Magic battles, having a crystal shop in the family, and witches in the family should have prepared Dirge for the visit to witch headquarters. Instead, he felt like a newborn pup exploring the world again. He was eager to explore, but then Mrs. Chalice delivered the grim news, and he stood there confused for several moments, staring at the kindly woman through huge blue eyes.
“What do you mean, soul fragments?” he asked as they walked down the long, impressive stone corridors. “How can a soul be in pieces? You’re witches. You can put Tulaska’s soul back together, and Cyran’s. Can’t you?”
