The Archivist's Ploy: A Tale of One Against The World

Far above the horizon, beyond the clouds and the apocalyptic storms under it, hovered a yellow-haired old-looking man. His yellow eyes gave off a bright radiance, and countless books floated around him. Throughout history, the man was known by many names, (The Watcher - The Chronicler - The Historian - The Custodian - The Recordkeeper) But during this Era, he was known as The Archivist. The Archivist's perception inspected thousands of kilometers far and wide, Yet 'Nothing interesting is happening' His frustration grew 'What's the point of a worldwide perception if there's no apposite change to perceive?' 'The world has become mundane' 'And no one is doing anything about it' Ergo, The Archivist will take matters into his own hands 'I'll orchestrate a worldwide, All-embracing scheme against an oblivious individual' With a sinister smile on his face, he devised his plan 'Turn the entire world into a person's antagonist, Then enjoy the show' And he had the perfect plot for it 'First, Utter Despair that would cause immense Pain' 'Then, More Despair that would turn the Pain to Loathe' 'Then, As the Loathe grows, The Despair will transform into Rage' 'The Rage will make the Being Crave Revenge, and the intense Crave will result in Devotion to his goal' 'Finally, The Despair, Pain, Loathe, Crave, and Devotion will all be used as fuel for the Rage, Transforming it into an even extremer emotion' "WRATH" How would a single person unleash his Wrath against the entire world? 'That's what I'm going to find out' "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" The Archivist's maniacal laughter echoed loudly 'The world is about to be entertaining' He looked up and asked with a reverberating, Bleak voice "Who will be the unlucky one?"

The Ground Floor

Leus picked up the letter he received a couple of days ago

(Forced Duel

1000 Points

Date: 00:00:54)

'It's about time, Less than an hour is left'

Leus wore the robe and then left his room.

'Halsten asked to meet on the ground floor'

'Apparently, there's a cafeteria there'

Leus made his way to the ground floor and walked out of the elevator.

Instead of walking out of the Mansion Leus went deeper inside.

'This is the first time I enter this floor'

The floor was impressive, to say the least.

There were all sorts of facilities.

On the right side, there was a cafeteria where many people gathered, workers and residents alike.

On the left side, there were various stores, weapons, magical items, clothes, utility items, and all sorts of things.

'That's an interesting one'

A specific weapon caught Leus' interest

It was a humongous, Black Scythe that was at least 150 centimeters long

'I wonder who can use that, it's too big to be efficient'

Still, it looked interesting, it had a strange black glow.

Leus looked around him and something else caught his interest.

On the southern wall, there were multiple whiteboards.

He walked toward them and began reading what was written.

The first board was the (Points Board), written on it was the number of Points each resident had

'So many people ... Wow'

There were a little more than 200 names in total

'what the hell? How are there more than 200 names? there's no way the 9th floor has 200 rooms, right?'

Leus wasn't sure if that list included the workers as well or not

'It's too little to include everyone in the mansion, but too big to include only the people on the 9th and the 10th floor ...'

'Well, whatever'

Ultimately, it didn't really matter.

He looked at the very top of the list, and it was easy to guess whose name was there

The Moonlight Princess was at the very top with 73,100 Points

The second person on the list had 62,000 Points

'She's in a league of her own'

While the difference might not seem that big, one had to remember that The Moonlight Princess was a non-affiliated.

This means that all the 73,000 Points are hers, while the second person's Points were probably like Halsten's, a combination of his own Points and his Faction's Points

'Assuming that the average number of members of a Faction is like ours, 6 or 7, this means that the second person only has 10000 Points or so for himself'

'This means that the Moonlight Princess has around 7x the number of Points of the person right below her ... insane'

After Leus was done with his calculations, he searched for Halsten's name.

He quickly found it

'Not bad'

Halsten was among the top 25% with 17,400 Points

'I think he said that the Faction has 12,000 ... this means that he has 5,000 Points alone ... Interesting'

'That's actually pretty good, if he wins a 5000 points duel then he'd have the same amount of Points as the second on the list'

'Looks like Halsten is something among the Elites'

Leus searched for his name and surprisingly, it wasn't the last

'There are actually people lower than 0'

His name was on the top of the last 10%

The very last person had exactly -4900 Points

'He probably had -5000, but then he got his monthly 100 and that made it go down to ... no, go up to -4900'

An evil idea came to Leus' mind

'Wouldn't it be funny if I challenged this guy to a Forced Duel and got him expelled?'

Luckily for whoever that was, Leus wasn't interested in doing such things

'Yet'

Leus stopped looking at the (Points Board) and looked at the one next to it

(Missions Board)

'Let's check it out'

The Board had a list of missions, Each mission had the number of Points its completion would grant beside it

The board had some guidelines written in red color on the top of it

(1- The points acquired through missions are non-convertible into monetary currency.

2- Should an individual undertake a guild mission, they must refrain from claiming the guild's reward in order to receive the allotted points.

3- Points will be awarded only when an individual's balance is above 0.

Positive Points can only be obtained by individuals who possess a negative points balance.)

'The first two are probably to prevent some exploitation'

'The last one is really good for poor folks with negative points'

Leus began reading the missions

'Eliminate Water Foxes: 100 Points 200 Positive Points'

As soon as Leus read that, He remembered the Missions he accepted from the Guild years ago

'It was Water Foxes as well! and it gave a couple of silvers'

'Ten points equal 1 gold, so that's why it can't be transformed into Money'

'I wonder why this city hates Water Foxes so much, they were cute really, thanks to them, I discovered my Affinity'

'Eliminate Ice Mammoth: 200 Points or 400 Positive Points

Eliminate Green Eagles: 200 Points or 400 Positive Points

Catch (Living) Young Fire Stallions: 200 Points or 400 Positive Points'

There were many more Beast missions but Leus stopped reading them and read the Mansion-exclusive missions

(Discover/Train a worthy Talent: 2500 Points

Discover/Convince a Light Affinity Soldier/Mage: 5,000 Points

Catch/Kill Dynasty Spies: 15,000/10,000 Points

Catch/Kill Vice Kingdom's (Green) Spies: 15,000/10,000 Points

Note: Every individual brought will go through tests to be accepted in the Mansion)

'They really need Light Affinity people huh ... and why are they calling Vice Kingdom's spies Green? Do they not have spies of other Affinities?'

'I wonder what would happen if a poor soul was born in this city with a Wind Affinity'

'Anyway, the missions seem really interesting ... I might go kill some Beasts soon, maybe it'll be fun?'

As soon as Leus thought about that he felt a sinister smile come from deep down within him.

He could sense that Diablo was extremely happy with that idea.

Leus was intrigued, so he asked

'What? You want to kill beasts?'

He sensed a strong assertion as a response

'Damn, I might have to drop the idea then'

Before Diablo could respond, Leus pushed him further down and went back to what he was doing.

The last board was the (Duel Board)

It gave information about every duel's date and participants

Leus looked at the board, and that's when things got weird

OK, so let's get to the point.

It's the classic excuse "I lost passion" but it's not just that ...

I'm going through a rough period (Emotionally + Financially) + I had exams (College).

But let's be honest, none of this matters to you, right? Lol!

About the future huh ....

Honestly, I'm not sure.

I don't know if I'll get back to writing (or if I will have the privilege to do so), and I'm not sure if I'll ever finish this novel.

However, I do have 100+ unreleased chaps left, so I think I'll just pop every now and then and drop an update, cool?

Life is rough, guys, sorry ...
