Talented necromancer

In the world of Harcanos, there is a man who just recieved his class. One forbidden by those upstairs; a Necromancer. Beyern, no last name, will now use this class and his talent, long left buried, to catch up, and even surpass, those with a head-start, squeezing every drop of talent he can. ---- Talented necromancer is the story of Beyern, now please note, I did not say; ‘Beyern and friends’. This is about ‘Beyern’, and him alone, no matter if he has friends or slaves. The journey of Beyern is not over the flick of a switch, it’s not that one day he’s the loser on everyone’s mind, the next he’s the most powerful person to ever live. Basically; ‘This is progression fantasy, but with only a small pinch of litrpg’ -Due to irl time constraints, this novel is currently paused.

Wasted lies

Gripping his sword, Beyern had a neutral frown plastered on his face, he took a deep breath, looking at the battle field 'Just one more time, put a ball on a bird, and escape in the chaos.'

He exhaled, and then ran with all him might, channeling mana out of his circut, pulling it out of himself without any pause, a stream of mana made to orbit him.

The birds started to shift their heads, a few splitting off and comming at him instead of towards the camp.

The moment the birds got close, the built up ring was split into six parts, made into a spell individually, and then shot out towards the ones that choose to come.

And one of the flying mana-detectors dodged badly, and fell to the ground, well two actually, but only one mattered in this.

Beyern kept on channeling mana into his giant ring, running towards the fallen bird that was scrambling to stand up. But it's little bird brain couldn't comprehend a way to do so before Beyern had closed in.

He just put in the sword, evading a wing swung in an attempt at retaliation by stepping to the side, afterwards throwing inside the bird all of the mana he had gathered, attached it with an anchorage in rapid fashion, and then it was time to dip out of the precarious situation.

Beyern regained ownership of his sword with another pull, and then with a twirl, he turned to the camp and ran like his life depended on it, because it basically did.

If more than two birds came to kill him at one time, and if he didn't have enough mana to lead them estray, that would kill him.

So he crossed the line, and was quickly met with a sword to his neck "State your name."

"My name is Bey-" Beyern started to say, ready to put his scheme into action, a perfect lie, one that would put everyone off his back-

"Get off of the guy Hytir, I saw him working with one of the merchants, stop procrastinating and get to work or go sit in a corner!" A female voice called out from the makeshift wall.

The man clicked his tongue "Fine, leave some for me!" Resending his sword from Beyern's neck, and running towards where the necromancer had came from.

Beyern stood there for a moment, and blinked, taking a few looks around 'Huh? That's it?'

Deciding that, though annoying he had all that effort into making excuses and lies, mostly just to clean off traces of his heritage off the face of the world- And maybe just to mess with a few people too- had no use, it wasn't a particularly negative occurance.

And since he was apprarently given the go ahead to enter, he did so, with no worries showing. He looked around, quickly finding his specific merchant 'Friend', he even had his cart and everything.

"If not for orders, I would make sure you were cast out." He said while squeezing the bridge of their nose.

But Beyern just smiled "But you will do no such thing?" As if slightly taunting.

"...Yes." He said, looking as if wanting to spit in Beyern's face.

"Then it doesn't matter." Beyern said with the most amicable smile you could imagine, completely out of place, and jumped in the cart, and relaxed.

-----

"Good luck newbie," The spellsword with mana-concealment, Juliann, said "With your quick thinking, I'm sure the guild will accept you."

Beyern laughed slightly "Oh, stop it, you're inflating my head."

"And I'm sure your body will grow to equal it soon, good luck to you."

The two parted ways, the caravan having entered the city of Bacallu, there being no more conflict with monsters on the way, otherwise people wouldn't often make use of this route.

Right now he had some simple plans, first; Get at least one ring while walking around, and trying to find the mages' guild. Second; Enter the mages' guild.

And you'd be suprised by how easy it was to find the various guild branches, just asking one of the locals with a tap on the shoulder, and you got pointed towards it, and then there were the street signs for guilds close by too.

While he was doing so, he had taken out all of his bronze coins and kept them in a fist, and also focusing on the feel of the metal touching his hands, just a bit of caution against pickpockets or thieves.

With a ring finally in place, he strolled into the guild, not trying to be too noticeable, though some still took a quick look, not because of the new face, but the mana that was in use inside him, though quickly went back to what they were doing.

