Trinity's Entrance [4]

The grass around Amelia wilted and receded back into the ground. However, she wasn't paying attention to this. Instead, she was staring at Eden, who was showing her the description of the genetic nexus she had acquired.

[Partially-Mutated Nostalgic Grass Hivemind]

["Once, a blade of grass that wanted nothing more than experience what it was like to see was exposed to the corruption one day. Even after being corrupted, it was still unable to do anything. Until it absorbs the blood of an infected person through the use of its roots.

It grew Slowly but steadily, as did its fellow lawn members. It became greedy. It tangled its roots with the others and directed the nutrients from the blood to its own body. It grew at a faster pace with this method.

Such actions caused it to be permanently linked with the others. It could feel its mind being spread over many. Whenever a creature stumbles upon its land, it kills and separates its body towards many of its "drones."

It continued this cycle. Each day, it would feel its personality shifting and being replaced to adapt to its sudden evolution. That was until one day, it met an adversary it could not overcome and absorb. During its last moments, it was granted the gift of sight for unknown reasons by a "certain" individual.

Its body, once a container for the malevolent energy, was then a vessel for a different energy of a limited amount."]

She skimmed over the description before scrutinising the appearance of the genetic nexus.

It was a casual and regular blade of grass you would find anywhere. It was dark green and was about a few centimetres long. She closed the panels and began to walk back after kneeling down and grabbing one of its elongated hairs to go.

She looked to the side to see the other lawn, which had also wilted. 'Everette must've finished before me.' She sighed in disappointment at her speed in eliminating her opponent.

Amelia made her way over to the bus to be met by the scene of Jack chasing after Everette.

"Come here, you!" Jack had his arms outstretched as he chased after him. Everette responded with a mocking laugh.

"Hahaha! You can't catch me!"

Amelia's attention then fell on Ada, who was just shaking her head with a smile as she watched the two playing around. Jack caught a glimpse of her in the corner of his eye.

He turned to her direction and ran to her. He brought her into his embrace.

"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Her face became a deep red before smiling. She shook her head.

"N-no, I'm fine. I was just a bit faster than it, so I was able to dodge some of its attacks." Jack sighed in relief before glaring back at Everette.

Everette, in response, just shrugged before responding: "You said we should trust in one another, right?" Jack heard this and sighed.

"You're right... I guess my emotions got the best of me for this one." Subsequently, after saying that, a hand fell onto his shoulder. He turned around to see it was Ada.

"You're not at fault. Anyone would be worried if their loved one is at risk of being hurt." She then gave Everette a short look before focusing back on Jack. Everette noticed this and just turned his face away with an embarrassed expression.

Jack smiled but still felt a bit guilty, "I guess you're right... But I was still in the wrong to get mad." He turned his gaze towards Amelia, who was still huddled up in his arms.

"I should've given her the same sort of trust I give to you guys - the one where I know you guys would be fine."

Amelia smiled and cupped his cheek, "It's fine, Jack." After saying that, she left his arms and stepped back before summoning her newly acquired Genetic nexus and presenting it to him.

"Here!" The group stared at the object in her hands with wide eyes, especially Jack. He moved both of his hands near hers before closing around it.

He shook his head before presenting a loving smile, "I want you to use it. You earned it, after all."

Amelia held a surprised look before blushing. The blade of grass in her hand disappeared. She gave a short nod before turning her face towards the ground.

After a few more moments, they finally made their way to the entrance. Ada was leading, followed by Everette and then the couple. She tried to push open the door but found out it was locked.

She sighed before gesturing for the others to back up a little. She summoned her flail again before spinning it around and launching it towards the door.

It broke through the door and caused it to splinter. A hole was left where it was struck. Ada approached forward before reaching in through the hole and unlocking it from the other side. After hearing a click, she gently pushed the door open.

Everette raised a brow at this, "Where'd you learn to do that?" Ada turned her head around to face him before smirking and responding with:

"Movies."

He was left baffled at her response. He placed the palm of his hand onto his face before laughing, 'I can't believe it worked.' Just after the door was a black metal fence gate.

Ada sighed before turning towards Everette. "Can you cut through the lock?" He shrugged and summoned his sword before injecting it with his mana.

It thrummed with mana and began to cut through the lock steadily, followed by a clinking sound. The lock fell to the ground, which resulted in a clanging noise.

Everette widened the gate and stepped through. The group entered into the university's grounds to find...
