“Somebody needs to invent some sort of interdimensional cell phone. I’d feel much better if I could just call and check in.”

Gideon felt a little foolish then, thinking Jesse had been wasting all that time getting ready. Of course he had checked in on Michelle. He’d probably wanted to see how Dominique was doing, too. When the teenager had heard how badly Michelle had been hurt, she’d demanded to go. Previous hostilities aside, the girl had lost too many people already. Gideon didn’t blame her for the switch in attitude.

“How is Michelle doing?”

Jesse shrugged as he zipped his jacket over a black turtleneck. “Better. Good enough to yell at me for hopping back and forth between dimensions. Not good enough to come home, though.”

“She’s probably enjoying getting pampered by Grace. I’m sure that was half the reason Dominique was so hot to go along.”
