Humans were quick to adapt to the situation as many people were rather happy than sad. Ever since people wrote about worlds filled with magic and creatures of fantasy they dreamed about it coming to reality, and this fulfilled their dreams.
Not only did the wildlife mutate so did humans, some more than others, which of course would make for a big divide between each other. Some didn't even mutate at all or the mutation was so negligible that it didn't even look like anything changed, these people were ridiculed by the people who did gain powers.
Although there were some humans who thought themselves as the protagonist of this story thinking that they would be invincible against the monsters but they were of course wrong. Some had the power to back this ridiculous claim up; they were few.
There were three different forms of powers that came from mutating, all with their own benefits but some with more than others. Firstly there was the growth type, and as its name indicates the people who had these kinds of abilities were able to continuously grow their power to an absurd point, these people were mostly seen as the ones with the most success later on in life. The only downside with these powers was that Talent played a huge role, for example someone could rise from B-rank to A-rank in a year with hard training but someone with more talent could do so in a month.
Then there were also the rich, these people had enough money to forcefully raise their own ranks by using rare and special materials but these kind of people were looked down upon by the people who earned their power through sheer effort and tribulations but with money comes corruption and power so no one voiced their displeasure against these kind of people. And because these people didn't "gain" their power "legitimately" they weren't seen as a legit form of power mutation.
The second one is the instantaneous type, the people who got this kind of power had a big power surge at the beginning but they would not be able to grow in strength without the use of external means, this did not mean that everyone who received this were strong, some would be stuck with a weak power for the rest of their lives. Although the people who received stronger abilities were for a short period of time the strongest and most respected once the growth types started finally figuring out their abilities they were quickly left behind in the dust.
The third and last one is the special type, these types are rare and fewer than the growth type as they could either be ridiculously strong with a power that is considered special but because there aren't many of these kinds of people not many know about them and are mostly seen as an instantaneous type. You could say that Osiris is one of them now but before his death he was an instantaneous type which was why his demise was at the hands of weak B-ranked monsters.
Although Osiris said his current power towers over his old one it could merely be seen as A-rank compared to his high B-rank he had previously, but now that he has this newfound power, training it should be the same as the growth type powers. And Osiris plans to take full advantage of this fact, while the world is busy drowning in chaos trying to fully stabilize and fight each other I will train to reach the apex so no one can threaten or make me run away like a coward with his tail between his legs.
At the moment there are a lot of people he has to stay clear of as of now, even though they won't be in their prime for some time. It is like the saying goes, A peasant can kill a king under good circumstances. (A/N : Not sure if I said it correctly but if not it is now.)
But he has to watch out for the militaries the most, since they probably all know about him now and would probably link his appearance as the first monster to the calamity. Osiris wasn't planning to end up the same as how the first monster that appeared did, being chained up and experimented on by some weird fogies dressed in white lab coats.
He was planning to prevent just that and everything else that might come his way.
Seeing how things are from a monster's POV Osiris did have some sort of regret about how he saw monsters in his past life. All they were trying to do was survive but humans were also trying to survive but they didn't want monsters to be alive to threaten them in the future even if humanity would easily fend them off if given enough time and resources.
Something Osiris is also afraid of is the future after he died, all he knows that his presence alone has changed a lot. Maybe after he died humans discovered a faster and more cruel way of exterminating monsters and that was something he wasn't looking forward to.
Suddenly an idea popped up in Osiris' mind, something he had completely ignored so far. Monsters as opposed to humans had longer lifespans, though humans could prolong theirs by using special herbs or parts of rare animals or by simply using their newfound mutated powers they had nothing in comparison to monsters. According to research that was made public before his death mutated animals, or monsters had lifespans that could last from two hundred years to thousands of years.
If I make it past that, what would I do? Humanity would've probably evolved to a point where they have left earth since that would probably be easier than restlessly trying to fight off an endless stream of monsters. This is something I want to figure out as soon as possible but not for now as I have things to do…
(End of chapter seven of "Sudden Monster")
I want to say that from now on the story starts becoming more action wise but it will most likely take a while before I actually want Osiris to start bothering with society.
