(I wanted to make a chapter explaining Mc's relationship with Eve and her monsters before She's introduced in the oncoming chapter. So enjoy!)
I walked through the burned and desolate town that was once filled with people, now all that remained was the aftermath of another of Eve's children's abominable rampages.
This time it was the result of the Dragons, a barbaric and unruly tribe of creatures that were birthed from Eve. An apex predator second to the alphas, and were previously exiled to barren caves and faraway lands that no human could reach.
But now it seems that the dogs have finally bitten off their leash, and have now found entertainment by looting, killing, and capturing helpless humans to their caves.
I closed my eyes and focused my ears to search for any heartbeats from survivors, I heard the faint sounds of a beating heart and went to check it out.
I came to the body of a bloodied man whose skull was damaged, the man was in his mid-20s and was wearing silver armor.
I placed two fingers on the man's head, as a warm golden glow erupted from my fingers and healed all of the man's injures.
The man's eyes snapped open as he looked around, the man looked at his healed body and stared at me with astonishment and fear in his eyes.
"W-who are you? Are you a traveler? Some kind of angel from the heaven's? Perhaps some kind of witch since you healed me? The man look at me with distrustful eyes as he glanced warily at his sword.
"Peace, is that anyway to treat your savior? My name and identity are unimportant, I simply came here to find out what has happened to this ruined town." I conjured to two cups and poured some ginger ale for myself and the man.
"The man froze and looked down at the ground, he picked up the cup and took a long sip before recounting his story.
"This madness started three days ago, a young woman wearing rags came into the town and sat on the Palace steps." The man took another chug of his drink as I poured him another.
"The townspeople thought that she was some kind of beggar, we tried to give her food, water, some kind of way to try and make her trust and speak to us, but all she did was watch the caravan of supplies that came by." The man paused before his body began to shake uncontrollably.
"O-On t-the third day, that w-woman-no that monster shown her true c-colors, please! N-No more! I refuse to speak about this! Leave alone." The man started to recoil away from me and started to hyperventilate.
"Calm down. I commanded as my aura gave him a sense of calmness as he stopped shivering. "I understand that you don't want to remember that particular memory but I need that information." I placed two fingers on his forehead as I surfed through his memories to find the one I wanted.
The sounds of yelling and screaming could be heard, as people began to run away from a woman with glowing orange snake-like eyes.
A group of armored men circled around the woman, as they drew their swords and slowly inched closer to the woman.
The woman simply took a breath and exhaled a stream of fire, that incinerated the men and melted the silver swords with a defining roar.
One man managed to sneak behind the woman and attempted to stab her in the back, the sword broke on contact with her red scaly skin, as the woman picked up the man with one hand and threw the man at a cart of extravagant goods.
The man hit his head at the cart with such force that his vision began to dimmer, the last thing that the man saw before closing his eyes was a tall red dragon eating the people.
I removed my fingers and fix the damage done to the man's psyche after my forceful invasion and teleported him to the streets of France, a place where he will be well protected from any threats of the supernatural.
"You can come out now, you should know that your mystic arts won't work on me, Child of Eve." I turned my head to the space besides me as the air shifted.
Strong gusts of wind and the sound of crackling lighting could be heard, as a blue dragon appeared out of nowhere.
ROARRR! The sheer power of the Mutt's roar was so great, the ground began to tremble with fear as the sky darken to signal an oncoming storm.
The dragon looked at me and sniffed the air, before walking towards me with its head bowed in a sign of respect.
"You have some nerve dragon. I sneered. It was your kind that caused this mess in this town and various parts of the globe, give me one good reason why I shouldn't start my mission with you to mount the severed heads of your mongrel species off the face of the Earth." My entire body started to glow as I raised my hand, ready to smite the dragon unless he gave me a satisfactory answer.
"I greet the one who observes and the protector of humanity. My name is Hypolyes, a storm dragon that has come to ask for your help, the fate of the natural order and humanity depends on it." My light dimmed and I put my hand down as I nodded for him to continue listening.
"Long ago, after the birth of man, we Dragons were created and sent to the deepest and darkest portions of this planet, away from the children of mud to live in seclusion and harmony." The dragon took a breathe and exhaled as it's blue eyes glowed with the sound of rumbling thunder.
"For many centuries we lived in separated territories with no true leader, only the strongest members of our tribes protect us from outsiders. But soon, the last dragon that was created by the Great mother united us and created a civilization on the principle of strength." Hypolyes puffed his chest full of pride.
