"Yang! Come here! I want to show you something cool!" Ruby shouted from the second floor as soon as Yang entered the house. She had barely stepped inside when a cloud of red petals appeared before her.
"Geez Rubes, let me at least come inside…" Yang greeted her sister. "What is it?"
"Okay! Put one hand behind your back and I'll tell you how many fingers you are showing!" Ruby barely contained her enthusiasm.
Yang indulged her little sister and did as was told. As soon as she put her hand behind her back and outstretched two fingers she could feel something light and soft start enveloping her hand. It started with one barely noticeable contact on the back of her hand that slowly spread over her entire fist. It felt like she suddenly put on a glove made out of very thin silk.
"Two fingers!" Ruby exclaimed.
Yang already had a good idea what her sister was doing so she wasn't too surprised. "You figured that out just now?" She made her way to the fridge and took a can of soda. She may not be a sugar addict like Ruby but after three hours in the gym it felt well deserved.
Meanwhile Ruby was just gaping at her. "What do you mean 'figured out just now'?! Yang!"
"Remember the pig you shot?"
"You promised to never bring it up!"
"I promised not to mention it to new people." She shot back with a wink.
"That's a violation of the sister code!"
"Oh for the love of-"

Yang was laying on bed in her room, browsing through the available missions. The next school year would start soon so she wanted to have a last summer hooray before they were chained down in class. She also really wanted to take her beautiful bumblebee to the Vale countryside. She noticed a scent of roses in her room as a stream of petals was making its way inside her room through an opened window. Few moments later it solidified and-
"Did you find anything?" Ruby almost whined. They weren't on a hunt for close to two weeks now and she was getting really bored.
"Nope." Yang threw the black scroll to her sister. "The ones close enough are all meant to be done in a team. If 'Tai' goes alone, somebody might start asking questions."
"What about these ones?" Ruby opened a link to a search and destroy mission on the outskirts of Mt. Glenn.
"Too far away. He won't let us go camping this close before classes." She was bored too. Spars with Tai were good for her skills but she couldn't out her overpowered semblance in front of him and she can only spend so much time in a gym. "Don't you have anything else to do?"
Ruby mumbled something under her nose before speaking up. Not really… I'm done with the theoretical stuff and I have done what I could do…"
"Did you run out of money again? I barely spent anything of mine." She thought Qrow's drinking bill was bad but if Ruby spent all of her savings she would put it to shame.
"Nah, I actually can't spend anymore."
"Huh?"
"They won't sell me what I need!" Ruby went into a tirade. "'Military use only… stupid Atlas. I need special steel alloys but they won't let me buy them! And I don't have a proper Dust clearance so that's even more stonewalling… how am I supposed to make something great if nobody lets me!"
"Well, did you try using dad's ID to buy it?"
"What for? He has lower clearance than I do."
"Wait, what?"
"I am an official smith, Yang. So I can get away with buying a lot of military grade supplies. And he is not a dust mage so our dust clearance is the same."
Yang, involuntarily yawned. It seemed bureaucracy was even more boring than her usual classes. That earned her a halfhearted glare from Ruby but Yang just ruffled her hair, she looked way too cute when she tried to glare. At least she wasn't pouting or Yang might have tried to smother her with an overly affectionate hug.
"I'll be in my workshop, I'm working on some actual combat clothes. Call me if you need me." Ruby gruplily said her goodbye and slipped outside through the window.
Yang signed. Have to get her some cookies later or she will be grumpy for a week. She went to change into her outside clothes but then a better idea struck her. She decided to go in a more…expandable clothes, took the keys from her bike and was off to the Patch airbus port.
Flight to the capital was quick enough but it still gave Yang enough time to remember her uncle's lessons about information gathering. She went to the seedier part of the city and started hanging in the back of random bars. After she got an approximate location she found some messenger boy a year or two older than her and decided to have a chat. After a wink of red eyes when the guy didn't know whether he was aroused or scared he finally pointed her at the city's prominent information hub.
