His mouth normally had no difficulty operating, but he stood still on that walking trail under the stars. Anneliese could run back home at any time. He could shift out of these magnificent clothes and go for a run, though his wolf threatened to block him from changing.
He stared into her beautiful blue eyes. “Yes, I meant it. I probably shouldn’t have said it in front of everyone. Although I thought my feelings were etched on my face ever since we met.”
She just stood with the unicorn circling her legs and the dragon hovering and ready to scorch him. “I had no idea.”
“I must not have been as obvious as I thought. Or worse at flirting than Jiro. Maybe I should have written you a letter a day. But I think I was afraid.”
“Because of Lilia? Because I’m a witch?”
He snorted. “No to the second, and Dane is afraid of Lilia, so why wouldn’t I be?”
“She has a big soft spot for you.”