"Typical actions from an unintelligent race, this is what separates distinguished and noble beings like us, from wretched, inbred, filth, spawned from the dust like the maggot, animalistic monkeys that is in your nature." I spat at the dragon as sky raged in anger.
Hypolyes flared his nostrils as he immediately went into attack position, his entire body covered In lighting as he bared his teeth in a move to devour me.
I summoned my sword of light, ready to cut off the head of this insolent beast. Hypolyes paused as he covered a large gash on his side.
"You're lucky angel, if I was not already injured by my kin, I would have torched that body of yours to ash! My people are being led astray by a unworthy king and I need your help." Hypolyes laid on the ground as he looked at me with a pleading expression.
"We were living in harmony until recently, a dragon challenged the king for the Throne, the dragon cheated and began to destroy every trace of peace that we had." Hypolyes looked as if he was on the verge of crying as a tear was forming from his eye.
"Why should we stay confined in one space? Why should we follow the rules of a person who left us alone? We are the ones who are on the top of the food chain, why must we bow our head to humans!! The youngest and dumbest species on Earth. "The words of the new king rang throughout the ears of my kin, who now follow his rule and now ravage Earth."
"Hypolyes, all you have told me was the same words that I have heard throughout my entire life, why come to me if the end outcome will be the same? I started to levitate off the ground as Hypolyes watched me.
"I need your help to contact the Great Mother, she is the one who can resolve this issue and protect the natural order." My face darken at mention of Eve.
"Let me see if I understand correctly, you want me to help you find a way into purgatory to contact Eve, who will supposedly help you deal with the destructive Dragons." Hypolyes nodded his head and I refused.
"No, that's a dangerous game that you are playing Boy. If Eve escapes her post in purgatory, then humanity will be more in danger than the Dragons, the risk is too high for such a trivial matter." Hypolyes protested in trying to convince me that he needed to speak with Eve.
"Realistically speaking, this temporary alliance could minimize the risk that the dargons pose, but working with a spawn of Eve and by extension Eve herself, is nothing sort of unholy." I looked at the sky to see any Dragons nearby.
"Very well, I'll agree to work alongside you to go purgatory and Contact Eve, I am not doing this for you. I am simply trying to prevent humanity's progress from being setback by heaven's intervention." I touched Hypolyes and projected our consciousness to purgatory.
When I opened my eyes, we were in a forest filled with withering trees, I could feel the millions of hungry monster souls all around Purgatory.
I opened my wings and flew at high speeds to a giant lake, the prison of the Leviathans and where Eve was tasked to watch over them.
Eve was standing on a large platform made of rock, the water was covered in black goo from the constant secretion from the Leviathans.
We slowly dropped down at the rock platform, my wings retracting back to Ether as my instincts told me to manifest my spear, to protect myself from these venom-bitting creatures.
"Well this is a surprise, one of my children with the angel who butchered many of my children. Tell me, why are you here Isaiel and why shouldn't I kil you for the crimes against my children? The voice of Eve had a motherly tone, but there was unbridled hatred in her milky-white eyes.
"Great mother, we humbly ask for your assistance in combating this new threat and restore order, your draconic children have gone Rouge and have destroying the Earth with fire and blood." Hypolyes bowed his head to Eve as I observed the Leviathans who were circling aurond us like sharks.
"So that's why my children are being persecuted and killed, I had thought it was due to humans fighting back or Isaiel slaughtering them." Eve began to look back where a group of werewolves were feasting on a vampire's body.
"This is a serious problem, if my rebellious children are left unchecked, then my precious children will be on the verge of extinction. I will tell you how to kill my dragon children." Eve began to list off instructions on how to make a blade that will kill Dragons.
"Your truly are a good mother. Conspiring to kil them after they bit off your short leash, only now intervening because they are killing your other children on Earth. You could hear the Sarcasm in my words. "If your plan fails then I will gladly gouged out your sons and daughters eyes, or smite them horrific ways to slowly torture and kill them. Whatever hurts you in the most painful way possible." My voice was cold as i stabbed the head of a Leviathan coming up to the surface.
"My plan will work, your precious humans will be able to fight back and survive my children, but don't you dare threaten my children in front of me." Eve's eyes glowed orange and fire came from her palm.
"You know that can't hurt me, besides there are a reason that you remain here with your vile mutations, while I am revered throughout heaven and Earth due to my power." I opened my wings and left purgatory since we got the information that we needed.