What are the odds, huh. If it wasn't for the neon sign she would mistake the place for a warehouse. What really got her attention was the familiar dress code of the bouncers near the entrance. She parked her bike right next to them and moved towards the doors. One of them tried to stop her but she just threw some lien and he made sure to stay out of her way. She could have just knocked him out but she needed their boss to be somewhat cooperative. Besides, she promised Ruby not to start any fights.
Junior was having a fairly normal day. His boys were making sure the flow of both money and information was going smoothly and that no new gangs would catch everyone by surprise. The shitshow with the Spiders almost caused the huntsmen corps to intervene and nobody wanted them here. He himself occasionally made deals with Ozpin and some of his men. Having them come down in force would be very bad for business. He had a close call recently when some of his idiots decided to make a small foothold in the Island of Patch and were promptly kicked out by just one Signal trainee. Thankfully no angry huntsman had come after him but he still had made the island a 'no-deal' zone. But apparently they just needed some time to get here. The description of the person who beat up his men stated that it was a blond girl, around fifteen, rather buff, a bit overdeveloped for her age and her eyes switched between lilac and red. Currently a seemingly fifteen year old blond with lilac eyes was making her way straight to the bar. She wore a rather plain black jacket, black pants, black sneakers and a white shirt under the jacket. Depending on what she wanted her appearance might spread around Vale quite fast, be it to stay awake or something else. He could see that some of his boys also recognized her and were getting jittery. He waved them to stand down lest his club become a battlefield. He would fight her himself if necessary, the girls were somewhere in the town and sending his auraless pushers would be meaningless. When the girl got close enough he greeted her first. "Yang Xiao Long."
She just smirked at him. "Oh, so your little friends told you what happened?" She said with corners of her mouth curved upwards. Then her expression shifted to completely neutral, perhaps slightly bored one. Her hair became shinier and blazing red eyes looked into his gray. "We have enough of our own dirt on Patch, I don't need your mongrels to bring more. Remember that." She sat down at the bar and dropped a decent stack of lien on the table. "Onto business then."
Junior tried not to show it but internally he just breathed a huge sigh of relief. If she was here for information then maybe everything would end peacefully. "What do you want?" But he couldn't just bow down to some brat.
Yang found his attempts at intimidation quite amusing and barely suppressed a chuckle. She replied with only a slightly condescending smile. "A burner scroll, contacts to whoever can get me high tech weaponry and quality dust and access to the mercenary mission board."
Junior looked at the money, it was slightly less than he would charge normally but his boys tried to invade her home so maybe she was just feeling petty. "Sure." he briefly walked behind the bar and then returned with a black scroll in hand. "You want only the general or something more specific, also you want the Valean board or internati-"
"Your job is to do, not to ask, stop wasting time." Red eyes glared at him. And why did it get warmer? Junior hurriedly uploaded the information from his own scroll and gave Yang the other one. She quickly checked the scroll and then put it into her pocket. She then pulled out another stack of lien and put it in front of Junior. She got up from her seat and started walking to the exit.
"What's with the generosity?" The girls just paid him more than triple the usual fee. He thought that she had some tough times and became a child merc but apparently she had money to spare.
Without faltering in her step she replied. "Aside from your babbling you did your job quickly and properly and it should be rewarded as such." A few moments later she left the building.

"Hey sis, I brought you something nice!" Yang said cheerfully as she entered the garage. Ruby was sitting on the floor fiddling with a helmet(?) of some sort. And of course she was way too absorbed into her work. Yang casually strolled through the place with her sister being none the wiser. When she was standing right above her she activated her semblance and focused on the tip of her finder. With a grin she placed the finger on the nape of Ruby's neck.
AAAAH!
WHOOSH
…
…
Crash
Standing in a now roofless garage Yang had at least the decency to look apologetic. Ruby was almost successful at giving Yang a death glare if it wasn't for the pouting and clutching her latest project protectively to her chest.
…
"I am your favorite sister, right?" Yang tried weakly.
"You meanie!"
Two hour later, the garage looked somewhat repaired. The roof was slightly misaligned but otherwise it was fine. Thankfully the roof didn't land on anything else so they didn't need to hide further evidence. Their father was at Signal, preparing the school for the upcoming year and would come home after sunset.
