Chapter 10: Romance at the Bloodstone
Anneliese POV
The newly painted blue door to the Bloodstone had never looked so appealing. Anneliese tried unlocking it with her brass key, but it wouldn’t budge.
“I forgot about the protective wards!” She raised her crystal wand and made an unlocking motion three times, frantically.
Peering over his shoulder, Patch scanned the street where the lamps were flickering as evening settled in. A handful of townspeople strolled about, including one fruit seller pushing her mostly empty cart past the Bloodstone and giving Anneliese a suspicious look. The woman shouted, “You there! Trying to rob a witch?”
Anneliese whirled, and the fruit seller stepped back, her puffy round face looking like a bread loaf that someone hadn’t completely baked. “Oh, Miss Chalice, I didn’t know it was you. Haven’t seen you in weeks! I hope you haven’t had any misfortune.”