"May I ask why you seek to earn The Great mother's ire? What is the reason why you hold such disdain for her and her offspring? Hypolyes asked me when we returned back to the physical realm.
"The reason? Long ago we angels made an mistake, a mistake that allowed your mother to leave her post resulting in the creation of her blasphemous children, and the living testament to my failure to protect humanity." My voice carried a tone if regret and then coldness.
"A part of me wants to exterminate, to cleanse the vile band of creatures hiding in the shadows of men, to make an example to all who carry the breath of life, to make our name associated with fear and terror to those who dare think to rebel, and to rectify the mistake and bring the world to it's intended path." My voice filed with a pious attitude.
"But another part of me wishes otherwise, none of these tortured souls choose this path. They too were once human, now forced to wander the earth as outcasts of civilization. I hear their prayers, you know. Praying for an end to their curse, and knowing that they don't have an afterlife. Just a place of senseless brutality and pain, a labyrinth with no end." My eyes started to water angels don't cry, they shouldn't cry.
Hypolyes didn't say a word. Perhaps he also knew what I felt, the two of us sat there for an hour until it was time to begin crafting.
"You know to make this sword, you will have to willingly die. Are you prepared for that? Hypolyes said nothing but he got closer.
"Yes, I'm already dying from the wounds sustained from my battle with my siblings, in order to protect our kind from alienation then I will do what has to be done." But can you listen to my requests? I nodded and swore that I would follow the requests.
"Can you promise to give this weapon to a worthy human, someone who would protect the innocent from any threat, and tell my wife and son, the reason that I did this was for our people." I nodded and without wasting time, I plunged my sword into his heart and watched him die.
After Hypolyes death, I collected his blood and bones to serve as materials for the sword, I went to a forge and worked on creating the dragon-slaying sword and enhancing its power.
When I was done the sword glowed and sparked lighting, the power of Hypolyes still alive within the sword.
I teleported back to France, where I found the man drinking by himself in a tavern. I sat down next to him and showed him the sword.
"You again, what do you want? I gave you all my information, I just want to drink my sorrows and die in some alley alone." The man looked at the sword and then back at me.
"Is this what you want? To die in some ditch and let the death of your friends go unavenge? To let thousands of innocents die at the hands of creatures like that dragon? The man slammed the table and stood up.
"No! He bellowed. I would do anything to protect the innocent, but what can one man do against creatures with such power? If I had the power to destroy them, then I would fight, and enlisted more men to follow me on this mission." I checked to see if the man was lying, but I could tell he was being honest.
"Then my good man, what If I tell you that sword can slay those foul beasts, and all you would have to do is create an order with the purpose of hunting the monsters in the dark." The man's eyes widened and touched the sword of Hypolyes.
"By God, I have never seen such a powerful sword in my life. You wish from me to create an order? Like the Templar knights of Jerusalem? The man listened to me attentively as I told him what to do.
"Yes, I need you to prepare. To form an order of men who will defend humanity from the supernatural, you and these men will be called Hunters, humans who wil Secure, Contain, and Protect humanity and the normalcy of this world from the monsters." I slowly showed visions about different supernatural creatures to the man to introduced him to the cause.
"This is so confusing and eye-opening. Secure...Contain...and..protect, this is the start of my oath? The man looked at me and grabbed the sword, marveled over the fine craft.
"Yes, those three words are your foundation, the source of your mission and the entire purpose of your order. Follow them and be uplifted, break them at your peril." The man's eyes burned with determination, not afraid of what he just learned about monsters.
"Secure means to find any monster, item, or artifact connected to the supernatural, to expel the foul evil spirits that possess men, and to break any spirit's hold on the soul of their victims." Explaining to him how to identify, expel, and kill demons without hurting their human hosts.
"Contain: to contain the monsters and shield humanity from their existence, and to shield them from any threats to their existence."
"And finally Protect, to use your resources to protect the supernatural from those who want to weaponlize or expose humanity to their existence, and to keep humanity safe above all." The man nodded and took a knee as to honor this creed.
"I will be staying in France for the time being, and I will help you build this order so that it can expand to England, Portugal, Scotland, and to every corner of this Earth. What do you say? I already knew that he would accept.
"I accept, but before we find men to start this secretive order of ours, what shall be its name? I smiled and the two of us began to walk out of the tavern.
"The name? Why, the name of this order will be called....The Men of Letters."
