Volume 1 - Chapter 3: Initiation (2)

——————————————————————————————

The Vale Airship lands at Beacon Academy, and the future students of Beacon quickly leave the ship. Sora followed them absentmindedly outside.

The memories he received from the reward left him speechless. It made him realize he was nothing else but a fish going with the flows.

In his old world, he had a lovely family with his strict but kind father, his lovely mother and his baby little sister. He can't help but thinking about them. Many questions keep popping inside him.

'Will they be okay with me gone?' 'I hope they are fine' 'I wanted to see my baby sister grow up' 'This is so not fair'

Sora's depressing mood became even worse. He had nothing in this world. No one he could call mother, dad, sister, friends, and no goal in life.

As Sora's bad mood intensified, someone's hand landed on his shoulder and tried to wake him up. He came back to his sense and looked at the culprit. He looked at the person with a flash of recognition flashing through his eyes.

"Hey are you okay?" said the young woman as she looked at Sora with a worrying face.

"Ah, uh, yeah I'm okay now thank you, uh?" said Sora, as he looked at her with puzzlement.

"Ah? if you said so and my name is Tifa, Tifa Lockhart." said Tifa as she looked at Sora expectantly with a 'your turn now' gaze. Sora let out a sigh and introduced himself.

"Sora, Sora Light, nice to meet you Tifa." responded Sora as they walked toward the Beacon Academy's training arena, where all the other new students were waiting.

Tifa is a young woman with dark brown hair, which falls below her waist. She has brown eyes and an athletic build, with a slender but toned physique.

Her outfit is a leather suit with a white tank top under a black zip-up vest with black overhauled shorts that fold at the waist, forming an additional utility pocket at the front and a short duster at the back extending to her heels. She wears a pink ribbon around her left arm and wears a short red glove.

"So if you don't mind me asking, what happened to you?"

"...It's not something that I wish to share with someone I just met."

"Ah, sorry I should have expected that."

"No... it's okay, you were worried about me I guess?."

"Yup!" said Tifa as she nodded with a smile on her face.

"So..." said Sora as he wasn't sure how to proceed with her enthusiasm.

"Hmm?" hummed Tifa as she looked at Sora in wonder.

"I don't doubt of you worrying about me but I can't understand why you would still come to me.." said Sora as he looked at Tifa's eyes deeply. He didn't want to see a single lie from her, but the pure truth.

"My guts feelings." responded Tifa as she looked back at Sora in the eyes. He staggered to his feet, swaying a little, and looked at Tifa incredulously.

"..."

"G-g-guts feeling??"

"Yup!"

"H-how absurd." Sora couldn't find a single sign of lies in her eyes. It means she told him the truth. This is something he couldn't understand.

"Hmm? why would you say that?"

"I'm aware that my previous state gave a bad vibe around me."

"So how could a 'guts feeling' made you come to me..."

"My guts feeling is never wrong! I'm here alone for the first time outside my village."

"I wanted to make a friend at beacon and my guts feeling alerted me when I saw you alone."

"... So your guts told you that the gloomy boy with bad vibes would be a great friend?"

"Yup!" responded Tifa with a smile as she nodded franticly. Sora couldn't believe it. This is so random. Sora scoffed a bit and responded to Tifa's answer with his own.

"I'm won't be a great friend."

"I'll be the judge of that Sora." said Tifa as she laughed at Sora's answer, even ignoring Sora's glare.

"Hmph," Sora walked faster as he turned his face away to hide his small curved lips from Tifa's eyes. He could hear her laugh behind him as she tried to catch up with him.

It didn't take long for them to arrive at the training ground waiting for the next instruction.

They waited a bit as Tifa continued to talk to Sora, only getting some grunt as an answer. Ozpin steps onto the stage and gives his welcoming speech.

He states that all he sees in the students is wasted energy in need of purpose, which they believe knowledge will free them from. However, knowledge will only carry them so far, and it is up to them to take the first step.

After the speech, Glynda Goodwitch instructs the students to gather in the ballroom and prepare for tomorrow's initiation.

"What a speech as expected of the legendary Huntsman, what do you think Sora?" All he got was silence as she turned her head toward her new friend, who looked at the stage absentmindedly.

"Sora...?"

"Ah, sorry Tifa, I'm okay."

"I think his speech was short and blunt. Let's not waste time and go to the ballroom." said Sora with a strained smile. Tifa frowned as she saw Sora's obvious lies, but didn't dwell too much into it. Because she knew they weren't close friend yet.

"Well, if you say so but you can talk to me okay." said Tifa gently as she looked into Sora's eyes in which Sora maintained. She soon left Sora alone as she went toward the ballroom first. Sora looked at her figure slowly disappearing in the crowd not before looking back at the stage.

"In need of purpose... first step..." murmured Sora as he left the area toward the ballroom with a complicated expression.

Sora came out of the bathroom with his coat, gloves and boots off, with only his shirt and pants. He changed his boots into a pair of slippers. As he came out, he saw Tifa near the boys' bathroom entrance looking for someone with a crowd of boy trying to talk to her.

Her expression suddenly brighten up as she made her way outside the crowd toward Sora with a smile.

"Hehe, you made me waiting for you Sora."

"Ah, Tifa, good to see you, but why were you waiting for me"

"Of course I'm waiting for you dummy." said Tiffa as she took Sora's hand and led him toward a space while skillfully ignoring the jealous glare behind him. Sora looked around him and saw many people in this ballroom. As expected of Beacon Academy's strength to attract several people. He wonders how many would be left tomorrow.

From the little information found online, he heard that Beacon's initiation was very hard compared to the other academies around the world. After all, most students are greenhorns. Few people can get experience as they just came out of school, followed by a summer break.

"Hey what are you thinking about?" said Tifa as she lay down on her bed and looked at the standing Sora.

"Hmm?, nothing particularly important was just thinking how many of us would stay here." said Sora as he put his bed near Tifa and sat on it. He took a small book from his pocket and started reading it.

"Oh, is that so?" said Tifa as she looked at Sora's face as he read his book in silence.

"..."

*Stare*

*Stare*

*Sigh*

"What..." asked Sora with twitching eyebrows as he couldn't continue reading with Tifa intense stare. Tifa simply smiled and turned away, leaving Sora bewildered. As he tried to continue his book, Sora heard Tifa's voice.

"Good night, don't forget about the initiation so don't read too much, okay?" said Tifa with a tired voice as Sora simply glanced at her.

"..."

"Fine... good night Tifa." said Sora as he closed his book and lay down on his bed. Tifa smiled with her eyes closed at his response. At the same time, the lights in the ballrooms got turn off. Most of the people slept at the same moment.

All that can be heard inside was the snoring of some student and a calm silence.
