8. Austin

Forty-five minutes later, I started tapping my hands on the conference room table. I’m running out of patience and I want this whole meeting to be over. George is waiting for me at one of the VIP rooms here in the headquarters and I’m afraid that she might get bored or something. Besides, I see this whole meeting as bullshit anyway. The Smashers management is officially kicking me out at the end of the season so what’s the point right?

“We’re doing an official press release about the trade next week.” One of our PR’s said and I didn’t gave a damn on listening to it anymore. I want to get out of here immediately.

Few more minutes passed and we’re done.

I didn’t stick for long and mingled with the people on the room, instead I went straight to the room where George is waiting for me. Despite of my not-in-the-mood aura, thinking about the fact that I am seeing her today sends a bit of an excitement in my chest. This is really silly but the first time I saw her realizing that she was my wife, I felt real happiness for the first time. It’s even beyond the bliss that I felt every time I am on the ice, it’s completely surreal considering the fact that I don’t even know her.

I indeed acted like an idiot jerk in front of her when we first met, the time when I told her about not wanting to break the marriage. However, that was all just a joke and to make fun out of her. I may have a little crush on her. I’m just gonna say it, but I don’t want to be married myself yet. I’m totally not ready for that!

I head straight to the nearest room where Georgina awaits for me, as I open the door I was expecting her to come start nagging at me but thankfully she’s busy on her phone.

“Hey! Let’s go?” I mouthed, keeping my voice low. She lift a finger signaling me to wait.

“How come I didn’t know you’re already dating someone?” Jake, my manager suddenly appeared next to me looking at Georgina.

“I’m not dating her.” I said in complete honesty. But since I am fund of making fun out of her I dropped the wife-bomb again as she joins me and Jake on the door. “She’s my wife.”

“Your wife?” Jake echoed in complete shock.

“It’s a long story!” I quickly said. “Who was that?” I asked beaming at her.

“My Dad.” She answered. “Ready to go?”

“Sure.” I said and noticed that Jake haven’t leaved yet. “Oh! How rude of me. Georgina, this is Jake my manager. Jake this Georgina, my wife.”

She glared at me once again. “Stop telling people that I’m your wife Geiser, for goodness sake!” she hissed and extended her hands to my manager.

“Ignore him. Nice to meet you!”

“I don’t know what’s happening right now, but nice to meet you too. Should I call you Mrs. Geiser?” Jake said which made to snicker.

“A huge no.” She said plastering a huge smile. “I am Miss Georgina Rodriguez. But you can call me George.”

“George, right.” Jake echoed and secretly nudged me on my side. “Wife huh?”

“Whatever.” I just said dragging George with me. “Come on, let’s get out of here.”

Few moments later, we hop unto my car heading to my place.

“What place are you suggesting?” Georgina asked.

“My place.”

“What? No. We’re not going at your place. Pull over on the nearest restaurant we’ll talk in there.”

One thing that I noticed about her? She’s a little bit bossy.

“Are you sure? Because people on every streets here in Toronto recognizes me. So, you seriously want to talk about our marriage on a public place rather than on the private walls of my house?”

She was silent for a bit. Surely, she realized how stupid her idea was. I snickered.

“What are you laughing at?”

“Nothing.” I replied trying to hide my smile.

“What is it!?” She demanded.

“I was just wondering.” I started completely smiling this time. “Is the reason why you don’t want to go to my place right now is because I am so good looking that you don’t trust yourself around me?”

She fake laughed in complete exaggeration and glared at me, again. “So you have a bad grasp in understanding our situation right now and in reality.”

“You know, you’re really not a good wife.” I said. “You break your husband’s ego!”

“Tell that to your lawyer and we’ll use that in the trial court.” She replied busying herself on the phone again. “Seriously, we need those for us to void our marriage.”

She’s so determined on breaking this marriage. What is wrong with her? Everybody wants to be with me, why can’t she?

“You’re so eager to destroy our marriage!”

“Obviously.” She said rolling her eyes.

It stings a bit.

I haven’t been on a relationship that much ever since I take my hockey seriously. I’ve been travelling my whole life for hockey, indeed, I have a fun childhood and I had a pretty good memories growing up but it’s not likely the same with most people at my age.

All my life I am all focused on hockey and being in a relationship is the last of all my priorities. The last time I had a girlfriend was high school, she was my first love and the rest of that was just seldom one time hook ups.

When I found out that I have a wife, I was indeed shocked and horrified but when I saw Georgina I was strangely overwhelmed.

It’s fucking weird!

“So, my place.” I said not wanting further arguments.

“Fine.” She answered in complete retreat.

We arrived at my apartment few minutes later, as she enters my living room I am not going to lie I’m a bit embarrassed because the whole place is clearly all but messy. I’m a busy guy and I don’t have much time to clean up plus I’m a messy person, so there’s no win-win situation out here.