A good few paranoid mages kept healing magic or anything else that's protective on at all times, and he was thrown into that category.

He walked towards the front desk, there not seeming to be a line "Ah, hello."

"Hello sir, welcome to the mages' guild, is there something you need?" The receptionist, a young man, said with a amicable, though placid, tone.

Beyern though for a moment, and then said "I'd like to join the guild." Thinking of the lies he would need to spew, more like get redemption for the earlier wasted lies, to get in without anyone knowing about his class.

With the same placid tone, the man said "Then you'll need to touch an archetype sensor, is that alright?"

"Uh, yes." Beyern responded, he was expecting he would need to wriggle out of a 'Class sensor' instead, but an 'Archetype sensor' isn't a threat.

"Great, sir, please-" The receptionist took out a crystal out from below the desk "Put your hand on this."

Beyern's first instinct was to instantly not trust it, but then handily realized, that he couldn't make a lie to wriggle out of a mere archetype sensor. And... It's not like he's some super suspicious underworld criminal mastermind, he placed his hand on the crystaline structure, outwardly calm.

Though he was still suspicious, and secretly kept an eye on the receptionist' expression the moment the crystal glowed, nothing out of the ordinary "Yep, you're a mage, you can take your hand off the crystal now."

No signs of rejection, that either meant it was genuine, or they didn't care whether he was a necromancer or not. Both were fine to him, no big goal in mind that he needed his anonymity for.

"Congratulations for joining the mages' guild, is there anything else you might need?" Beyern was handed a small, copper, medal. Though he couldn't put his finger on it, he felt it was more special than just a piece of molded copper.

Beyern acted as if he was thinking for a moment "I remember someone saying that the mages' guild has a library available for any member?"

"Yes sir, just go down that hall, the behind the second door to the left is the novice library." Being signaled with the pointing of a finger, it was directed towards a hall.

"Thank you, that is all, have a pleasant day." Beyern found no need to waste time here, so he just left.

He walked silently towards said library, and he could easily open it, it wasn't even locked.

Looking apon the many rows of books, well, there weren't that many, but there were a bunch, maybe a hundred in total, Beyern couldn't help but thank old man Simmons for his help, still supporting him from behind the grave.

Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to read, and that's a big deal when you're in a library.

He started to walk along a bookcase, one of three, and quickly scanned for 'Masteries'.

'There, 'Basic magical masteries', by a... Ulysses? Strange name, cool.' He noted his thoughts quickly while taking out said miniscule panflet that took his interest.

He opened it and started to read it, inside, on each page, there was a mastery, it's description, and how to get it.

There were 9 pages, and that meant there were a total of 9 masteries he could gain.

He already had {Mana-manipulation}, {Mana-shaping} and {Spell-craft}.

That left six skills; {Arcane-manifestation}, {Aspect-attribution}, {Mental grimoire}, {Mana-packing}, {Telekinesis}, {Mana-infusion}.

Beyern recorded the pages into his mind, and started to think about the priority of learning the differing ;

'Alright, the easiest to pick up is {Mana-packing}, since that's gained by compressing mana with mental power- Or efficiently packing mana into a confined space, one of which being; 'Putting mana ontop of the mana, metaphorically'.

Then the next would be {Mana infusion}, since to gain it I have to put mana into an item, though I'm not certain how to do so.

Third easiest would be {Arcane-manifestation}, which is how one could let mana interact with the world without linkages, so that's an obvious number one priority. Though the way to get it would be a slight bit annoying.

Fourth would be... One of the leftover three, since I have no reference for how difficult it would be to get them. Though {Aspect attribution} is likely to be the easiest of the three due to support from [Necromancy].

Let's just put them into priority.

1; {Arcane-manifestation}. 2; {Mana-packing}. 3; {Aspect-attribution}. 4; {Mental grimoire}. 5; {Telekinesis}. 6; {Mana-infusion}.'

Beyern closed the 'Book', and thought to himself; 'It would be best if I got some herb-gathering job, and then a room at some inn too. After that I'll start training. Now, time waits for no non-chronomancer!'

And that's a rap on the two chapters, a bit of action after the hook of world building, and now I can go back to fleshing out the magic system and how the mages' guild works! Woohoo!
