“Here,” she whispered. “Keep this with you at all times.”
Adam looked closely at the gold and white amulet that had a large eye in the center of an equilateral triangle with rays emanating from it. It seemed that the penetrating gaze was almost cutting into him. “What is it?”
“It’s the Eye of God. He sees all and will protect you from all evil.”
“I can almost feel the power.”
“Yes, it is powerful.”
“This is wonderful, Gracie. Both Phoenix and I thank you very much for your gift.”
“There. All settled,” she said, smiling. “By the way, I want to hear from you two regularly. More for Phoenix than for you. Not that I don’t care about you, but he is my son, after all. I’d like to know that he’s well and everything is fine.”
“I understand, and I’ll see that you’re kept updated.”
“Thanks,” she said, smiling as if she were relieved.
Just then Phoenix looked up from his donuts. “You two have been whispering ever since I sat down here. What’s going on?”
