The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

Maybe it was tracking my mana. I dispersed my mana to the air around me. Drawing both rods away from my body in the process. I grabbed them with my free hands before drawing my mana back within myself as I did. Slamming them both together.

They bent, and exploded in my face. The shrapnel bounced off my scales, and the flames bent around me. I diverted the flames away from my bonded. My eyes turned downward as soon as the flames cleared me.

"Let go," My cold blue eye rested on my bonded with barely contained rage.

"What?" Jax barely managed to get out before I fell backward.

Ethan let go willingly. Jax only let go because Ethan yanked him free. I started shrinking as soon as they were clear of me. Slowly taking on my half dragon form as I dove toward my bonded. Grabbing one in each arm, and pinning them close to my chest.

I caught a third magic seeking projectile with my tail on the way down toward the ground. Fear flashed through the crowd of soldiers below. I slammed into the ground feet first with my wings flared. Setting both my bonded down gently, and letting my arms unwrap from around them. I snarled as I walked past the two of them.

"Who launched that attack?" I passed the projectile over my shoulder, and gripped it with both hands.

It shook in my grip as it tried to break free. No one answered. My grip tightened. Piercing the outer shell of the large rod looking thing before wrapping my wings around the explosion that occurred because my claws pierced the missile. Shrapnel pelleted off the inside of my membranes as flames shot past my head skyward, and through my legs behind me.

The look on their faces when my wings parted, and I was completely unharmed. These humans were stupid to have obeyed an order to attack me. I snarled at the humans around me again. Shaking the shrapnel out of my wings with a single flick of my wings. Small bits of metal hit the ground in a pitter patter similar to rain.

Raul pushed his way through the scared guild members around me.

"Eric ordered the attack," Raul shouted over the crowd as he pushed his way through, "He went over head. I would have never ordered an attack against you."

"Where is he?" I snarled.

Locking eyes with the man as I did. Raul was stunned into silence. Frozen in place by my eyes. My muscles tensed as I forced myself to blink. Mesmerizing eyes was just as useful as it was hindering.

My tail lashed as I looked through the crowd. Scanning for Eric. I was hoping to spot Eric's ugly mug. He was shoving his way toward us through the crowd. I worked my way to a completely human appearance for this conversation.

"And why would you order your people to attack an ally," I barely held back a snarl.

"I wasn't sure you were still an ally," Eric snapped, "You were out for two days, and your buddies that went to look for you never came back. It's not all that hard to believe that you would side with your kin."

Jax started laughing. Startling everyone around him except for me, and Ethan.

"You told me that he would betray you," Jax pointed at Eric, "I just didn't think he'd be so obvious about it. I guess you don't have to pretend you like him anymore now that he's actively playing dirty."

"You know what," I smiled along with Jax, "You're right."

The distance between me, and Eric vanished as I punched him in the face. It was a hard blow. Not hard enough to kill him. More then enough to throw him off his feet, and knock him cold. I snorted sparks of electricity.

"I'm not going to hold back if he's not going to at least pretend to be on my side," I turned around quickly when I sensed something on the very edge of my spatial awareness.

My eyes turning more draconic as I sensed the danger the alpha wyvern presented.

"Put him into a tent as far away from me as possible," I pointed to Eric, "Raul. I suggest you get all those guns manned. I've pissed off the alpha, and she's coming for payback."

{Savannah,} I searched for her mentally.

"Here," she was behind me.

She'd managed to get through the crowd pretty easily because most people weren't willing to approach me.

"Go sit next to Jax," I turned her so she was facing the direction Jax's was in, "I'm going to circulate my mana through you guys to amplify it, and draw it back into myself to fill my reserve as quickly as possible."

"Your not going to do that are you?" Savannah whispered.

"Not if I can help it," I answered with a slight frown.

No one was close enough to hear what Savannah had said, but my response wasn't exactly secretive. Savannah, and Jax sat down on two flat stone platforms that Jax had created just for this. I was slightly irritated that he'd wasted mana, but I didn't complain since I was currently wasting mana. I rested a hand between each of their shoulders, and helped Savannah focus. I couldn't help with Jax's mental state like I could Savannah's, but he'd done this yesterday so it was fresher on his mind.

"Raul," I shouted, "You should put Ethan in a tower. He's a powerful telekinetic. He can make sure some of your shots land."

Ethan nodded at my back before turning his attention to Raul. I didn't hear what they said to each other as I focused completely on circulating my mana through Jax, and Savannah. While they both breathed in mana it was difficult to keep under control. I kept on sucking mana from them both while still circulating my own mana through them. Trying not to overfill their bodies with mana in the process.
