CHAPTER 23 : ASSISTANT

"Bruh, they are literally out for your blood, hiring a f**king commander just to assassinate you," I said, raising my voice a little so that he could hear me CLEARLY.

At my words, he clenched his fists in frustration. After nearly a minute, he mumbled, almost whispering.

"Ok, you...help me get rid of him, I promise I'll....return the favour in the future."

"What did you say? I didn't hear you properly." I said, teasing him more.

'Huh," A sigh escaped his lips as he said. "Okay man, you win. Help me get rid of that bastard smith and in return, I'll.....do whatever you ask me to"

A smile formed on my face at his words, "I would love to help you with the Smith issue but you know it's...not a permanent solution, right?" I asked, and he knew what I was getting at.

His face became a little dull at my remark but he still answered, "I know but I'm just...too weak to cause any damage to them"

The atmosphere suddenly became a little depressing.

"Help me collect the information about that pink solution which is used to corrupt mana beasts and I will get rid of that smith guy for you. As for your revenge...if you are willing to become my assistant I might help you with that as well" I said.

Looking up at my face, he blinked his eyes a couple of times in surprise, trying to register what I just said.

After nearly half a minute, he asked in a doubtful tone, "Are you sure you can...do that? And even if you could. Why would you go to that length just for me?"

I looked up and met his eyes.

"Sure, I am not certain right now but I can tell you I will be able to soon without a doubt. And Asher, don't think that highbloods are some big shots as they are just some slightly larger insects in a bigger picture, If you agree to become my assistant, maybe in some years you might not even need my help to carry out your revenge." I said plainly.

After staring at me with a complicated expression for a couple of minutes, at last, Asher agreed to my proposal.

As a matter of fact, I didn't need his help if I just wanted to gain some information on the solution, as my post is superior to his, it would be far easier for me to do that myself. Asking him to do that was just for my own convenience and I also wanted him to believe that I keep my promises, and maybe get him to.....trust me a little.

In the past few months, I've noticed that my mental power and physical body enhancement cultivation has slowed down a lot, and will probably completely stop increasing after several months, hitting a bottleneck. Sure, doing the quill exercise I've been doing since my childhood might still increase the quality of the mental power but it won't have any effect on its quantity.

Light mana enhancement has proved to be

Very beneficial to my body, increasing its regeneration, muscle and bone density, the efficiency of organ systems and overall strength, but now...just like quill exercise...it has also become nearly ineffective.

I needed to find a different method if I wanted to improve them any further. And for that, I needed...umm...an assistant you can say as I can't just test everything on myself and if I were to do that on other people, I might need to tell them about mental power which is a no-no.

If it were just to use them as guinea pigs, there would have been no problem as there are many criminals and burdens in this world but I needed volunteers. So at last I came up with an idea.

Why don't I just hire an assistant? it would literally solve all my problems. I will have a person to test my hypothesis on, help in my research and even run some errands for me.

And what better candidate than Asher?

His abilities as a researcher are not bad. He has no family to hold him back, there are people out for his head. Then there is also his revenge which will always keep him motivated. Although it sounds like the guy is fu*ked but aside from his weird sense of humour, he is just perfect to be my assistant.

"I will help you investigate the pink solution in return for helping me get rid of Smith. As for becoming your assistant.....you have to tell me about what kind of work I'd be doing, then I'll tell you my answer after carefully considering it. And....Just to let you know I won't be fulfilling your gay fantasies if thats what you mean by becoming your assistant. Okay then, if that's all then I'm leaving." After leaving the last remark, he hurriedly left the room.

Looking at his leaving back, I snickered.
