Chapter 2: Exam and Results

*the next morning*

Vahn awoke the next morning with a banging headache, he felt like getting sick but he didn't want to move and the sun coming through the curtains was too bright for his eyes.

He felt the puke coming up his throat slowly so he got up and went into a door in his room, luckily it was the toilet. He went over to it and immediately started puking.

After he was done he just sat beside the toilet just in case he got sick again.

After a while Melinda entered his room and seeing that he wasn't in his bed went over to the bathroom and like she thought he was there sitting by the toilet.

She sighed she wanted to be angry, and she was, but he could do what he wanted. She just wished he was more responsible; he had to take the entrance exam today. "You okay, how are you feeling?"

"T-terrible. E-everything is t-too b-bright a-and I b-barley r-remember a-anything from yesterday." Vahn complained.

Melinda sighed again. "Here take this it'll help with the light." She handed him glasses that were darkened, sun glasses.

He nodded and put them on, although he still had a headache at least the light wasn't bothering him any more.

"Come on you've got to go to the exam today." Melinda says while extending her hand to pull vahn up.

Vahn groans but takes her hand and stands up. Melinda after that leaves telling vahn to freshen himself up, so he does.

He brushes his teeth, puts on new clothes, keeps the glasses and goes down stairs.

When he was down stairs he saw Merlin trying not to laugh, shin just eating his food excited for the exams or something and Melinda was getting a card thing ready.

After eating breakfast with Vahn not eating much in fear of throwing up again, they eventually make it to the front door before Melinda stops them.

"You didn't forget anything did you?" She asks.

Shin responds because he knew vahn wouldn't especially with the state he is in now. "I have my writing tools, my registration card, and also my own ID card!"

"Do You have all that as well vahn?" He nods. "Good. That card recognises the owner's magic pattern so nobody but the owner can activate it. It also has other functions; it's a sophisticated item. Take good care of it."

After that they walked to the school exam centre with vahn covering his ears sometimes because it didn't help with his headache.

"There's so many people…" Shin says as he and Vahn go up to the board to find their exam site.

"Hey, you. Move aside." A person behind shin says, shin doesn't listen but vahn moves to the side just in case. "Can't you hear me?! You cretin!!"

The guy touches shins shoulder, and shin flips him around so the guy's shoulder is in a painful position.

"What are you doing?! Release me!!"

"What are you doing? Don't go around casually grabbing peoples shoulders."

"How dare you?! I am Kurt Von Ritzburg!!" The rude guy says, making him seem like an important person.

And shin being a little stupid just introduces himself. "? And? Hello, I'm shin."

People nearby snicker and kurt has veins popping out all over his face.

"I am the eldest son of the Ritzburg family…!!"

Shin gets even more confused. "Yeah sure you are.."

"You think you can get away Scot-free after messing with me!!"

Shin seems to have realised what was going on. "Ah. Um, kurt was it? Using your family's influence inside the school is prohibited… or so I heard. But that's how it is, right?"

"There is no mere magic school teacher that would even dare to go against me!!"

Then a guy starts walking toward Shin and Kurt while Vahn is off to the side, kinda covering his ears as Kurt is really loud. "Stop right there." Kurt seems to recognise the voice. "Using one's family's powers to harm others in this magic school is taken as an act that disserves promising magic users. Serve punishment will be dealt to those who do it. It's not just a rule regulated by the school, it's a law established by the royal family."

Kurt turns around fear on his face. "Y-you are…!!"

The guy that was talking turns out to be a guy with blonde hair that goes down to just above his shoulders. "Or… do you dare challenge the royal family?" He had a menacing look on his face.

Now that vahn looked closer at him he looked like a younger Diseum.

"No, I wouldn't think of it!" Kurt shouts out still in fear of the person in front of him.

"Then I'd like to ask you to stop causing a scene. This is an exam venue. You'll disturb the other registrants." The blonde says.

"Y-yes.." Kurt says before glaring at Shin and going away.

"Hehe… what a funny way to introduce yourself. Just as I heard. You know little of how society works." The blonde speaks to shin.

"What?" Shin was still confused and vahn was just waiting for this guy to announce he was someone important.

"I am august von earlshide. Close friends call me aug. I've heard about you from my father, shin." And there it was the moment vahn was waiting for.

"Earlshide…? Then that means your uncle dis's son?!" Shin shouts out, making Vahn conger his ears and glare at Shin, while the other people at the exam centre were confused as to who would address the Prince in such a way.

