changed into her wolf form while her son was fighting the other wolf that hit her, although young and in his human form, he was cleverly dodging the attacks the rogue lunged at him.
The woman was fighting with all her strength against the three rogues, as the Luna of her pack, she was strong enough to tackle them on her own.
Little Sheila was scared, she saw her mother and her brother fighting the rogues while she stood not knowing what to do, she wasn't used to people fighting each other with such intensity.
She decided to leave for the safe house on her own when her mother used the mind link to tell her to leave.
Suddenly, one of the wolves her mother was fighting with came and blocked the way, preventing her from leaving.
He snarled at her, showing his sharp teeth, the wolf was happy as he smelt the fear coming from the little girl, they were given the order to kill only the Luna but he thought the girl was a better treat than the mother.
He slowly walked to the little girl savoring the fear that the girl showed, Sheila was whimpering and cowering in fear.
The woman wasn't looking at her daughter, she was still fighting with the two wolves and just managed to tear into one of them, the wolf fell to the ground as blood oozed from his injury.
The wolf facing the little girl saw his fellow mate on the floor bleeding, and lunged at the girl, the girl screamed as she fell to the ground with the wolf on top of her tearing into her throat.
The woman heard the scream of the little girl, and she quickly tore into the throat of the rogue she was fighting immediately she saw an opening and the wolf fell to the ground in his pool of blood.
She watched as she saw a rogue already chewing on her daughter's throat and felt repulsed and very angry, she slammed into the wolf in full force, the mouth of the wolf was stained with the blood of her daughter and she was angry and wanted his blood to paint the ground.
Richmond was still dodging the man's attack, every time he dodged the man's attack he scratched the man on the body but since the man was covered in furs, his scratches did nothing but infuriate the man, the man became angrier and less steady.
He was not thinking again as his mind was in a rage and randomly lunged at Richmond.
Richmond smirked as he saw the man was no longer mindful of himself, he saw an opening, the throat of the man had less furs and was vulnerable.
He lunged towards the man and used his nails to cut through the man's throat and blood spilled from the neck and flowed to the ground, the wolf fell to the ground, motionless
Richmond was not used to killing, he used to train with his father and learned most of the skills from his father, he was proud of himself and felt accomplished on his first kill.
But his celebration didn't last for long as he saw his sister on the floor, lifeless, her eyes were opened wide, staring at nothing, and some parts of her neck were missing.
He saw his mother fighting the remaining rogue and wanted to help her, he was feeling weak and felt his strength fading, he had used most of his strength in fighting the rogue, and fighting the rogue as experienced as that wasn't an easy task.
The woman was already tired from fighting with the two rogues, they were all strong but she managed to defeat them, now she was getting tired while the remaining rogue in front of her was still strong and full of energy.
His teeth were stained with the blood of her daughter.
She knew she couldn't last long, she tried to mindlink with her mate but she knew he was fighting with other rogues and wouldn't be able to get to them in time.
She felt pain that made her groan as the rogue tore into her leg, she tried to bite him with her teeth when he attacked her from the back and head-butt into her belly, making her fall to the ground but before she could get up, he tore into her neck.
She changed to her human form and could feel her life force draining away but before she closed her eyes in final rest, she saw her son tearing into the rogue's belly with his sharp nails before tearing into his throat.
She forced herself to remain alive using her Luna powers, she knew she was going to die but she was trying to delay the inevitable.
She smiled at her son as he laid her on his lap telling her not to die, she was losing too much blood.
She couldn't speak but she used the mind link to talk to her son, "I love you Richmond, I and your sister are going to rest now, don't be sad, we will always be in your heart," her voice fading away as she closed her eyes in finality.
Richmond couldn't move away, dead bodies filled the entire path, he couldn't cry, it felt like all the tears in his body had dried away leaving only emptiness and a void, a very dark void.
He had killed the man who killed his mother and his sister yet he couldn't feel satisfied.
He stayed there motionless as the cold dripped through his skin but he didn't feel it, he was there like that, not feeling anything and not seeing anything, just darkness.
He inhaled the cold air into his nostrils and looked down at his mother before kissing her on the cheeks one last time, knowing he was never going to hold her like this again, forever.
Noah came to the pathway after sniffing, he saw the scene, he saw Richmond holding his wife as she lay lifeless in his arms.
He also saw the lifeless bodies of the four rogues, his beloved daughter in the pool of her blood, lying lifeless, the state of her body was not something any father would wish to see for their child.
"Sheila!" He called her name softly, the wind taking the name from his lips, tears clogging his throat as he walked up to his precious daughter's body ignoring the blood around her and seeing only the smile that she wore on her face when she was happy, his little girl.
He sat beside her body, he held her cold hand as he took it close to his cheek, "Sheila! I'm sorry, papa wasn't able to protect you as he should," All he wanted to do was cry at the loss of his family but Alphas were not supposed to show weakness and crying is frowned upon.
He closed her eyes and took up Sheila's body in his arms, stood up, and dropped her beside his wife's body, Mother and daughter looked so peaceful, it was as if they were just sleeping.
The man saw the blood that stained the nails of his son and knew instinctively that his son had had his first kill tonight, it was something to celebrate but not today.
His son didn't cry at all but had a hollow look in his eyes that almost got the Alpha scared but he wasn't surprised Richmond had always been a child that didn't show much emotions and seeing his mother dying in front of him, he didn't know how to feel.
He wrapped his arms around his son, his son stiffened his body at first not welcoming the contact, he didn't want to be comforted at all before he realized and he relaxed into the embrace, accepting that his father was not only giving him comfort but vice versa.
The family of two that were four originally, mourned their loss silently under the dark sky.
