The Archivist's Ploy: A Tale of One Against The World

Far above the horizon, beyond the clouds and the apocalyptic storms under it, hovered a yellow-haired old-looking man. His yellow eyes gave off a bright radiance, and countless books floated around him. Throughout history, the man was known by many names, (The Watcher - The Chronicler - The Historian - The Custodian - The Recordkeeper) But during this Era, he was known as The Archivist. The Archivist's perception inspected thousands of kilometers far and wide, Yet 'Nothing interesting is happening' His frustration grew 'What's the point of a worldwide perception if there's no apposite change to perceive?' 'The world has become mundane' 'And no one is doing anything about it' Ergo, The Archivist will take matters into his own hands 'I'll orchestrate a worldwide, All-embracing scheme against an oblivious individual' With a sinister smile on his face, he devised his plan 'Turn the entire world into a person's antagonist, Then enjoy the show' And he had the perfect plot for it 'First, Utter Despair that would cause immense Pain' 'Then, More Despair that would turn the Pain to Loathe' 'Then, As the Loathe grows, The Despair will transform into Rage' 'The Rage will make the Being Crave Revenge, and the intense Crave will result in Devotion to his goal' 'Finally, The Despair, Pain, Loathe, Crave, and Devotion will all be used as fuel for the Rage, Transforming it into an even extremer emotion' "WRATH" How would a single person unleash his Wrath against the entire world? 'That's what I'm going to find out' "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" The Archivist's maniacal laughter echoed loudly 'The world is about to be entertaining' He looked up and asked with a reverberating, Bleak voice "Who will be the unlucky one?"

Bored

Leus went back to his room and took a shower then laid down on the bed.

'That was a long day'

He looked at the glass wall

'It's already night...'

Nuri came to his mind

'Should I go to her?'

He turned around to lie down on his side and yawned.

'Maybe she's asleep or maybe she's still upset, I'll do it later'

In all honesty, Leus didn't really care about Nuri.

'But it just feels a bit bad that she was approaching me even after I was rude to her and then things ended up like that'

His conscience was bothering him a bit.

'Fine fine, I'll do something about her later'

He made the room dark then depleted his Mana Pool and slept.

The next day, after Leus got up and freshened up, he went to check his mailbox.

'Maybe I got a tutor'

He opened the mailbox

'... Nothing'

It was empty

Leus sighed

'Guess I have to wait'

He tried to pass the time by doing random things like staying in the Jacuzzi, eating, and training ... But

'Time is passing slowly, Ughhh'

Every few minutes, Leus would go and check his empty mailbox, only to get disappointed and go back to find something to do.

Leus suffered from agonizing boredom until evening, then he decided to go to Nuri's room

'At least I'll get something useful done instead of just waiting'

He knocked on her door and a maid quickly opened it

"I'll call the Young Miss" The maid said when she saw Leus

"Thank you" Leus replied

Nuri was wearing a pink tank top and black leggings, she came out with her arms crossed and a very solemn expression on her face.

"What is it that you want?"

Leus spoke neutrally

"I didn't mean to offend you yesterday"

"Whatever"

"Well, I'm sorry if you got offended"

"I don't think we can be friends anymore"

Leus was confused

'When did we even become friends? I barely know your name'

But he didn't say that loudly and just nodded

"I understand how you feel, I wish you the best"

Then he turned around and left.

Nuri bit on her lip then went inside and told the maid to close the door, she didn't like how Leus didn't address the issue or properly apologize.

Sure, what he did was better than doing nothing, but she still didn't feel like she wanted to talk to him.

'I don't think he fits in the Faction anyway.'

For now at least, she decided to stay away from him.

Leus went back to his room and checked his mailbox, but it was still empty

"Ahh" He loudly sighed then walked to the Barrier and activated it

'I need to distract my mind for a while'

He silently cast the Vapour spell that Ignatius gave him 10 times

'It barely costs any Mana'

Within seconds, the barrier became cloudy and full of smoke which instantly improved Leus' mood.

'Vapour is beautiful'

He closed his eyes and focused on the Vapour Mana around him.

Leus felt as if there was an invisible connection between him and the Vapour around him.

'As if every single fraction of Vapour Mana is connected to me through invisible threads or something like that'

He focused on the string-like connection in his head and tried to manipulate the smoke.

Time passed like that.

Leus kept trying to pull, push, or twist the strings in any way possible, but the results were disappointing.

'I don't even have the slightest control over it ...'

Leus stopped focusing on the strings and focused on the Vapour itself.

After a while of inspecting the Vapour, Leus noticed something interesting

'... Strange'

He opened his eyes, looked at the Vapour around him, and began thinking about how the Vapour made him feel.

'When I'm not focusing at all, and just being surrounded by the smoke, I feel a sense of belonging, like a kinship of sorts'

But

'When I actually begin to focus on the properties of the smoke, the Vapour Mana itself, my perception of it changes drastically'

He waved his hands in the air

'Bland, transparent and colourless'

'It's almost lifeless, as if ...'

'Something is missing'

'But what is missing? It's just Vapour Mana ... what could be missing about it?'

It didn't make sense, But Leus trusted his intuition

'Maybe it's missing another element?'

On his right palm, he summoned a Fireball

On his left palm, he summoned a Bubble of water

He deeply inspected the Vapour mana surrounding both the Fireball and the Bubble

Then he sighed

'No change ...'

This situation reminded him of when he first tried to merge two Elements.

A couple of years ago:

'I was summoning Daggers, then tried to make it burn, so I added the spell Flame on top of it'

The results of that were the exact same as what's happening right now.

'The spells don't mix nor interact in any meaningful way, it's like water and oil, never mixing despite being in the same bottle'

He tried to find a solution for some minutes, but nothing useful came up.

'I remember Arno saying something about it being the difference between Second Tier Spells and Third Tier Spells, so if I want Vapour to mix with another element I need to create a Third Tier Vapour Spell ... '

Naturally, Leus didn't even know how to create a First Tier Spell, let alone a Third Tier one.

'It'd probably cost a ridiculous sum of Points if I was to follow the normal way.

But I can contact Sebastian and send a message to the Duke, I think he might help me with it, I doubt anyone else can anyway.'

The only problem was

'It'd be pointless. It's not like I'm lacking spells or something, sure, I'd know of more spells, but then what? I don't see any way that could help me with my goal right now.'

'I need to stop deviating from my track and focus on unlocking my Skill'

That's why

'I need a Tutor ... where are those idiots?'

Leus deactivated the Barrier and went to check his mailbox