Besides, Audrey is not fund of cleaning all my mess unless I pay her five bucks. What a lazy bitch! Speaking of Audrey, she’s luckily not around. She texted me earlier that she’s currently on the job hunt, so I guess she won’t be home until tonight.

“Don’t you have a cleaning lady? Or some staff that you pay to clean up?” She asks as she looks at me picking up some of my shirts that is on the couch.

“I am not a fuck up.” I said throwing some of my clothes on the other couch.

“Oh you’re not? Because it clearly looks like you are.” She frankly said as she picks up some pillows on the floor and arranged it on the couch right before she seats and settles herself.

“Can I offer you a drink?”

“What do you got?”

I went to the kitchen and opened my fridge to look for any beverages available for her. “I have some diet coke, red bull, lager, water and a leftover hurchata.”

“Hurchata? Did you make it yourself?” She said and she suddenly emerged on the kitchen door and joined me as she grabs a chair on the breakfast counter. She looks like a five year old right now.

“My sister did.” I replied and poured her a glass because she clearly looks so enthusiastic when she heard Hurchata. “You like this drink?”

“Super! This is my favorite Mexican drink.” She replied and immediately accepted the glass I handed her. “This reminds me of my childhood actually. My nanny makes it for me all the time when I was a kid. She’s Mexican, so I grew up having Mexican dishes as a comfort food.”

“You have a nanny?” I asked.

She nodded as she sips on the beverage. “Mmm, this is so good. And yeah, I have a nanny growing up.”

“Wow.” I mouthed because at the end of the day I don’t know anything about this chick. “Are you some kind of a billionaire heiress?”

“Nope.” She said and the topic immediately changed to serious business right away. “So anyway, have you talked to your lawyers yet?”

I opened myself a bottle of lager right before answering. “Can we talk about that later? I want to know more about you.”

She sighed. “There’s no time for us to get to know each other here, we are separating so it’s better if we don’t know each other. It’s a great proof to void the marriage.”

“Girl, you might regret sooner or later that you’re breaking up with me.”

“I’m not breaking up on you, because we are not a couple in the first place.” She answered and sipped on the drink one more time I’m even shocked when she chugged it all up and asks for one more glass again.

“You know this has way too much sugar right?” I said giggling as I pour her the rest of the drink.

“Like I give a shit?” She said and accepted it. “Who made this again?”

“My sister.” I replied.

“Shit!” She exclaimed and the panic on her face takes over. “She’s living with you right now? Where is she? Does she know about our situation right now? What will you tell her—“

“Hey! Calm yourself down!” I demanded chuckling, this chick is way too paranoid. “She’s not here at the moment. She’s out looking for a job and won’t be home until tonight. And to answer one of your questions, she thinks you’re my girlfriend.”

“You told her about me?” She demanded. “How many times do I have to tell you to keep this as a secret?”

“I didn’t intentionally told her! She accidentally found out!”

“Like I believe you?”

“I’m telling the truth!” I defended. “Audrey is kind of nosy with my life and she went through my phone and saw your text messages.”

“Damn! I should probably stop from texting you from now on.” She mumbles.

“Don’t worry about it. I won’t tell her that we’re married.” I said and opened myself a can of beer. “But I’ll tell her that you’re excited to meet her.”

“I never said that!” She said pointing at me.

“Oh come on! Every girl wants to be introduced to the family members of her boyfriend.” I teased giving her a mocking grin.

“And you’re not my boyfriend either!” She countered and sighed. “Seriously Geiser, why are you doing this?”

“Doing what?”

“Mocking me, obviously.” She answered rolling her eyes. “Acting like you don’t have any problems with this type of situation and hitting on me every five seconds. Seriously, I don’t appreciate it! Just so you know.”

I just smiled on her because I totally get what she’s trying to say. I can’t help it, I just love teasing her and see her get annoyed at me but her cheeks still blushing.

“You’re annoying!” She said glaring at me when she noticed that I just smiled on her. “Why are you doing this?”

“Because I just love mocking you.” I answered.

She rolled her eyes again. “Seriously stop it! If you think this whole situation is a joke, then hate it to break it to you but it is not for me. I’m getting married, you know that right?”

I don’t. Fuck! She’s getting married? To who? Why?

I nodded my head a lot of times than necessary. “Of course, yeah! I know that.”

Crap! Lying isn’t good for my being right now. The revelation shocks my whole system about this. I thought she’s filing a divorce because she just plainly doesn’t want to get married on me and at this age. But knowing that she’s doing it because she’s bound to be married is some kind of a next level shit.

So even if I try something with her it will still fall into nothing because she’s marrying somebody else. Her situation, our situation is messed up indeed.