"Hehe… 'uncle dis's son', you say… that's the first time I've been referred to as some uncle's son. Other people try to flatter me the moment they realise I am prince."

"I dunno, I always thought of uncle dis as my own uncle. To me, you're just like a cousin…"

August looked shocked for a second before bursting out in laughter. "Eheheh, AHAHAHAHAHA! I see… cousins you're interesting. I want to stay here and talk with you but we need to enter the exam venue soon. The next time we meet will be at the exam ceremony, right? Let's do our best."

After that vahn and Shin went their separate ways to different written exam venues, after that was finished they went to the school trading area to show their magic.

Shin was already down with his turn, a big explosion happened with most people getting scared and the examiners outside calming them down.

Shin also came out and told vahn what had happened about the embarrassing chanting and what the explosion was.

Then it was vahns turn.

He was in the trading ground and he could see the burn marks from Shin's magic.

"All powerful water! Sweep away my enemies in a wave of water! Water shoot!" A person shot out a stream of water that hit the target but didn't do any damage.

"Pillars of earth impale my enemies with rock! Stone spike!" A small spike formed in front of the target barely touching it.

"Wind! Cut down my enemies! Wind blade!" A small blade of wind formed and did a little bit of damage to the target better than the other examinees who didn't do any damage.

After that it was vahns turn. But before he could go the examiner started talking. "I've heard about you from the kings, please do as least damage as possible, please."

Vahn turned to look at the examiner and she was practically begging him. "O-okay."

He walked up to his sport and was thinking about what to use. He didn't want to cause damage, but he wanted something to show he was powerful.

"Dios tukos." Vahn then swiped downward and then the target was destroyed by electricity. It created a cloud of smoke with electric sparks in it but it soon disappeared.

"Thank you, for not destroying the trading ground like your brother." The examiner said, while the examines were speechless.

"Y-yeah n-No p-problem."Vahn said.

*later that night*

In a meeting room for the magic exam results the teachers were talking about where to put each student while marking the exams.

"Were the magi's grandsons really that strong?"

"One of them intended to hold back his power and still destroyed half the facility and the other one has more self control with the attack only destroying the target and creating a cloud of smoke." The examiner from shin and vahns exam said. "Shin didn't chant for his attack, while vahn only said the spell name but that could just be for control as he seemed nervous."

"Could we even teach them anything? Maybe he should be the one who is teaching us…"

"His highness said that shin only wanted to come here to improve his social skills and possibly the same with vahn. So would it suffice to create a new research room, put a few people in there and teach them social skills." The examiner suggested.

"Good idea. That'll make things easier for us." One of them said.

"By the way how is the ranking?"

"We haven't finished but shin scored full points, with vahn only a few points behind."

"That means.."

"Yeah, it's decided he will be attending our school."

*a few days later, result announcement day*

In the wolford household melon, vahn and shin were at the door.

It then opened and in walked in the the king Diseum and his son august.

"Long time no see, shin, vahn." Diseum said.

"Good to see you, two." Merlin said.

"It's been a while uncle dis." Shin said while vahn just nodded.

And then august came up to the front and bowed to Merlin. "I believe this is the first time we met master merlin. I am very delighted to see a hero such as you on this fine day."

Merlin and August were talking for a while.

Eventually they were all leaving the house. "Let's go shin, vahn."

"Eh? You didn't bring an escort with you, aug?" Shin asked.

"If there's a better escort in this world than you two introduce me to him." August quipped back.

They were all walking down the path to the gate of the house when suddenly shin turned around to look at Merlin and Diseum who were walking with them.

Shin had to yell at them to go back. While the three of them were walking to get the results shin august talked but vahn didn't join in or maybe he was being ignored he didn't know.

All three of them made it in after checking for the results on the board. After that they went to collect their uniforms, shin was recognised straight away and vahn wasn't, the people here only care about the strongest.

The school uniform was enchanted with some defensive magic and stuff like that, and shin had the idea to upgrade his uniform, vahn also had the same idea but he wasn't sure what he could do with it.

Before we left the lady that gave them their uniforms spoke. "Mr. Wolford and his highness Prince august is placed in S class. And also… mr.wolford is to deliver the greeting speech on behalf of the new students in the entrance ceremony."

Shin tried to pass of the duty of that to august claiming because he was a prince he was better suited for it, but august said that it has been a tradition that the top scorer always gives a speech although it was obvious that he just wanted to see shin suffer.

After that they all went back to the wolford estate, shin told his grandparents how he had to give the speech and stuff like that and that they both passed and got into S class.
