"H-Huh? You want me to be the driver?" Patrick widened his eyes. He was currently full after having a plate full of the snake Everette killed.

She nodded, "Of course! Do you perhaps not want to?" She tilted her head with an amused look. He vigorously shook his head, "N-No, that's not it, it's just... Why me?"

He couldn't understand why he was picked out of all the others. 'Could it be at random?' He had that thought but realised there must be something more. He has seen Ada in action before and knows she always does things for a reason.

"Why...? Well... It's because you're pretty strong." She tilted her head side to side with her eyes closed with a thoughtful expression.

'Ah... So that's why. It is true that I have been able to adapt slightly faster than the rest, but is that all right?'

She then opened her eyes, "I also find you a bit amusing."

"H-Huh? Amusing?" Patrick was baffled by her reason. She chuckled, "Yup! That cane of yours—" She pointed her finger towards the side of her shirt.

"Is actually an imprint, right?" His eyes widened in shock, "How did you—?"

"Is it actually an imprint? I just said that as a joke." Her eyes were shown with playfulness. Patrick, for some reason, couldn't help but feel that she knew the whole time and was just making up an excuse.

He sighed and held out his cane before pulling it out a bit to see the blade. On the side of the blade near the hilt was his name etched into it; his eyes then began to lose their focus the longer he stared at the blade before wistfully falling back into his memories.

F-Finally! I was ecstatic about finally reaching the soldier stage.

"Hey, Patrick! You wanna celebrate with—"

"S-Sorry guys, I got to go home!"

I have to see her! My mind ran loops as I exited the Chapel. My heart was beating so fast out of fear. My eyes glimpsed upon the groups of Infected that had filled in the cleared-out area again.

My eyes narrowed as I unsheathed my cane, "GET OUT MY WAY!" I roared before butchering them all down. My blade embedded themselves into the skulls of many before having to be lodged out.

I left her alone for too long! My heart thumped the more time it took for me to reach her. My wife had a weak, frail body due to a car accident she had on her way to work. Because of that, I had to take on several jobs just to keep a steady income.

"Ugh..." I grunted as one of them bashed into me before countering with a thrust to the head. This carried on for a few moments, unfortunately.

I panted with bated breath after I slaughtered them all. Sweat covered my face, and some of my hair dangled and stuck on it. I briefly stared at my hands to see them stained with black and red stains before taking off - I didn't have any more time to dilly-daddle.

My home wasn't far, so I was able to get there within a quarter of an hour. It was a modest home. A home that we would live in when we are retired. The front had corpses of Infected humans piled high.

His eyes widened in both fear and anticipation. Was this her doing? I had to know, so I pushed open the door forcefully.

"ANNA!" My call rang out, but no response came. I then heard a soft, squelching sound echoing from within the house. I anxiously moved my legs.

I took short glances around my house to see stains covering it. The floor to the furniture and the ceiling were also covered in deep scratch marks. Blood dripping from the ceiling gave a foreboding feeling well up inside me.

These scratches sparked a realisation in me, The CAT! I quickly hurried my legs to the source of the squelching noise. I neared it to see a pool of blood run from inside the entrance to the kitchen.

MeEeOoOw...

A deep and distorted meow resounded from the kitchen; I peered into the kitchen to see... My wife being torn apart before being devoured. My once adorable black cat, now the size of a car, mercilessly devoured the person who took care of it for years.

My eyes shook. Overtake by rage, my hands moved on their own. I swung my cane at "my" cat. The hairs on the cat's back stood up. The cat swiftly turned its head around to reveal its face.

Its once lovable face was one of nightmares. Its teeth were tilted forward, and its eyes were also replaced with teeth. Its ears were also more prominent, like that of rabbits.

It swung its paw at me clumsily. I stepped back before being pounced on. "Ugh!" It snapped at me before being kicked off and slammed into a wall.

I quickly got up and dashed towards him. I swung my sword again, which caused a significant cut to appear on its abdomen.

*Third-Person POV* (Because I'm bad at first person)

Patrick's swing was the one to shed blood. He stepped back and watched as the cat writhed on the ground from the pain.

MeEeOoOw!

A deep and distorted mewl escaped from its mouth. It shakily got up to its feet before staying still. Patrick, still blinded by anger, swung again.

The cat's ears twitched. Patrick saw it react to his swing by stepping to the side before clawing at him. Its nails are about 2-3 inches long.

Patrick quickly brought his sword back to block the attack.

CLANG!

Sparks flew from the clash before the cat launched him back. He collided with his couch, which was covered in scratch marks. Even with the cushioning, the impact still knocked the wind out of him.

He took rapid breaths. The air in the house tasted like iron. It was a strong tase. Amidst him trying to catch his breath, he noticed the cat making its move before dodging again. The hairs on the cats stood before becoming limp. The once active cat then stayed perfectly still.

He landed on the ground and stared at it with vengeful eyes before getting up to his feet with tear-filled eyes. "I'm gonna tear out every single one of those teeth coming out of your mouth, Grim!" He roared in anguish.

His voice reverberated throughout the house. The hairs on the cat stood up, followed by a turn of the cat's head. Almost as if it could understand him, the cat's mouth widened into a toothy grin.

Its mouth, stained in blood, gave it the look that would shake the soul of many. Patrick, however, seeing the cat he has cared for and loved for so long turn on him and his wife has made him think nothing but taking away the life he has nurtured.
