The Archivist's Ploy: A Tale of One Against The World

Far above the horizon, beyond the clouds and the apocalyptic storms under it, hovered a yellow-haired old-looking man. His yellow eyes gave off a bright radiance, and countless books floated around him. Throughout history, the man was known by many names, (The Watcher - The Chronicler - The Historian - The Custodian - The Recordkeeper) But during this Era, he was known as The Archivist. The Archivist's perception inspected thousands of kilometers far and wide, Yet 'Nothing interesting is happening' His frustration grew 'What's the point of a worldwide perception if there's no apposite change to perceive?' 'The world has become mundane' 'And no one is doing anything about it' Ergo, The Archivist will take matters into his own hands 'I'll orchestrate a worldwide, All-embracing scheme against an oblivious individual' With a sinister smile on his face, he devised his plan 'Turn the entire world into a person's antagonist, Then enjoy the show' And he had the perfect plot for it 'First, Utter Despair that would cause immense Pain' 'Then, More Despair that would turn the Pain to Loathe' 'Then, As the Loathe grows, The Despair will transform into Rage' 'The Rage will make the Being Crave Revenge, and the intense Crave will result in Devotion to his goal' 'Finally, The Despair, Pain, Loathe, Crave, and Devotion will all be used as fuel for the Rage, Transforming it into an even extremer emotion' "WRATH" How would a single person unleash his Wrath against the entire world? 'That's what I'm going to find out' "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" The Archivist's maniacal laughter echoed loudly 'The world is about to be entertaining' He looked up and asked with a reverberating, Bleak voice "Who will be the unlucky one?"

The Smartest in The Room

Two days later, inside the Guild

Lisa, (The Guild's receptionist and Ishaan's personal secretary), was reading a piece of paper with a serious expression on her face.

'Ishaan would definitely want to know about this'

After she was done reading she turned around and looked at a closed door behind her, on the door there was a sign that read

(Ishaan, The Guild's Deputy Master)

She walked forward and knocked three times on the door then opened it and entered.

Inside the office, a red-haired man was sitting behind a desk, in front of him there was a plate that had hot toast and a milk tea mug beside it.

The man was eating a piece of toast and reading a newspaper while occasionally taking sips from his mug.

The man was wearing a red robe and had an emblem on his chest, the Emblem had a bright red flame on it.

Almost everyone in the city knew this Emblem and what it meant.

He belonged to the ruling family, a real Inferno.

When the man saw Lisa entering and closing the door behind her he just looked at her with disinterest and said in a bored tone.

"Come after I finish my breakfast"

She held the piece of paper up and said

"Sir Ishaan, it's important"

Ishaan tilted his head a bit, it's very rare when Lisa insists on something

"Is it important enough to warrant interrupting my breakfast?"

Lisa nodded with disdain

'Like your breakfast is such an important event huh'

Lisa didn't harbor any dislike for Ishaan; in fact, she quite liked him.

However, she found his slightly egoistic nature amusing, and from time to time, she enjoyed poking fun at it in her mind.

Regardless, she didn't voice out her thoughts and said

"Yes, very important"

He helplessly sighed and put the toast and the newspaper done

"This better be worth making my tea cold."

Then he extended his hand forward

Lisa gave him the piece of paper which he began reading

(Dear Deputy Master Ishaan Inferno,

I am writing as Elite Knight Blaze Inferno to formally request the transportation of personal identification and the Guild Membership documents to the Guild headquarters in the Capital.)

When Ishaan read that, he sneered and spoke mockingly

"Hmph, Fool. Does he think that every idiot who became an Elite will have a place in the Capital? I bet that he will come back running to us in less than a month, at max 3 months, after he loses all the money he has of course."

He looked at Lisa, but to his surprise, she wasn't laughing and her expression was still serious

'What a mood-killing face this one has ...'

He asked evenly

"Why is this important anyway?"

Lisa narrowed her eyes

'This fool forgot everything already? Wait, did he even read yesterday's reports?'

Lisa came to the desk and looked at the pile of papers on it.

Sure enough, the reports she put here yesterday didn't move an inch from their spot, Lisa, once again, became annoyed.

But she never let it show in her tone.

"Sir, did you not read anything of the reports I sent?"

"What did you send?"

Lisa sighed

She pushed everything away and emptied some space in front of Ishaan, then placed another three reports right in front of him, beside the first one.

Ishaan began reading all the headlines

(Elite Knight Blaze requests to move his Guild Membership to the Capital)

He already read this one, so he just looked at the next two

(Elite Knight Blaze requested an open, unpaid leave from the Military)

(Elite Knight Blaze puts up his house for sale)

(The Librarian sent a formal letter announcing that he will leave the city in the next few days, the leave's Duration is still unclear)

Gradually, as he started reading the details of each report, his expression became solemn

"Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

Lisa rolled her eyes and

"The reports have been on your desk since yesterday, SIRRRRR. On top of that, the last report came just now."

But Ishann wasn't focusing on what she was saying, he was thinking about other things right now

'Clearly, there's a connection ... could it be?'

'No way, right? ... Is Arno really willing to take that child to the Capital on his own? It could just be a trick from Arno ... I have to see for myself.'

For a while, Ishaan sat and thought about what he should do.

'I could go to Arno right now, but what should I ask him? Of course, it will reveal the fact that I was keeping an eye on Blaze .. but that doesn't matter.

Actually, that's good because then he'll realize that I was a step ahead of him all the time ahaha, he will know who really is smarter ...'

Ishaan scratched his chin in thought

'I can contact the child directly and try to flip him on Arno, but I do not know the depth of the relationship between him and Arno ...'

'Right now, I have the initiative, wouldn't it be dumb to just put it in the hands of a child?'

He concluded

'Going directly to the child is off the table, either I go to discuss with Grandpa or go to Arno.'

Ishaan wanted to go to Arno first.

'If I finish everything on my own, then Grandpa will realize how valuable and smart I am'

But there was a problem with that

'I do not have anything at all to give to Arno ...

I mean sure, there's the Guild and my personal wealth, but Arno wouldn't be interested in any of that.'

The bitter reality is that Arno is a better Mage and a far richer one than Ishaan ...

Ishaan sighed

'It can't be helped, at least I got the information, I have to discuss with Grandpa what to do first'

Ishan picked up the second and the third reports and set them on fire, turning both to ash.

These reports were top secret, he shouldn't have received them in the first place, but he used his connections to keep an eye on Blaze, in case anything out of the ordinary happened.

'Doing that two years ago certainly paid off now ... if I'd have noticed too late, then Arno would've been a step ahead, I truly am shrewd'

He quickly erased the smirk that appeared on his face and spoke to Lisa before leaving

"I have got things to do, take care of the office"

Then he left.

Lisa was left alone in the office.

'I gotta take care of the office, otherwise it'll run away.'

She sat on Ishaan's seat and picked up the mug

'Damn! That idiot took too long to think and the milk tea became cold'

She put the mug down and took a bite from the toast

'The toast is tasty tho'

She put her legs on the table

'This office suits me better.'
