Volume 1 - Chapter 18: Field trip

"Alright, settle down, everyone, because today is a special day for everyone." Said Glynda as she entered the classroom filled with the first year.

Team DEEZ, NUTS and JSTA were present.

The student noticed Glynda wasn't alone as she was with another person.

They recognize the person. He is Bartholomew Oobleck.

Their history and legends of Remnant, professor at Beacon Academy.

"Hello, everyone, I guess my presence was unexpected? Haha," laughed Oobleck as he stood beside Glynda on the stage.

"I guess it must be about our fieldwork." Whispered Jean as she watched those two professors.

"Well, we'll know soon enough and looks like professor Goodwitch is going to explain." Said Sora as he watched their combat instructor pulling out her scroll.

Everyone in the classroom went silent as the projector made its appearance.

She pressed another button on her scroll as the light went out, leaving the projector the only source of light.

"Now, everyone must a heard about today from your senior or other source of information, but for those who don't know, we are going on a three-day trip outside of Beacon Academy." Said Glynda as she pulled out Remnant's world map in front of the class.

*Whisper* *Whisper* *Whisper* *Whisper*

"Settle down!" said Glynda as she noticed various reactions from her student.

"I know. It's only three weeks since everyone arrived at Beacon, but this is not the best huntsman at school in Remnant for anything! We are training everyone to be the best of the best. I hope this training field will motivate everyone to be a better huntsman or huntress, of course."

Her speeches calmed everyone as they shut their mouth.

"The goal of our training field is directly there. In this area, this place used to be a kingdom during before the Great War." Said Glynda as she showed everyone different angle of the ruined city.

"This ruined kingdom is infested with Grimms and this is Beacon Academy's duties to clean this area every year."

"Yes, classmate Vert? What is your question?" said Glynda as she pointed at Vergil, who lifted his hand.

"I would like to know, why is this place infested with Grimms every year? From your explanation, can I understand that the school uses this place as a training area for every freshman every year?" asked Vergil with doubt.

He never heard of a place that would swamped by many Grimms and every year, and Beacon would have to send students to clean them up.

This ruined kingdom must have a secret to attract Grimm every time.

"Ah, let me take care of this question, Glynda." Said Oobleck as he could answer Vergil's question.

"Please, Oobleck." Said Glynda as she gave her place to her colleague.

He is the best person with history and the nature of Grimm to some extant.

After all, he is a good friend of Peter Port, the professor in Grimm Studies at Beacon.

He picked up much knowledge from his colleague's usual rambles from all those years.

"This history of this city is actually very interesting." Said Oobleck as he drank his coffee.

"History? I don't understand, professor." Responded Vergil as he didn't understand the relation between this and his question.

"Don't worry, I'm coming at it. From my research and analyse, malice covered this ruined kingdom." Said Oobleck darkly.

Vergil frowned at Oobleck's mysterious statement but didn't cut him as he continued to listen.

"You must think, what do you mean by malice when there is no living being in this ruined city? Right?"

The students nodded, as they couldn't understand.

The general knowledge in Remnant is that Grimms are attracted to the negative emotion leaked by humanity.

"This is where I'm coming from! This kingdom has a very disturbing and sad history…." Said Oobleck as he cleaned his glasses with a sad expression.

"Let me give you a rundown, since I don't have the time to give everyone a full explanation. If you are interested in this story, you can come to my office during my free schedule or wait till your third year at Beacon."

"Now, where was I….? Ah yes! This city used to be a prosperous and major city before the Great War."

"This kingdom was the center of Remnant. The king that leads his people to success during his reign. The economy was blooming with its trade. The entertainment was at its peaks and many of today's piece came from this very city!"

"The military was unmatched under the lead of General Heinz as he protected the city and was very loyal to the king."

"The how could such a city falls?" asked a curious student.

"Unfortunately, it went downhill after the king died from old age and his only son, the prince, took the lead at ruling the kingdom." Said Oobleck as he shook his head.

"… Was the prince the cause of its fall?" asked Vergil from the clue the professor gave them.

"That's right, from the record that I found, many people blamed their newly crowned prince."

"He wasn't a good leader, as he only became the king because he was the crown prince. He was the type of person who wouldn't hesitate to use his status as a prince to get everything. He didn't bother ruling the kingdom and leaving them to his minister, fooling around with girls and getting wasted."

"He somehow calmed down after he got married to his wife by an arranged marriage from the duke. The prince loved his wife so much that he wouldn't hesitate to shower her with gifts."

"The prince would be under the queen's whims as she ordered him like a dog hungry for attention."

"What a simp...." murmured someone as many nodded in agreement.

"His wife died under the conspiracy of an enemy kingdom and the foolish prince didn't hesitate to plunge his kingdom into darkness to revive her and for how he did it? No one know… only the prince knows it." Said Oobleck with a terrible face.

"Wow, I've thought you could fit so many terrible qualities to a single person…" said Vergil with a complicated face.

"Indeed, mister Vert, to this day, the fall of the Kingdom Zestiria is one of Remnant mystery."

"The Kingdom of Zestria…" whispered Sora under his breath.

He was really interested in this kingdom. Well, more precisely, the foolish prince.

How could a waste of nothing find a method to revive his wife? Maybe a royal family secret? This kingdom is hiding a lot of secret…

"Now, this ruined kingdom is filled with malice from the prince and stained the ground. It became a forbidden area because of a large number of Grimms. Fortunately, with each year, the malice is getting thinner because of the time and the Grimms as they are absorbing it." Said Oobleck with a serious face, but he wasn't finished yet.

"This kingdom is basically the breeding place of many powerful Grimms and I won't be surprised if we find some mutated Grimms inside. This is our duty to kill all of them before they leave this place and attack villages near this ruined kingdom."

"…"

The atmosphere was heavy as they didn't expect their field training to be this important and the backstory behind it.

It stressed many students as they might encounter powerful Grimms.

Some people were interested in the ruined kingdom.

Everyone in this class knows it will be an eventful three-day trip.

"Ok, everyone, calm down. While this place is dangerous, there will be people coming with us during this trip. They will act as guardian and only move if a student is in danger, so don't expect them to move until then." Said Glynda as she forcibly calmed down the noisy classroom.

"We will depart tomorrow at 5AM. This ruined kingdom is pretty far from Beacon, so we need to leave early."

"There will be no more classes for today and every team should prepare themselves for this three days outing."

"If you have any more questions, please come at me and Doctor Oobleck. If not, class dismissed!"
