Anneliese POV
“OUT OF THE QUESTION!”
The stern words from the Wildefell Witch Council leader Hyacinth Paine, the mother of Voynica Paine, made Anneliese gird her armor and unsheathe her wand for a battle royale.
Inside the main council chamber with its high vaulted ceiling, Councilwoman Paine, who had silver-colored antelope horns instead of Voynica’s black ones, sat at an oval-shaped marble table. Anneliese knew that both women belonged to the Tribe of Ammona, a group of witches descended from a common ancestor the way shifters were from Fenrir. The Ammonas’ claim to fame was their single-minded pursuit of knowledge and their zeal for ancient books and mysteries. Surely, if anyone should understand the need to solve the riddle of the Dark Goddess, it would be these women.
The frown Anneliese got did not bode well for any kind of understanding, much less approval of their mission.
