TWO DAYS LATER
Yawning, Jiro sat by the lake with Garnet. It was getting a bit too chilly to stick their feet in the water, but they still enjoyed mornings by the water with their coffee after Roslynn’s Movements of the Moon Class.
“We can’t risk alerting Hades’ people,” Jiro said. “The witches are against that, and Dane and Kyon do, too.”
Garnet scowled. “I know, but to just send your brothers and Anneliese off to Nauru without alerting Makhel seems wrong … especially with the orc history, as you well know.”
Jiro gritted his teeth, hating when he didn’t know something critical. His curiosity proved to be even stronger than his irritation with himself. “What about the orc history?”
Garnet gave him a slightly superior look. “Humans occupied them for fifty years. It was well before Makhel’s time, and some military historians think that the occupation led to Makhel’s great-grandsire leading a revolt and gaining power.”