Right now Ruby was grumpily sitting on Yang's lap and was gorging herself on cookies. Therapeutically of course. In the meantime Yang was rubbing her shoulders despite doing the heavy lifting herself.
"Rubes… I'm really sorry. It was just a joke, I didn't know you would summon a tornado." Yang pleaded.
Ruby just grumbled something back.
"Hey, I know what will cheer you up!" She let go of Ruby's shoulders and pulled out a black scroll from her pocket. She leaned further into her sister's back and brought up the scroll in front of her.
"It's your special scroll, what of it." Ruby mumbled, giving it only a glance.
"Nope! This is Your special scroll. I've been to Vale and done some searching. I think I have a solution to your problem!" She proceeded to open the scroll and clicked the link Junior uploaded. A list of contacts opened up, each with a little comment box mentioning what they were selling.
"Yang… some of those things are illegal."
"And? It's not like you are going to buy them, you need the weapon parts and dust, right?"
"But Yang! There is slavery written in there!"
Yang memorized the name and clicked the list shut. Then she opened the mercenary hub and typed in the name. And of course there was both a bounty on his head from both Valean and Mistralian White Fang as well as a protection job for the man in question. Quite a bit of information on the spot and they promised more should they be interested.
"We can pay him a visit later if you want." Yang stated matter of factly.
"What was that?"
"Oh, that was the merc board. You know, the missions that are given out by people and companies and not just Huntsman corps. I thought we could find something nice to do there."
"Yang, that sounds very wrong…" Ruby hugged her jar of cookies tighter.
"Nah, it's fine. We will do the same thing, look! Here is a grimm purge mission from SDC. Huh? Can't they hire an official huntsman instead of a merc?" Yang wondered, SDC were definitely rich enough to do so.
"Only Huntsmen corps can issue an official mission and the priority is to protect the settlements. They are probably hiring like this because Ozpin denied the mission for a private company." Ruby explained almost mechanically.
"Eh, whatever, are we taking it or not? It's not that far away from civilization."
"I don't know… we are huntresses, we should protect people, not money."
"If that's your problem then think about this. They need the place cleaned up, probably for a mine or warehouse or whatever, meaning there will be people working there. If we clear the grimm now it will be safer for everyone." Please agree with me, I want to have some fun before going back to Signal!
"You are right!" Ruby exclaimed. Of course I am. "We will cleanse that place from darkness! I need to finish the helmets!" Ruby tried to jump off Yang's lap but misplaced her leg and fell off the bed. Mid fall she grabbed the blanket and dragged both the blanket and Yang down with her. Yang just affectionately signed, hoping that her sister might one day grow up. After a rather embarrassing fall Yang slowly looked around to reorient herself. Strangely, she couldn't see her sister. Zwei ran into the room and sat down directly in front of Yang.
"Hey boy, did you see Ruby recently?"
In that moment she felt light vibration from under her breasts, and a twitching leg poking out from under the blanket.
Help! Why are those things so big?! I can't breathe…

Author's notes
Forgot to add to the previous chapter
Dust classes:
A-class: freshly mined dust. There is a lot of it, it's cheap and it's overall garbage. Torchwick's lighter? Filled with A-class fire dust. Sales are somewhat monitored but no restrictions.
B-class: most used in the fic. Dust munition? B-class. Low power explosives? B-class. The person needs to be a military/huntsman or to be training to become one. Otherwise no restriction.
C-class: high quality combat dust. Winter and Weiss throwing around dust casting? C-class. Highly explosive missiles? C-class. The person needs to be a trained professional, have a signed permit from their CO and pass a dust proficiency test.
D-class: industrial usage. Bullhead fuel, heat etc
E-class: experimental usage, e-class refers to general experimentation. F-Z is still considered experimental but is more specialized toward whatever purpose the scientists are making it for.
Think about dust like a much more versatile oil and different classes being like diesel, kerosene, gasoline etc. There are also numbers added f.e. Fire C6. It means combat class fire dust that was six times refined. Goes from 1 to 10, with experimental classes going further. Unless I decide to bother with fantasy chemistry I won't make it more difficult.
