A New Years Experience

Today is December 31'st. The last day of the year. Tunir had been preparing for this day for quite some time. He had saved up every last gold piece he could to ensure that today would go smoothly.

You see, Tunir was going to go on a date tonight.

He had prepared everything for this occasion. Tunir had combed his hair (despite the fact that it wouldn't change), brushed his teeth, and purchased a wonderfully tailored suit with all the money he had accumulated from a player. The player said that this suit was a "really rare drop" and sold it to Tunir for 10000 gold pieces. Of course, Tunir had plenty of money thanks to how many players would come to his shop on a daily basis.

Tunir hummed a short tune as he walked through the city. It was currently 9 P.M. The sun had already set and the city's lights had begun to glow. The atmosphere was pleasant.

As Tunir turned a corner to go down a certain street, a player approached him from behind.

"Excuse me, may I take your quest?" The player asked.

"Nope! I have a date tonight!" Tunir quickly responded.

A brown screen appeared in front of the player with the words "Quest Failed!" written on it. Tunir had prepared for this evening for too long. He was not about to let players ruin it for him!

A speech bubble appeared above the player.

"Ugh! I was so nice to him too! I'm gonna report this on the forums!"

Tunir paid the player and their moaning no mind as he continued to trot down the city street. He eventually arrived at the door to the person he was going to be spending his night with and knocked on it.

"Come in!" the person shouted out.

Tunir gently opened the door. His vision was filled with the sight of a rustic home. A small table with a white doily was sitting in the center of the room. To the left there was a set of wooden stairs. Despite the fact that the room was only lit by a single candle, Tunir could see the entire interior as if it was lit by bright sunlight.

A woman in a pristine red dress slowly descended from the stairs. Her face was lightly freckled and her skin was fair. Her dirty blonde hair went down to her shoulders and her smile lit up the already bright room.

"Ah, Tunir! Is it time?" She asked.

"Yes it is, Mary. If you need a moment I can wait!" Tunir happily replied.

"Alright the-" Mary began to reply, but before she could finish a player ran into the house and spoke to both of them.

"Ayy! Can I get both of your quests? I just got off work and I wanna grind a bit before my NYE party." The player loudly asked.

Tunir could feel a vein that was about to burst in his forehead. He had had enough of the players bothering him for now.

"No! Go away!" Tunir shouted before Mary could begin her explanation of the quest.

As per usual, the brown pop-up screen appeared in front of the player.

"Damn. Bummer." The speech bubble read above the player's head as they solemnly left the house.

Tunir took slow deep breaths as he regained his composure.

"I apologize for the rudeness of that one. It seems that we're both people that give out quests…" Tunir tried to laugh off the issue. He had the creeping feeling that this would not be the only time he would have to deal with this tonight.

"Well, I'm ready now so let's go!" Mary happily declared. Tunir was relieved that the prior issue did not bother her.

Tunir led Mary out of the house and walked her up to a carriage that was parked outside. He had spent a lot of money to get a carriage driver tonight, but it was worth it.

"Oh wow!" Mary gave a large smile as she approached the carriage. This is a luxury that few in this city would be able to experience, so this was a nice thing to have.

Once the two of them had entered the carriage and sat down, Mary asked Tunir a question.

"So, where are we going tonight?" She happily inquired.

"Tonight we spare no expense! We are going to be dining at the Adonita Von Garesa!" Tunir passionately declared.

Mary gasped at this declaration. A table at this restaurant would cost an incredible sum. What's more, to reserve a seat on this evening specifically spoke to the preparations that Tunir had gone through. He must have gotten ready for this evening months in advance.

"That's wonderful Tuni-" Mary was once again interrupted.

A player that was riding what appeared to be a gigantic hamster and was wearing raven black armor was neck and neck with the carriage. He loudly asked the inhabitants a question.

"Excuse me! Do you two have a quest I could take?" The player asked.

"N-No! Go away, you're spoiling the mood!" Tunir loudly shouted out of the carriage.

The player merely ceased following the two of them. No speech bubble appeared above them.

"My, they're persistent!" Tunir once again brushed off the issue.

"W-Well… Let's just get to the restaurant then." Mary suggested.

Soon, the carriage stopped in front of an extravagant venue. The white pristine road accompanied by the fountain and the clean steps leading up to the mahogany wood doorway gave a clear indication of fancy.

Tunir stepped out of the carriage and helped Mary out as well. Tunir was a gentleman after all!

"Welcome, honored guests. Allow me to show you to your table." A man dressed in a lavish suit said as he deeply bowed before Tunir and Mary.

The group followed the suited man to the balcony and were shown to one of the best tables in the restaurant. The interior was floored with luxurious red carpet. The ceiling held a multitude of incomprehensibly expensive chandeliers, and the tables were all set with expensive looking utensils.

As they were seated, the waiter approached.

"Good evening. May I start you with a drink?" The waiter asked.

Tunir had already prepared for this question, so he gave his answer immediately.

"We'll have the vintage." He replied.

"Splendid!" The waiter happily replied as he left to get their order.

"Tunir! That's incredibly expensive! Are you sure you can afford this?" Mary asked.

"Yes. I've made sure." Tunir replied. This was true. Tunir didn't want to admit it, but the players that were constantly buying from his shop had left him with an utterly insane amount of money. He could spend upwards of a million gold a day and not run out any time soon. Despite how much players frustrated him, they had their perks.

After a bit of time, the waiter returned with a bottle of an incredibly expensive wine. He poured the red drink into each of their glasses and gave a small bow as he stepped away slightly.

"Now, what would you two like to order?" The waiter happily asked.

"I don't want to break the bank…" Mary muttered.

"Nonsense! Tonight is my treat!" Tunir happily boasted.

Mary mulled over the thought for a moment before finally deciding to let go of her inhibitions and ordered one of the most expensive items on the menu.

Tunir also began to order, but he was interrupted.

"Excuse me, I heard you two have a quest I could have?"

"NO! GO AWAY!" Tunir screamed. He would not have his evening ruined by these cretins.

The player stamped off in response to this and the restaurant was encompassed by silence. Tunir grumbled as he got back into his seat and continued his order.

"V-Very good. I shall have those out soon." The waiter said as he walked away.

Tunir and Mary shared a moment to enjoy the incredibly expensive alcohol that they had. The flavor was incredibly well done. This was the peak of luxury. After a little while, their food came out. Two dragon steaks. A single dragon steak would cost a king's ransom. Two was next to unheard of..

Both Tunir and Mary ate their steaks without hesitation. These were once in a lifetime meals so they would never turn their noses up to this.

It didn't take long for both of them to finish their meal.

"Ah…" Both of them let out.

"Well Tunir, this has been a wonderful evening." Mary began.

"Yes, it has. I ask that you do one thing though before we leave."

"What's that?"

"Look out the balcony."

Mary followed Tunir's instructions. As Mary looked over, a multitude of fireworks went off. These were the new years fireworks that would go off at midnight on December 31st to usher in the new year.

"Oh… it's beautiful!" Mary happily declared.

Tunir paid for the meal and the pair left the restaurant in the carriage that they had arrived in.

"Thank you for the evening Tunir. It was wonderful." Mary happily declared.

"Think nothing of it. I was happy to bring in the new year with you!" Tunir replied.

"Hehe!" Mary laughed. She grabbed Tunir's head and turned it to the side as she gave him a peck on the cheek before she went inside of her home.

"Goodnight Tunir! Let's go on another date sometime!" She happily shouted as she closed the door.

The now blushing Tunir rubbed his cheek as he lazily looked at the now closed door.

"Hehe… she said another date sometime…"
