Wildefell, New Moon City, and Red Crescent City were all very fine, but nothing held a candle to the orc capital Marienzen. Gawking up at the buildings that stretched into the clouds, Patch leaned a little too far out of the royal carriage before Anneliese pulled him back.

“Careful,” she said in a breathless voice, as wonderstruck as he was.

Patch sighed. “I’d love to run free, now that we can …”

Anneliese was enjoying this. “No. You’re a visiting envoy for real now. If Jiro and Dane can endure the pomp and splendor, you can.”

Patch sighed. “I know shifters don’t need carriages, but this is nice. The Crestas should have one for these trips when we have to pretend to be human. We could get Jiro, Garnet, and Kyon to design it.”
