Chapter 41: What Really Matters

Anneliese POV

Anneliese had seen paintings of Cyran in Sinsworth House. His parents, Landon and Flavia, had had a new family portrait painted every year until they died, and Garnet and Cyran kept up the tradition. Garnet kept all of them in a portrait gallery. The young Cyran looked a great deal like Patch did now with the blond hair, and he had some of that mischief in his eyes. The young Garnet looked a bit more serious, but Anneliese could see a hint of adventure in her eyes.

The Cyran that stood before her now looked less like the man with darkness in his eyes, the one twisted by someone else’s evil aims, and more like the boy in those portraits.

As she thought this, the scene around her changed to the portrait gallery in Sinsworth House. Cyran smiled, glancing around with nostalgia. “I remember sitting for all of these. I’m not so fond of the ones at the end.”
